Thanks Hank - Great answer. You wrote, "Genuine exegesis holds that the interpretation of any portion of Scripture that contradicts the clear teaching of any other portion or portions of Scripture is faulty interpretation." What should our attitude be toward those who engage in "faulty interpretation?" Of course, it could again be argued as to what constitudes "clear teaching?" (Now don't get your dander up; I'm not trying to be contrary or take aim here. I'm just wondering a bit.) Jesus Christ, crucified, buried and raised to life on the third day - literal day:-) is the Gospel that most on this Forum agree to. Yet, it seems to me that all to often, believers accuse those who disagree on denominational differences (which arise from "interpretive" conclusions)as heretics or even apostates. I am not suggesting tolerance of "any other gospel" yet I believe the response of the Church (as well as the individual believer) toward one another is just as important as it was centuries ago. Perhaps had we sought the hand of God rather than relied upon the hand of man, the world would be a different place . . . ah, but is that not what we have to look forward to?! Blessed Day. mommapbs |

Greetings RJJ "a conceptual and fanciful personification of the unknown causes of our misfortunes" I'ma bit confused here - are you asking a question about this phrase? Where did it come from? In what context is it written and who is the intended readership? To take a wild GUESS at what you might be looking for, I would say that this is the world's response to the devil,"a conceptual and fanciful personification," an oft blamed "cause our our misfortune", However, much as we might LIKE to lay blame at his feet, most of the causes of misfortunes are a result of sin and our choices. (This started it all, and we are still reaping the consequences of that first fatal choice to rebel against God! see also Romans 8:20-22) As a believer, sometimes the choices that I make, even God honoring ones, have consequences that are difficult to bear, BUT knowing that in the end, ALL things, even those that we can not imagine how, WILL work together for GOOD to those who love God and are called according to HIS purposes (Ro 8:28) - this gives me confidence and courage! Let's not forget - it's all about HIM! Clarify your post please! (I agree with your observations of some recent "family" problems!) Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings RJJ - do a NT word search on the word "hidden"! Frankly, the best way to explain the Gospel is to REVEAL your relationship with the Lord! Tell others who He is to you and what HE is doing in your life right now. It doesn't get any plainer or simpler that this! We don't need fancy or churchy words etiher! In fact, most folks don't understand our language (Christianese)! mommapbs |

fullofquestions: This is a BIBLE study site and it is sponsored by the Lockman Foundation which publishes the NASB. These words are reminescent of the King James Version old English, yet when I searched for this phrase, no verse was identified. Perhaps you are referring to the passage that says "He was numbered with transgressors" (Is. 53:12) Check this out. Where did you hear this phrase and in what context was it used? mommapbs |

47 | "tis thou a man amoungst thieves"? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101030
Greetings! Thanks for the explanation. Frankly, it sounds more like a line from a Shakesperean play to me! Bottom line is this. Read God's Word for yourself and allow God to reveal HIS truth to your heart. Don't worry if you don't understand something - no one has all the answers, we are all in process; we are all ever learning about God . . . I doubt that eternity will not be enough time to know all of Him! When you come across a passage of Scripture that you are struggling with, do look for some insight here at the Forum! I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help to you! Blessings, mommapbs |

48 | What is an Apostle? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101522
Greetings! Basically apostle means "sent one." My opinion is that according to the great comission - we, as believers, are all "sent ones!" However, this differs from the commonly accepted view of apostleship as an office designated by the Lord in 1 Cor 12. This topic has been discussed before. Use the "quick search" feature to review previous postings. Input the word apostle or apostleship for results. mommapbs |

52 | MARK 16:16: Was it perverted? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101590
Greetings arapaga! This subject - baptism - has been hotly debated on the Forum. I'm not sure if you are questioning the twisting of Scripture of the subject of baptism. There have been two view points offered: you believe and are saved or you believe, are baptized and are saved. Into which camp do you fall? Again, if you want to read how others have come to a conclusion on the subject of baptism and salvation, input the words "baptism and salvation" into the quick search field. mommapbs PS: I think that perversion is anytime we make God's Word say what WE want it to say! God does NOT need our help to communicate HIS Truth to our hearts! |

