2221 | Worthy of Honor but not of Respect | Eph 5:33 | Mommapbs | 65790
Greetings Joe - great observation! I agree, church discipline is sorely lacking in many arenas. I believe that if we took this aspect of our relationship with others in the body seriously, we would have far less discord in our midst. Frankly, I am not aware of any woman that I know in this situation taking her issues to the elders. Good suggestion for me to pass along as necessary. (Now, I wonder how the elders will respond to this? Accountability works both ways.) Right now I thank God that he has given me a Godly husband who takes his role as spiritual leader in our family very seriously! Thanks again for your note! mommapbs |

2222 | Is reverence feasible? Always? | Eph 5:33 | Mommapbs | 66066
Thank you Emmaus for such excellent Scriptures. Romans 7:4-6 tells us that we have died to Moses' teaching through Christ's body. . . we have died to those laws that bound us. God has broken their effect on us so that we are serving in a new spiritual way, not in the old way dictated by written words. Once again, perfect love casts out fear! Oh that all would be able to recieve the perfect love of God in Christ that sets us free from the law! This love comples us to seek the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. This is a beautiful picture of what is ours in Christ, the complete fulfillment of the law and a new way to come into the presence of God as the writer of Hebrews reminds us in Hebrews 10:10-23. Perhaps we should also look seriously at Hebrews 9:31-10:4. Comments? In Him, mommapbs |

rabbi mark - Greetings in Jesus Name. No where in my postings am I suggesting the New Age or nirvana concept that believers are "becoming one with God." There are those who share my interest in pursuing an intimate relationship with God that is through the Spirit; it does not do away with the law, but it is apart from the requirements of the Law. (References Romans 7:4-6 and Hebrews 10:20) It is my opinion that one who adopts an attitude of "performance Christianity" will truly miss what God intends for us to experience here and now, namely a relationship with Him that grows as we come to know Him more. Throughout God's Word, we are told to seek the Lord with our whole heart; to seek His face . . . As an illustration, I am copying an essay I wrote a while ago called "The Dance Partner." My husband is an accomplished dancer; in fact, he even won some competitions in his youth. Unfortunately for him, I have two left feet. It is always a challenge for him to make me “look good” on the dance floor. Yet, many failed dance lessons later, he hasn’t given up and he still loves to dance – with me! God is our ultimate Dance Partner. He never tires of teaching and I think He even delights when we step on His feet; for we can only step on Him when we are close! He loves to hold us next to His heart; in this way we can learn the beat, to step in time with Him. Like a daddy with his little girl, our Heavenly Father longs for us to place our feet upon His and let Him lead us across the floor of life. Yet all too often, we choose to flee from His embrace and invent a dance of our own. These attempts often yield many encounters with the floor rather than our Dance Partner. Patiently He waits for us; His dance card has our names on it . . . whose name is on yours? Do you hear the music? The Lord of the Dance is beckoning; can you see Him whirl you across the floor of time and space, holding you confidently in His arms? In time the music will cease and the lights will dim . . . the Lord will take your dancing shoes . . . for the dance is "well done!" Lord, thank you for the dance. As you lead me, I will follow . . . “You have turned my wailing into dancing and my sackcloth into clothes of joy." Psalm 30:11 The way that God draws me to Himself is very different from the way that you have come to know Him. Suffice it to say rabbi mark, we may share the same Dance Partner, but we are dancing to different tunes. According to Mt 15:13 we can take confidence in this: "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted." You may disagree with me, but please stop accusing me to the brethern. Your posts have offended and wounded me. If I have sinned, have you responded as God commands in Mt 18:15? If you struggled with my original post, why did you take out your disagreement to my post with another member of this Forum? Since you claim to study and know the Scriptures, it seems odd to me that you would have overlooked this principle of Godly conduct for the body of believers. If God has given you the spiritual gift of teaching, I will honor His gift, and I will honor you as one for whom Christ died, but you have not earned my admiration. mommapbs PS: I strongly recommend: "The Sacred Romance" and "The Journey of Desire" by JOHN Eldredge. |

2225 | Woman to change last name when married | Eph 5:33 | Mommapbs | 121873
Greetings - the use of a surname did not even come into common practice until after 1000 AD. The use of the husband's name is not a matter of law but rather tradition in some cultures. There is no Biblical mandate for this. If the husband feels strongly that his wife take his surname, then out of respect (love of course promts this!) she should honor her husband. Yet if the woman feels strongly about keeping her birth surname, her husband should honor her desire in the same way (prompted by love). I know different couples with the same last name, some with two different names and others who use both surnames. Frankly, this is a matter for the couple to decide and we as outsiders would do well to respect their wishes. Blessings, mommapbs |

2226 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | Mommapbs | 36257
In this passage (Ephesians 6:10-20) it is interesting to note that we are told to STAND (v 11,13) Also, as I look at this in light of Paul's charge to Timothy in 2 Tim 1:14, "Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you." It appears again that our posture is one of DEFENSE. Are there any commands in Scripture where believers are instructed to GO and fight offensively? |

