2241 | How can we be sure of eternal salvation? | Phil 1:6 | Mommapbs | 24004
Check out the notes on 1 John 5:13. This is the first verse that came to my mind after reading your question. BTW, it it the Spirit that draws, convicts and assures - not you! Leave this in GOd's capable Hands, He is leading and teaching this new believer in ways that we are ignorant of; for only God knows what his heart needs. In Jesus, Mommapbs
2242 | Preaching from envy and strife? | Phil 1:15 | Mommapbs | 86584
Greetings! If you keep reading vv12-21, you see that those who preach in this manner do so out of selfish ambition - their motves are not pure - (Are you looking for God's hand or what is in it?) this is distressing to Paul, who is already physically oppressed. Yet, as he contemplates this and realizes that he is powerless to DO anything about it, God evidently comforted him with this observation (v18) and he rejoices because Christ is proclaimed. Note also that this "rejoicing" is the genesis of emotional deliverance for Paul (v19)From this passage I would suggest that when we choose to focus on Christ and rejoice in Him, when combinded with prayer and the activity of the Holy Spirit, God does a work in our hearts to deliver us from spiritual oppression. I'm sure that you have come across preachers or other folks who use the Gospel for selfish gain, perhaps we need to take a lesson from Paul in our sttitude toward them. Let's let God be the judge. Something to think about . . . mommapbs |

2243 | Preaching from envy and strife? | Phil 1:15 | Mommapbs | 86588
I don't think that those who preached out of selfsih ambition sought to make Paul envious or cause him distress. I suspect that they sought personal attention - what preacher doesn't like an audience?!! Perhaps you are aware of churches that "compete" for saints? This is an example that comes to mind. Also, I don't think that Paul would respond the way he did if these preachers were not "brethern." He would have exposed any heresy. These are MY opinions, check out a study bible for more info. 2244 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | Mommapbs | 155650
Who are "your opponents?" In the prior verse we are instructed to be "standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;" The word "striving" indicates that there is a struggle, an opponent; can you identify yours? (For those of you who think you can "go it alone" in your walk as a believer in Jesus Christ - take note of the plurality here and especially of the word "together"!) |

2245 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | Mommapbs | 155708
Yes, prayon I'm asking if my sisters and brothers recognize how the opponent of our faith in Jesus Christ works in their lives? To see opposition as a "sign" of our salvation, echos Christ in Mt 5 that we are blessed when we are persecuted for His sake. Yet do we recognize opposition to our faith as such? I don't all the time. In fact, I find that it is more palatable to be "tolerant" or compromising rather than to stand firm . . . this is where the encouragement of other believers is so important! Also, when I am not sensing those opponents I need to ask myself if perhaps I am walking to close to them? Certain relationships, associations and activities; doubt, self-righteousness and pride all have the potential to become opponents to my faith - and they can be SO discouraging when I fall prey to them! Yes, we fight against a spiritual adversary, but he uses tools of opposition that I believe are important to recognize too, hence my question. So, do you recognize your opponents? |

2247 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | Mommapbs | 155733
Greetings lionheart - you have made an important observation: "there are a lot of individuals that expect that when one is saved all the problems go away." Indeed, there is a danger in complacency! This kind of thinking might also be considered an opponent of our faith, for as you have noted, it is contrary to Scripture. Blessings, mommapbs |

