Greetings Pastor Glenn - thank you for your concern, it is a hard thing to understand. The "why" has become "what are You doing Lord?" Let's talk about the word glorify - to praise or give honor. (For me it is important to note that Jesus asks GOD to glorify Him - what should this suggest to us as we seek to be valued or esteemed?) see John 7:39 - for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (Is John speaking of the resurrection here? Is the resurrection the ultimate glorification of Jesus? Was He glorifed at His baptism? What about the Transfiguaration? Now I contrast this to Phil 2 -laying His glory aside did not make Him less Divine, but clearly (to me) demonstrates His awesome love to invade our low estate in order that we might be made to be like Him. What is the significance of the glorification of Jesus to us? (Sermon topic?) (See John 13:31-32; 17:1-10) Might it be important to clarify that the Holy Spirit was resident in Jesus as the God-Man? Reading John 7:39 might incline some to think that the Holy Spirit was not resident in Him - which would deny His Diety, imo. The death of Christ satisfied the wrath of God and provided a means for us to be "made new" - a Holy receptacle for the Holy Spirit to take up residence in us. (Isn't this part of "glorifying God in our body" when we rely upon His indwelling Spirit to will and to work as He pleases?) Let your Light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven . . . comes to mind here. Wasn't the resurrection of Christ the channel for the release of the Holy Spirit? - for which we should all be continually prasing and thanking God for this indesriblabel Gift of Himself!!! Thanks for any insight you might have. (It was a God thing for me to read your post, because these were the exact verses I was pondering this AM on "glorify.") Blessings, mommapbs |

2263 | How is Timothy an example of christlike | Phil 2:19 | Mommapbs | 136655
What did Timothy do that showed God at work in Him? (v 13) How did Timothy demonstrate "being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose?" In what ways did Timothy "do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind?" How did Timothy "regard others as more important than himself? In what ways did Timothy not "merely look out for his own personal interests, but also for the interests of others?" Phil 2:2-4 mommapbs |

2264 | Why are people like Timothy rare.... | Phil 2:20 | Mommapbs | 136653
Why do I think people like Timothy are so rare? (Phil 2:20) Self-centeredness rules. Even when we are "concerned" about others, our motives are often polluted. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Prov 23:7 mommapbs |

2265 | How is Christ's attitude evident.... | Phil 2:28 | Mommapbs | 136654
Read Phil 2:3-4. I'm sure you can see this in operation in these relationships. Tan Flipper, you have asked over 50 questions on this Forum - Bible Study homework does enter my mind here, and causes me to be concerned about you! In all this time, you told us nothing about yourself. Please complete the Update User Info under "Resources." As I look at this verse that you reference, I'm wondering why Paul was concerned for them? Perhaps you'd like to offer an answer for a change?! May God bless your questions and may you seek Him for more answers! mommapbs |

2266 | Why is it important to honor people.... | Phil 2:30 | Mommapbs | 136651
Is there any person we are to dishonor? We are told to love our neighbor,(Mt22:39) love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. We are to bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us (Lk 6:27-28) I'm wondering, how do you respond to the person who cuts you off on the highway? mommapbs |

At this time of year, we take inventory of the past and anticipate the future. What do you think the Lord wants us to forget and to reach for?

2269 | What is "this attitude?" | Phil 3:15 | Mommapbs | 93238
Greetings Ray - it is always good to hear from you! What wonderful things to contemplate - I like that word reasonableness - does it imply that we are to be "teachable" as well as tolerant of those who do not see things the way we do? I guess what prompts me to consider this passage is the critical spirit that creeps into our dialog on this site at times! Also upon reflection, I also see myself becoming critical and uncompassionate in my relationships with others! Oh to rely upon the mind of Christ and choosing to think His thoughts rather than to dwell on those things that profit us not! (see my discussion below about gaining Christ and things that are "gain to me") Just this weekend I heard Beth Moore challenge a group of women with this statement: "God does not call us to uniformity; He calls us to UNITY!" (emphasis, mine) There are many denominational differences represented on this Forum as well as in our relationships with others. At times, those differences surpass the cross of Christ which unites us. I like what you have written about the attitude that we SHOULD have: one of gentleness, a forbearing spirit and being of one mind in the Lord. How might we foster or encourage this attitude in one another? How does one "Gain Christ? - what do these verses (Phi 3:8 and 13) tell us is necessary? How do we determine what things to "leave behind?" (I think verse 7 gives the answer - whatever is "gain to me".) Why does Paul say that the loss of all things that were gain to him was a suffering? What characterizes things that are "gain to me?" Looking for your insight, mommapbs |