2227 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | Mommapbs | 36271
Greetings EdB! I completely agree. Doesn't it seem that the devil would have us remain ignorant of these things?! As a side bar - how does one justify the "Crusades?" Was this any different from "jihad?" What should the response of the believer be in these times? You have reminded that we are quick to forget the real nature of the enemy. Thanks for the dialog and may God rain blessings on your day! Mommapbs |

2228 | 2 CORITHIANS 10 VS3-4-5 | Eph 6:13 | Mommapbs | 86269
Greetings! "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh," v3 Although we are physical beings, our struggle is not - it is spiritual. The battleground is our mind. Who and what we believe will determine our responses to what we experience in life. (As a man thinks in his heart, so is he! Pr 23:7) Our actions reflect what we believe, not what we know! Because there is a difference between knowing and believing, it is important for our minds to be conformed to the Truth, rather than to the deceptions of the evil one. As we come to know the Truth, we learn to recognize falsehood. But until we choose to believe the Truth, our actions will be subject to false thinking. These are the "fortressess" or stongholds that hold us captive and keep our behaviors from reflecting the Truth of God that is within us as believers. "for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses." v4 Because this is a spiritual battle, we need Divine power to demolish these anad the Lord has given us two offensive weapons to fight with - the Sword of the Spirit, His Word, and prayer. Note Eph 6:17-18 that both are empowered by the Spirit! This is an important passage and deserves much more than I have given here. 2229 | i need a little more information | Eph 6:14 | Mommapbs | 118934
Greetings, I'm not quite sure what you are after in this verse but the message is to the BELIEVER - the one who has already received the Truth and wears the righteousness of Christ - to STAND FIRM. You KNOW the Truth, now ACT on it; live your live on THIS foundation. I refer you to Luke 6:46-49. Notice that the one who comes to Christ, hears what He says and obeys His Word is able to withstand any assault the world hurls against it. People will not die for something they are not convinced is absolutely true. Are you willing to die for what you believe? Has this helped? Blessings, mommapbs |

2230 | Weilding the Sword of the Spirit | Eph 6:17 | Mommapbs | 36199
After the apostle Paul lists the armor of God, he identifies an offensive weapon offered to the believer - the SWORD. In this passage, the SWORD is identified as The Word of God. Note that it belongs to the Spirit; we are told to take it. In 2 Tim 2:15, Timothy is told to "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." From these Scriptures, is it reasonable to suggest that the accurate handling God's Word requires us to rely upon the Holy Spirit (His power) to wield it? Other Scriptures I have been considering while thinking on these things are: 1 Cor 2:9-16; 2 Tim 1:14 Comments? |

2231 | A form of godliness -denying its power? | Eph 6:17 | Mommapbs | 36214
Greetings Emmaus! You asked:"So why can't we wield the sword of the indwelling Spirit, the word of God or perhaps the Spiirt wield the sword of the word through us?"We can when we are yielded to Him. But - Is it possible to use God's Word, without the power of the Spirit behind it?

AMEN! Great word picture!
2233 | The privilege of "handling the Word!" | Eph 6:17 | Mommapbs | 36258
RE: Ephesians 6:10-20 from these Scriptures, it appears that the common denominator is the SPIRIT - It is the Spirit that empowers (v 10); we are told to take up the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT (v 17) and we are told to pray IN THE SPIRIT (v 18). What does this suggest to the believer - how does or should this affect our daily walk? Note also the Satan uses the Word of God (the temptation of Eve, the temptation od Christ)- but in his hands it is not the SWORD of the SPIRIT! Perhaps we need to examine what our motives are when WE use God's Word? "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;so that the man of God may be equipped for every good work." Are we abusing God's Word when we do not endeavor to use it according to HIS purposes as outlined in this verse? Compare the exhortation in 2 Tim 2:15 "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." Again, we see the importance of using God's word correctly. This has been "food for thought" to me . . . it seems good to "share it!" Mommapbs |

2234 | Explain Hebrew 4:12 | Eph 6:17 | Mommapbs | 120380
Greetings mrsrock! If you input Heb 4:12 in the Questions/Notes on Verse field (upper left in the green bar) you can read what others have posted on this verse. In reading Hebrews 4:12 I am reminded of Eph 6:17. When we look at what the Lord has given to us in Eph 6 - the offensive weapon we have is the "sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God." Who wields this sword? The Spirit. As we read God's Word, the believer receives its benefits - intstruction, correction, reproof and training in righteousness(2 Tim 3:16). It is my opinion that Hebrews 4:12 can also be understood as a means by which God may convict the world of sin. (John 16:7-11)The thoughts and intentions of the heart can only be judged by God. (1 Sam 16:7) Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Ray - there is quite a debate over the heart and thought - does the heart perceive? Science seems to be heading twoard supporting this - and yet we have God's (w) Word telling us that this is so. (NKJ) The battle is for our heart - it is waged in the thought-life. For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Pr 23:7 That's all for now! Bless you Ray! mommapbs |

2240 | purpose of church anniversary | Phil 1:3 | Mommapbs | 129711
Greetings - there is no Biblical mandate to observe "church anniversarys" yet I suspect that when believers gather together to celebrate their union it is a way to express our gratitude to God for making this possible. See also 1 Peter 2:9 and Malachi 3:16. Blessings, mommapbs |
