Do you have a personal opinion as to why the disciples hearts were hardened. Or, do you know of any good commentaries on this verse?
22 | Hardened Hearts??? | Mark 6:52 | Parousia | 63259
Thanks BobD for stating the obvious. The question is why? Why were they in this condition of mind and spirit?

Emmaus... I find your response very thoughtful and helpful. Thank you for taking the time to prepare an excellent study aid to this perplexing verse. Blessings! - Parousia

Emmaus... as I studied through your message further I am wondering if the reference to Matthew 1:16-17 is correct. You list it in the final sentence of the first paragraph of your response. I am having trouble making the connection with that verse. Thanks - Parousia

Emmaus... thanks... an excellent reference. One more thing... what translation are you using? - Parousia
26 | Hardened Hearts??? | Mark 6:52 | Parousia | 63294
Emmaus... thanks for the further clarification. I like your style. I do not own the NAB or the Jerusalem Bible and they don't seem to be very popular in Bible software. Do you personally believe the Apocrypha is part of the canon of Scripture? Do you use any commentaries? If so, which are a few of your favorites? Presently, I am enjoying the New Living Translation as a good dynamic equivalent commentary Bible. Blessings - Parousia

Emmaus... thanks for the information about your personal beliefs and some of your "resources". You sound like a very interesting person to me and one I enjoying talking with. You wear your faith well. I am a Free Will Baptist (Arminian vs. Calvin) and frankly know very little about the Catholic faith. I love the Lord and want to serve Him and I sense the same spirit in you. Thanks for being so generous with your time. Blessings - Parousia |

28 | Revival? | Romans | Parousia | 56023
What New Testament precedence do we use for "Revival" in our churches today? |
||||||
29 | Revival? | Romans | Parousia | 56030
justme: Frankly, I couldn't agree more. I raised the question because I have a good friend who is preaching on "Revival" and he has asked my opinion about an issue or two. I found that I feel like the church is applying the wrong word to an event, as valuable as it is, which is patterned to accomplish something else (generally evangelism). So far, you and I are the "choir". Thanks for sharing. Parousia |

30 | Revival? | Romans | Parousia | 56065
justme: I sing all parts equally well... if you get my drift. I love expositional teaching/preaching. I gain so much more from that than I seem to get from topical (there are exceptions of course). Free Will Baptist is my church affiliation, in Joplin, MO. We are neighbors, sort of. Frankly, it was a charismatic teacher who got me headed down the "study to show yourself approved" road. I love the Word of God and what it does to you when we surrender to it, apply it, believe it above all else. Do you have a translation preference? If stranded on an island I would ask for three... ESV, NLT and Amplified. Hope I don't scare you but I also love to read The Message by Eugene Peterson. Very dynamic!!! Choir is dismissed for now. Parousia |

31 | What is meant by walk by faith? | 2 Cor 5:7 | Parousia | 56039
For we know that if this earthly house of ours, that tent which is the body is pulled down, we have a building which comes from God, a house not made with hands, eternal and in the heavens. For indeed so long as we are as we are we earnestly long to put on our abode which is from heaven, and if indeed we have put it on we shall not be found naked. For, while we are in this tent of the body, we groan, for life weighs us down, for it is not so much that we desire to be stripped of this house, but rather that we desire to put on our heavenly body over it, so that that which is subject to death may be swallowed up by life. He who has designed us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a first instalment of the life to come. So then we are always in good heart, although we know that, while we sojourn here in the body, we are absent from the Lord--for it is by faith we walk and not by sight--but we are in good heart and we are willing rather to depart from the body and to stay with the Lord. So then it is our one ambition, whether we are present with him or absent from him, to be the kind of people in which he can find pleasure. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one of us may receive the consequences of the thing we did while we were in the body, consequences which will correspond to what each one of us has done, be it good or bad. —Barclay's Daily Study Bible
32 | Is smoking a sin? | 2 Pet 2:19 | Parousia | 56035
Lee-Roy "They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves to sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you." 2 Peter 2:19 NLT My experience with smoking is that it "controls" you. Once it comes between you and the Lord it certainly is a sin. I smoked for many years but when I finally asked the Lord to help me quit... and really meant it... He came through. Try Him! |