2270 | What is "this attitude?" | Phil 3:15 | Mommapbs | 93239
Greetings Searcher - Ray shared some comments and this scripture, "But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain **Christ,..." Philippians 3:7,8 Here are some more questions to consider: Please share your insight as well . . . (I wouldn't want you to get content or complacent now!) . . . :) How does one "Gain Christ? - what do these verses (Phi 3:8 and 13) tell us is necessary? How do we determine what things to "leave behind?" (I think verse 7 gives the answer - whatever is "gain to me".) Why does Paul say that the loss of all things that were gain to him was a suffering? 2272 | What is "this attitude?" | Phil 3:15 | Mommapbs | 93282
Absolutely EXCELLENT! Thank you for your contribution! Do you think that this - "God's purpose in all His dealings with us is to make us grow into something higher. The greatest calamity that can come to a soul is to be satisfied with its present condition." - might be the encouragement we need to give one another here as well? What would that look like as we interact with one another? mommapbs |

2273 | What is "this attitude?" | Phil 3:15 | Mommapbs | 93284
Greetings Searcher, Thank you again for your thoughtful response. Are we agreed that the claim of Jesus' finished work alone is sufficient to get us "into good standing with God.?" Some might think that we have to give up "heritage, homeletics, being a heroship and holiness" in order to gain God's approval and we already have that in Christ! As I contemplate this portion of Scripture, I see the necessity of revisiting the Cross more and more to remind me of the price that was paid and the Grace that was bestowed . . . and the promise that I have confidence in to be fulfilled in my life! Blessings to you and yours - mommapbs |

2274 | what are the differences in goals and | Phil 3:21 | Mommapbs | 137712
Greetings - as I read this passage it appears that Paul is possibly referring to his warning in v 2. These verses suggest that in our journey, we will encounter those who look religious because of what they "do" and yet they have no intimate relationship with the Lord - they are "enemies of the cross." Their goal is a righteousness based upon their "good works" and their desitiny is eternal separation from God. see Mt 7:15-23. Believers can look forward to the promise of v 21. (So can unbelievers, for they too will be subject to Him!) Blessings, mommapbs |

2275 | Is having a TV unbiblical? | Phil 4:8 | Mommapbs | 81112
Greetings! It isn't the TV that is "unbiblical" but all too often what is shown on it is! The issue here is WHO or what has priority in your life? Anything new or old can become an "idol"! Hope this helps - God bless you as you seek to know Him! mommapbs |

2276 | Searching for the truth | Phil 4:8 | Mommapbs | 84830
FytRobert - the converse of this verse would be to participate in the activities you have questioned, among many others that are also not edifying. Bottom line is this: when in doubt, if it does not bring glory to God - don't. Simple but effective! mommapbs |

2277 | just an explanation of these verses | Col 1:13 | Mommapbs | 86821
Greetings seeker 1! Welcome to the Forum. You can use the quick search feature to find many answers - input the words: kingdom keys In a previous post, Emmaus writes that the kingdom is eternal life with God. We become citizens of Christ's Kingdom when we accept Him as our personal Savior from the penalty of sin! We, as unconditionally loved and forgiven children of God, have this confident expectation of eternal life at the moment of conversion. Indeed we not only become part of God's family (John 1:12) and citizens of Christ's Kingdom but we have an inheritance waiting for us as well!Col 1:12; Heb 9:15 A key unlocks a door does it not? What then unlocks the door to eternal life with God? Jesus of course! Isn't it wonderful that He is not only the Door,(John 10:9) but He has given us the key (Himself) as well! May God bless you as you seek Him! mommapbs |

2278 | Do you have any biblical quotes? | Col 1:15 | Mommapbs | 104339
Greetings! As one who doesn't do her children's homework, I too am not inclided to do yours either, but I do feel led to offer some assistence! If you want to use only words spoken by Jesus when He walked on the earth, as you read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)on this site, all of Jesus' words are in RED. However, if you believe that Jesus is indeed God as He declares to us, then the WHOLE BIble is at your dsposal, for indeed man does not live by bread alone, but on every Word that proceedes from the mouth of God! (Mt 4:4) punishment/wrath cloning/life (read Psalm 139) What is Jesus attitude toward the lives of people? Why did He come? Note how Jesus interacted with women Music and art - "make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" Praise His name! - does our art and music do this? The Great Commandment addresses ALL we need to answer God's position on selfishness and greed. Persecution for beliefs - Jesus tells us that we will be persecuted for following Him! Use the "search" field to find Scriptures relating to these topics - my prayer is that God will bless you as YOU open HIS Word! In Christ, mommapbs |

2279 | once saved always saved? | Col 1:18 | Mommapbs | 31196
Greetings tottc! In Scripture, the church is called the body of believers. Christ is the "head" and each believer is a member of Christ's body, the church. Every believer has a specific function within the body - we all need one another! Using the Quick Search feature, enter the words: eternal security. You will find excellent answers to this question. Also, Read John 10. Hope this helps! Mommapbs |

2280 | Suffering for Christ's sake | Col 1:24 | Mommapbs | 45214
Greetings Cheryl, I just jumped into this thread and haven't had time to read every post. Wonder if you have considered 1 Peter 5:1-11 yet? I think that regardless of what KINDS of sufferings we experience, this passage is comforting. v 10 "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace (Who imparts all blessing and favor), Who has called you to His (own) eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen, and settle you."