Welcome to the Forum. Please see this web site: kenosis.info - for an article written by Dan Musick. I have posted the author's conclusion below: Each of us is admonished, as was Timothy, to "study to show ourselves approved unto God, workmen that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15). The great crisis in conservative, Bible-based teaching comes from a failure to be taught, and a failure to study the core doctrines of the Christian faith. Infidelity to God's Word is also tempting - no less than is infidelity to a marriage partner. New "truths" entice the faithful, as do new illicit relationships. Heresy is no respecter of godliness. This web page has been established for three purposes: (1) To help those who have not studied the two natures of Christ to understand the proper Biblical view of His humility, (2) To provide resources for those who understand the proper Biblical view to defend it, and (3) To provide resources for advancing the truth in a Christian world of ignorance, misinformation, apathy, and heresy. Corresponding to the purposes you will find in these links information to understand, inspiration to defend, and motivation to advance the truth wherever God has placed you. As you read the articles and books attached to this site, please remember that truth is not conservative or liberal. There is sound doctrine and there are false teachers. There is the Gospel and there is another gospel. There are those who have given their necks - they have been beaten, fed to lions and exiled for the truths we take for granted; and there are those whom our Lord said would be better off in the bottom of the sea with a millstone around their necks. There are the pure in heart who see Jesus, and there are those who, while seeing, do not see Him. The broad range of links at this site underscores the reality that the issue of Christ's full Deity is basic to Biblical, orthodox thought throughout history. In studying and discovering our Lord's undiminished Deity, it is our prayer that you, too, will lose yourself in the glory of Christ's humility. Mommapbs |

2249 | explain Kenosis | Phil 2:7 | Mommapbs | 109493
Greetings Emmaus, this is something I have been pondering and after reading abit I can see how heresy may creep into our thinking. In verse 6 Paul states,"although He existed in the form of God," how can God exist in anything but His form? I see His existence summed up in "I AM". He TOOK the form of a bond-servant. This, to me anyway, does not mean that He changed His form of Existence. you posted: therefore taking on existence as God "in the form of a servant." Simplistically, when I am at home, I am a wife and a mother. When I am at school I am a teacher. Do I change who I am because of the roles I "take on?" Does this make sense? I believe that God WITH us, The Word made flesh support what Paul is saying here. The emptying,(because He "did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped"), was part of God's methodology for carrying out His plan to redeem mankind Himself. Well, these are just my thoughts for now. I do believe we are saying the same thing. Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Ray, thanks for your insight. You wrote: "He left the glory that was with the Father Himself." I'm wondering if the songwriter of "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" was addressing this element of our faith when he wrote: "veiled in flesh, the Godhead see, hail the Incarnate Deity." Did Jesus "leave" His glory or did God veil it in the flesh of humanity? Could the Transfiguration of Jesus be part of understanding His glory - the glory that He HAD (meaning, not past tense but what He possessed in essence)? I commend www.kenosis.info to you as a good discussion to consider more on this topic. The author lists some heretical views that can spring from an improper understanding. As I ponder this, I see that a proper understanding of WHO Jesus IS, must be a primary element for the believer. May we come to exclaim, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28) Blessings, mommapbs |

Yes, I had to re-visit it a few times and I will print it out and consider his Scriptural references myself as I haven't really thought about "kenosis" and its implications for our theology. I am always amazed to see so many differences in what we believe . . . Bless you for at least looking at that! mommapbs |

Greetings Ray, sorry for the delay in responding! I'm a bit perplexed about Rom 1:4, have to mull this over a bit . . . Spirit of holiness vs spirit of holiness? How does this change the meaning? Who can have a "spirit" of holiness? But I believe the use of spirit in 1 Cor 6:17 is appropriate as it is OUR spirit, linked with His Spirit . . . I also agree with Spirit is 1 Cor 12:11 as it is God who is at work in us. If we used "spirit" in this verse then "he" would reference us rather than God. Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

Hi Ray - it was good to get away for a while. Although I got a laptop for Christmas, I haven't had time to get it "wired" for travel! I like your observations about the body - indeed we are one spirit - in Christ, we are immersed in His Spirit, His righteousness and His holiness. Therefore, could we say that the spirit of righteousness and holiness is common to all who are in Him? IN Him! mommapbs |

Greetins Kalos - you wrote "That the Christ is the Son of God as well as Saviour and Redeemer is understood,it's a given among Christians in general" What does LORD mean to those "in heaven and on earth and under the earth,"(v10)? Revisiting Romans 10, how can one confess Jesus is Lord and not be forgiven? Is the unpardonable sin involved here? Blessing, mommapbs |
