21 | Anointing?? | 1 John 2:27 | Lissamz | 147021
Hello Saints, I already read the previous postings on this verse and still have a question that was debatable in the context the remarks were made. Simply put, I know that all believers are anointed by God (2 Cor. 1:21), that abides in us (the Holy Spirit), but is there also another such anointing in the case of "spiritual gifts." Such as, a brother being 'anointed' with the gift of discernment or a sister being 'anointed' with the gift of prophecy? Thanks Saints, Lissa |

23 | Still a little cloudy for me... | Heb 5:14 | Lissamz | 146943
Thanks for the input Searcher56, I am still a little cloudy about whether testing the spirits (1 Jn 4:1) is actually connected to discernment (referring to Heb. 5:14). Hmmm, I guess I would ask if spiritual discernment comes forth from testing the spirits?? (Looking forward to an answer, please respond as soon as you can!) hidden in Christ, Lissa |

25 | Discerning Christians? | Heb 5:14 | Lissamz | 146884
Thanks for your 3 cents (see more than 2!!). I think you are right to say that seeking the Lord is the first and foremost need, before judging what is not plain and blatantly in front of our faces. I just think that humans many times judge based on experience and personal motives, rather than in the context of godly understanding, then wisdom. So, again, you are right, seeking His face and applying His will to our lives is always the perfect way to approach the situation. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

26 | Was this passage fulfilled B4 Christ? | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146881
Greetings Doc, Sure I'll expand..."Personally speaking to believers" I define as such. (I'm using myself as an example :-) God spoke to me a couple of weeks ago through a portion of Judges 6:26 "...build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold in an orderly manner." This was actually more of a command, now that I think about it, but continuing...There were some issues in my immediate family, that I was being tempted to fall into (complaining and grumbling to be specific), but through this passage the Lord showed me that He wanted me to build an altar of sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise in my mind and in front of my family members, instead of falling into line with them. Now, for promises that personally speak to believers as a whole...(whew, there are so many), but one of my favorites is 2 Thess. 2:13 "But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth." And I don't think that this promise can be 'explained or interpreted' any other way other than the way it is presented in the Word. And, more so even, the command to "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." (Gal. 5:16) is just that- a COMMAND, no personal interpretation needed. And personal application is simple, with no needed "frillys"- Walk by the Spirit. I believe strongly that reading Scripture is one thing- Applying it in our lives is a totally different ballpark. Heb. 2:4 in the NIV says "For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith." |

27 | Discerning Christians? | Heb 5:14 | Lissamz | 146880
Hello Saints, "...senses trained to discern good and evil." I have heard of 'mature Christians', being able to discern the 'spirit' of other 'individuals' that say that they are Christians, but 'supposedly' are not, because they 'feel' or have a certain 'knowledge' (not physical proof of any kind) that the 'individual' is not of the same spirit in the Lord. There are a lot of quotations, because I have wondered about this being true or not. I will be praying about this subject, but would also like to know if there is any Biblical support for this other than the above portion of this verse and Gal. 5:17. Thanks Saints...God bless and shine His countenance upon you all. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

28 | Trying to find verse about dying young. | Eccl 7:13 | Lissamz | 146878
Hello Saint, Maybe this is what you are looking for? If not, I hope you find it or someone else can help you with your search. Wonderful Resurrection Day to you, too. He is alive forevermore!! "Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future. In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these: a righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness." -Ecc. 7:13-15 |

Question: "How do I know which of God's promises are for me?" Answer: To frame this question another way, “How can one tell the difference between general promises and specific promises?” A general promise is one that is given by the Holy Spirit to every believer in every age. When the author penned the promise, he set no limitation on time period or recipient. An example of a general promise is 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This promise is based on the forgiving nature of God and is available to all believers, everywhere. Another example of a general promise is Philippians 4:9, “The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This promise is made to all believers who, refusing to worry, bring their requests to God (verse 8). Other examples of general promises include Psalm 1:3; 27:10; 31:24; John 4:13-14 (note the word whosoever); and Revelation 3:20. A specific promise is one that is made to specific individuals on specific occasions. The context of the promise will usually make it clear who is the intended recipient. For example, the promise of 1 Kings 9:5 is very specific: “I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel forever.” The preceding verses make it clear that the Lord is speaking only to Solomon. Luke 2:35 is another specific promise: “A sword shall pierce through thy own soul also.” This prophecy/promise was directed to Mary and was fulfilled in her lifetime. While a specific promise is not made to all believers generally, the Holy Spirit can still use a specific promise to guide or encourage any of His children. For example, the promise of Isaiah 54:10 was written with Israel in mind, but the Holy Spirit has used these words to comfort many Christians today: “My kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of My peace be removed.” As he was led to take the gospel to the Gentiles, the Apostle Paul claimed the promise of Isaiah 42:6-7: “I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth” (see Acts 13:47). Isaiah’s promise was originally meant for the Messiah, but in it Paul found guidance from the Lord for his own life. When claiming a promise from scripture, keep the following principles in mind: 1) Promises are often conditional. Look for the word if in the context. 2) God gives us promises to help us better accomplish His will. A promise does not make God bend to our will. 3) Do not assume to know when, where, or how the promise will be fulfilled in your life. -taken directly from GotQuestions.org God may use any promises "in a spiritual sense" to personally speak to believers personally, in their personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. You cannot "in general" confirm or dismiss a(ny) promises that another receives from the Word of God. That's why we have a PERSONAL relationship with the LORD. Also, I was not speaking necessarily about every 'specific' promise in the OT as being fulfilled by Jesus, but to the OT seen in it's entirety. The OT, overall, points us to Christ Jesus. I hope I cleared up any misunderstanding and made my point perfectly clear. |