53 | MARK 16:16: Was it perverted? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101807
Greetings AO! Here are my 2 cents: Looking at 1 John 4, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that God loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. . . . everyone who loves has been born of God." (vv 10;7) It seems to me that apart from God, we can not love! Jesus said, IF you love Me, you will keep my commands (John 14:15) - Jesus told us "Love the Lord your God" . . . and HOW do we express that love? BELIEVE in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.(1 John 3:23) Love originates with God and those who do not love God have not BELIEVED Him. Belief comes first; it is the only response that God responds to. (Ecc 3:11)God has set eternity in the heart of man - we have God-given knowledge of His existence. In fact,(Romans 1) He even gives us that kernel of faith, the ability to recognize and respond to what HE HAS DONE - loved us first. Those who respond in belief, receive His Love,(Jesus, as noted in 1 John 4:10) which grows and continues to respond to God in our thoughts, attitudes and actions. I think that it is very dangerous to presume that there is anything we can do ON OUR OWN, like even loving God - for without Him, we would have no means to even respond to Him. To love means to believe - this is the starting point in our relationship with God. As we contine to place our trust in Him, HE lives through us, expressing Himself and His obedience to the Father. Jesus said, "apart from Me, you can do nothing." (John 15:5)Therefore, apart from HIM, we can not even OBEY God. We are saved by Grace, not works - which "obedience" apart from Jesus really is! You wrote, "most people would say it is unlikely a person will reach heaven if they do not love God." The problem is that most people do not know what loving God really means! They confuse "good works" with believing faith. Faith comes first, then we are born into that Love which expresses Itself through us. Eph 2:10 - "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God in advance has prepared for us to do." mommapbs |

54 | Purpose Driven Life? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101815
Greetings Norrie! I am currently participating in a small group study of "The Purpose Driven Life" - it is NOT used in our worship services. I also am going through this book with an accountability person in my life - so I'm exploring God's purposes for me times two. Frankly, I need more than one day to process each chapter! There is a lot of Truth to be digested here. Like you, I am bothered by Rick's use of multiple translations - I'd prefer that He stick with just one (I also would have liked the references provided IN the text rather than foot noted as I take notes and want to include where this Truth is found in God's Word). HOWEVER, I do believe that what Rick has presented is of significant value for the church. I agree, it is NOT a replacement for God's Word, nor should it be used in place of our own personal study of Scripture. This is a point that I repeatedly remind my group of when we meet each week. I believe that "The Purpose Driven Life" also offers some real practical advice to be incorporated into our daily lives. For example, the chapters on what temptation is and how to defeat it (27,28 I think) are excellent. For me, this study has been good, but like "The Prayer of Jabez", I believe it can become a tool of the devil to entice believers away from dependency upon God's Word for their spiritual food. I would encourage you to get into a group of believers with whom you can develop some intimacy and study God's Word in conjunction with this text. In my group, I usually use a passage of Scripture to illustrate and/or elaborate upon a point that Warren makes. I am sure to have each person bring a Bible and then we look up and respond to what we read. I hope this helps . . . perhaps you should "Give it a try, you might get blessed..." (!) mommapbs |

55 | MARK 16:16: Was it perverted? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101863
Hi AO - Jesus isn't Lord because we make Him so by our belief, He IS Lord whether we accept His Lordhip or not! God reveals Himself to mankind, we choose to know or not know Him through our belief. Because the demons already knew God as LORD, (they already believed) they are without excuse in their choice to rebell. I suspect that they shudder because they also know their ultimate eternal fate. (I suspect that this could be akin to the unpardonable sin that man is warned about.) mommapbs |

56 | Purpose Driven Life? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101865
Greetings Norrie - may I challenge you to submit yourself to the leaders that God has placed in authority over you whether you like what they have chosen or not? Your "protest" is akin to disobedience. Remember, your elder or shepherd is held accountable for you! ("Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you." Heb 13:7) With love for you IN Christ! mommapbs PS: See also 1 Peter 2:11-17 |

57 | Purpose Driven Life? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101882
Norrie, God gave you His Word and His Spirit to enable you to discern right from wrong. No where do we read that we are to obey "blindly". We are to submit to our overseers - but in an order that enables us to reject a teaching if it is not of God. Re-read 1 Peter 2:16-17. I was only challenging your reasoning for "protest"! The Purpose Driven Life is NOT a replacement for the Bible, but it is also not heresy! All I am encouraging you to do is examine your motives and your heart attitude toward the body that you fellowship in! mommapbs |

AO - Are you saying that anyone, for example a practicing homosexual, has committed the "unpardonable sin" because he/she willfully and repeatedly violates God's Law? How about the couple who willfuly live together without being married? Have they committed the "unpardonable sin" if they refuse to be married? How about the believer who struggles with pornography, knows it is sinful and yet refuses to give it up - has he/she committed the unpardonable sin? What about the church gossip? The one who refuses to tithe? If they refuse to repent of their sinful behavior and attitudes are these unpardonable too? mommapbs |

59 | The unpardonable sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101895
AO - You wrote. "Any of the situations you mention can be pardoned if the individual stops sinning, repents and from that time forward practises righteousness." This sounds like a works based plan of slavation to me! Is it? I fail to see how ANY of the situations I mentioned fall into the category of the "unpardonable sin". From your standpoint, the continual, unrepentent sins of homosexuality, pronography, and gossip are "unpardonable" but why did you exclude the sin of fornication? What about not giving,or tithing? Does the habitual practice of selfishness also become unpardonable? mommapbs |
