Joe, I would like to say that your feelings about drinking have been noted. But I would also like to say that I did say what has upset you so. It was the inspired word of God, the bible. So I guess you better take it up with the Him. Raven |

I never said regenerate. This is the culminating act of a contrite heart to accept the will of God and be obedient to that will. And if you had read my note I said that the water is not literally the blood. I know that water is just water, but it's what we are commanded to do. 1 Peter 3 21There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Mark 16 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. Notice the conjunction "and". There is no conversion in the new testement that shows a person that merly believes, without entering into that watery grave of baptisim, being saved. Jesus said this about those just believe. Matthew 7 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Jesus said if you hear what He says, its not enough but you must also do them. Matthew 7 24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: And Jesus said if you reject what He says you have rejected what God said. John 12 42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. 47And if anyone hears My words and does not believe,[1] I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. 49For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak." And Jesus said "He that believes and is baptized" In the book of Acts I have counted 9 different conversions and all of them include baptism. If you don't believe me read it for yourself. You see the problem with the religious world today is man wants to have his way. Liberalism is killing the church. But thats not Gods way. God wants us to be joined in like faith. 1 Cor 1:10 But everytime you put mans way against Gods way, man will have his way everytime. Man doesn't want Gods way, never has. But there has always been that reimnant like in Noahs day when 8 souls where saved. This might hit you hard but for the most part I don't give opinions, I just give scripture and you can believe it or not! And most don't believe it. Whens the last time you thought about how many different denominational churches there are? And then wonder was Christ church a denomination? Of course it wasn't! But man had his way, and now look theres a church for every kind religion you want. Any feel good measage you want to spread, theres a denomination that can accomidate. And if that one does't give you the warm an fuzzy feeling your looking for, then try another, theres hundreds. But its not Gods way. God said, Ephesians 4 4There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you[1] all. The body in this scripture is the church. Colossians 1 17And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. So it is with baptism. Mans way has perverted it, with sprinkling, pouring and dipping. No where in the bible does it say to be sprinkled, poured or dipped. But man had his way. And you said that you don't believe that baptism is essential. Then let me leave you with this parting scripture. Proverbs 28 26He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered. |

Its is because of the blood of Christ that we have any hope of being saved. We come in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism. Not literally blood, but this is the obedient step to salvation that is commanded of us after one repents and confesses Christ is the Son of God. Christ said that "he that belives and is baptised shall be saved, he that does not believe shall be damned. Mark 16:16. And Jesus also said, John 3 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Being born of water is just saying baptism. Besides the following scriptures read the book of Acts. Acts 2:37-47 is the perfect example of what must happen for a person to besaved. Acts 2 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation." Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Romans 6 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Galatians 3 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Hebrews 9 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 1 Peter 3 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. 1 John 1 7But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. And that is obedient faith, an acting faith, and a working faith. I am sure I have left something out but I you can see how one must be obedient to the Gospel and put on their savior in baptism and thus come in contact with the blood of Christ. Again the bible is clear in this manner, but its your choice , you can believe it or not. Raven |

Thank you for replying in such a positive way. And you are right Christians do not consider the thought of giving up alcohol. It is not even a factor. I used to drink a Magarita once or twice a year. And I never got drunk. And I also considered myself a good person with good morals who believed in God and in Jesus Christ as my savior. But I was not a Christian, and I knew it. But as of January 23, 2000 I obeyed they gospel and came in contact with the blood of Christ through baptism and became a Christian and have never looked back. Remember what happened to Lots wife when she looked back? A Christian doesn't have to look back because those sins are in the past and have been forgiven. And as 1John 1:7 says if we continue to walk in the light the blood of Christ cleanses us. There is no room for spliting hairs when it comes to the truth. Either you believe the bible and obey it or you don't. One of the most beautiful verses in the bible says Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Thanks again for writing and I hope we can agree again on another topic. Raven |

167 | What is 'the fruit of the vine'? | Matt 26:29 | RAVEN | 34653 | ||
Romans 14 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. The scripture Matt 11:1 that you use in defense proves only what others said about Jesus not what Jesus said about Himself. There were many other accusations made also that were untrue. Read again, it says "and they say". A line has been drawn in the sand and we as Christians should stay away from it and not even get close to it. When you say drink in moderation, how does this look to your other christian or non-christian friends. Suppose they see you do it and then they do it and have a problem with controling it. Then because of your actions you have caused someone to fall (sin). Matthew 18 Jesus Warns of Offenses * "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! The above scripture that says "little ones" is not refering to a child as we think of a child but it means children of God, for it says they believe. Its used the same way in 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Now back to the subject.... You have to accept that Jesus was pure and did nothing wrong and would never have contributed to the wrong doing of one of His followers. 1 Peter 2 "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; If you belive as you have stated that Jesus drank wine in its alcholic form then you have just blown the whole plan of salvation. Habakkuk 2 "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, Pressing him to your bottle, Even to make him drunk, That you may look on his nakedness! As I stated the last time the bible does not contradict itself. So therefore we cannot take the scriptures and twist them to fit the lifestyle we want. We must conform to it, not the other way around. 2 Timothy 3 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work |

I do not know where your information come from but this is what the bible says about it. Also for Jesus Christ to institute the Lords Supper and ask us to remember Him this way, your way would be calling the savior a drunk since the fruit of the vine is to represent His blood. Please read the following scriptures and remember the bible does not contridict itself and you should arive at an answer using only the bible. Proverbs 23 29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. 31Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; 32At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. 33Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. Luke 1 14And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. 16And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. |
