221 | The church as the pillar of Truth? | 1 Tim 3:15 | Praise Be To God | 137147
My understanding of these verses is as follows: Matthew 16:18. In these words, Christ promises to build His church on the truth of Peter's and the other disciples' confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus uses a play on words here. He calls His disciple "Peter", meaning a small stone, but goes on to say "upon this rock I will build my church," i.e. He will build His church on Peter's solid confession. It is Jesus Christ who is the Rock, the first and great foundation of the church. Peter states in his first letter that Jesus is the living stone . . . a chief corner stone . . . the stone which the builders disallowed. At the same time, Peter and all other Christians are living stones who become part of the structure of the spiritual house which God is building. Nowhere in Scripture is it stated that Peter would be the supreme and infallible authority above all other disciples. Nor is it stated that Peter should have infallible successors who would represent Christ and function as the official head of the church. Respectfully, Janae Whitlock |

222 | To whom should we pay tithes? | 1 Tim 5:17 | Praise Be To God | 149481
Heather, Malachi 3:10 says: "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Your church is the storehouse. You can present offerings above and beyond your tithe to other ministries, etc., after prayerful consideration, I would hope, but your tithe belongs to God and it should go into your own church. We rob God if we do not tithe. EVERYTHING IS HIS ANYWAY. He just wants to bless us and we tie His hands if we do not tithe. He wants to pour out His blessings upon His children. Tithing is a good sign of obedience to God. Janae |

224 | Discerning supernatural effects? | Heb 5:14 | Praise Be To God | 133060
I would say you need to look at who is doing it, or who it is done to. The Holy Spirit will be the one to tell us what is from God and what is not of God. But you must be walking in the Spirit and sensitive to the Spirit. Pray and ask God to give you the gift of discernment. The Holy Spirit will guide you. It is impossible to tell the difference if you are operating in the flesh. In fact, you are likely to be fooled if you are in the flesh. Matthew 24:24 "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." |

226 | who was the first of all prophets | Heb 11:5 | Praise Be To God | 147717
My vote is for Melchizedek: "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God." Genesis 14:18. And Abram gave him tithes of all. Janae |

227 | who was the first of all prophets | Heb 11:5 | Praise Be To God | 147734
Dear Kalos, Thank you for your response to my post. The reason I said Melchizedek is because Melchizedek is a type of Christ, and as we all know Jesus Christ is the greatest prophet. That was my thinking. Janae |

228 | Faith | James 1:2 | Praise Be To God | 159956
Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
229 | Faith | James 1:2 | Praise Be To God | 160015
What you have said is true and is one type of faith--believing faith. The Bible says God gave to every man a measure of faith. This measure is enough faith for every man to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The type of faith I am referring to when I quote "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God," is that faith which comes through many tests and trials, when all you have is God and all you have to sustain you is God's Word. You live every moment trusting that God will bring you through circumstances that look grim. But we do not look at the circumstances; we look at God. But God! That is the kind of faith that pleases God. He wants us to rely on no one else and nothing else but Him, and as you have so rightly quoted, without faith it is impossible to please God. Janae |

230 | Spiritual dilemma | James 5:9 | Praise Be To God | 133080
I was a member of the church where I was saved for 11-1/2 years, until I moved out of the area and changed churches. The original pastor retired and a new pastor was chosen. The person who was the new pastor of my old church was voted out after I left and I was not involved in the voting, although, I would have voted him out also. That pastor sometimes visits my new church and always gives me a big hug and is very friendly toward me. This does not sit well with my spirit, because I do not agree with a lot of his teachings and his ways (a lot of people felt he was a false prophet). My question is this: Should I continue to be friendly toward him, or should I avoid him, or should I let him know how I feel inside? We are commanded to love our neighbor, so I don't know what is right. I feel as if I am living a lie and I don't like that feeling, but maybe I need to put my feelings aside and show him love anyway? What is right?
231 | Spiritual dilemma | James 5:9 | Praise Be To God | 133128
You have both given me good advice. And I will continue to love my brother and to show him love, despite his mistakes. What angered me about him when he was preaching was that he put God down on man's level. He did not treat God with respect and his words were demeaning to God. I almost walked out several times, and perhaps I should have to get his attention that something was wrong. The church did split over this man, but it happened AFTER I left, so I was not involved (I thank God for that mercy!), and I have always been friendly toward him and he probably even thinks I would have been one to vote FOR him, in all honesty. That is why I felt I was betraying my own feelings to be so friendly to him, but God's command is to love one another, so that is what I have done, and will continue to do, as you have confirmed that I have been doing the right thing all along. Thank you for your kind help. Janae. |

232 | Spiritual dilemma | James 5:9 | Praise Be To God | 133220
Hi, Angel. My full maiden name is Janae DeLair, and it is French-Canadian. Thank you for asking. In regard to the topic, the Lord brought to mind the scripture about the tares: Matthew 13:30: Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." And also, last night, He gave me this scripture: Colossians 3:12-15: "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body, and be ye thankful." So, it is up to God to do the pruning. My job is to love my brother. Thank you for your insightful reply. I am sorry my post was off topic. I was hoping to get some insight from some very learned Christians. Love in Christ, Janae. |

236 | is the archangel bad? | Jude 1:9 | Praise Be To God | 140757
Michael and Gabriel are God's messengers. They even war in the heavens against Satan and his powers of darkness. (See Daniel 10:13 - "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.") Satan is an angel, and he is bad. But Michael is not. Janae |

Hi, BradK, My scripture was at the top of my note, and is also at the top of this note. Your scripture, plus verse 10, also, states that he descended:(Now that he ascended what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)" Since no body knows where hell is, what would you say the "lower parts" is referring to? Certainly, Paul was referring to hell. Janae |

240 | Can you tell me where was jesus for thos | Rev 1:18 | Praise Be To God | 144792
The tomb was above the ground. The Holy Spirit has told me that Paul was referring to hell. I did not say that Jesus went to hell to atone for our sins. His death on the cross did that. I merely said he went to hell. My intellect tells me that since Jesus took upon his body all the sins of the world, that he would have to go to hell, because that is what happens to the sinner (although, Jesus, himself, was spotless and sinless). He went to hell for us. He died for us, so we wouldn't have to. I don't know what happened while he was in hell, but I know that he won the victory, and the keys to death and hades. When we get to heaven all things will be made known to us. We will find out exactly what happened to Jesus during those three days. In the meantime, we have to listen to the Holy Spirit when He tells us things while we are reading the Holy Scriptures. He wrote them. He is the teacher. The Bible says we need no man to teach us these things, as the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. I can't make you see my point of view and I am not trying to. You are free to believe what you want to believe on this point. It will not affect your salvation. But, I do not want to argue about it. I think we should just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