30 | Hmmm...Self-Examination | Prov 17:14 | Lissamz | 146868
Hmmm Saints, Seems to me that discussion is far and few inbetween on this website at times (actually, to be truthful, a lot of times). Proverbs 17:14 "The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts." Proverbs 20:3 "It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel." Ahhh, and a one more bit of the lessons in the Word... "If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is their duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with their sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather is pointing out the truth in hope of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20)." -gotquestions.org website Now, how about some decent DISCUSSION and refraining from arguing. The LORD does also see the posting on the boards, and the intent of the thoughts and the motivation of the heart behind the postings. Are we seeking to bring brothers and sisters into fellowship and help them along? Or are we seeking self-exultation and prideful recognition to "be right"? Meditation on the Word...Hmmmm |

Sure Searcher!! Esther- The book is overall about God's provision for His people even in great time of affliction and persecution (Heb 4:14-16)...Also, it points to delieverance from death, but the humble act of a simple, humble orphan girl, even if it meant her death (Phil. 1:18-20; Phil. 2:8).. Job- The LORD was with Him through His suffering and used Job's suffering as a testimony to His grace (Rom. 9:22-24)...Also, it shows us the attitude that we should have when in trials and sufferings (1 Pet. 1:4-7,)... P.S. God's grace is seen all throughout the Bible, but as I hope you know was fully shown through His sending of the Lord Jesus through which came salvtion, eternal life, and forgiveness of sins. Hallelujah! I pity you if the only way you can see Jesus in the Bible is if it is a direct prophecy to His Person...Because the Bible 'as a whole' is filled with an image of Him. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

Sorry, slipped my mind... P.S. Healing for God's people was fulfilled on the Cross. Is 53:5 "The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed." Regardless of what you personally think or anyone else personally thinks, I believe God over man and I know I have been healed spiritually through His stripes. I will post on this subject no more. hidden in Christ Jesus, Lissa |

34 | EdB, Is promise here for believers today | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146818
EdB, I thank you for having the attitude of James 1:19 "...But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger..." You actually read what I was saying and read my disclaimer from my first posting on this topic where I made it 100 percent clear that I had not read the entirety of the post and only chose to offer what the Word says Itself about the OT promises that apply to believers today THROUGH the atoning and redepmtive work that Jesus performed on the Cross. God bless you and shine His countenance upon you. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

35 | Lissa, which promise(s) do you mean? | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146817
EdB, Are you really trying to say that the OT promises are not fulfilled in Christ? Because if so, your analysis and conclusion is total heresy. The entire Bible points to Jesus Christ and God the Father's work of salvation. I totally and outwardly refute that you say otherwise. For this to be resurrection season, you must see that Christ was the true Messiah, because the OT pointed to Him in many ways- through Moses, through the prophets, down to through the OT sacrificial system. Again, heresy to say that the OT was not a forshadow to the redemptive, complete work of the Cross through the Lord Jesus. I will pray that your eyes would be opened to this fact and God would teach you Himself personally. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

36 | Lissa, which promise(s) do you mean? | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146780
Greetings Searcher56, I'm asking if the promises of the OT, can be taken for believers today, in the sense that Jesus fulfilled the promises of the OT...And the OT promises were seen as a foreshadow to the actual promise of the Messiah who would in turn fulfill all the OT 'references.' Heb. 1:1-3 "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high..." I would also site Heb. 4 and Jesus last utterance on the Cross "...It is finished..." Jn. 19:30 I had stated that I had not read the entire thread, but I see the OT's promises being fulfilled in the life, ministry, death, and (Praise the LORD!) resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Thereby making the promises of the OT not necc. "physically or tangibly" (such as land or victorious battles), but "spiritually" (such as seeing the land of Egypt as the place of bondage we were in before we were saved by the Lord or the victorious battles that we when over sin in our life under guidance and help of the Holy Spirit) promises that we can see in the foreshadow and light of what Jesus did on Calvary for us and the power of the Holy Spirit indweeling us as believers. Hope that sums it up with clarity...If it doesn't though, please reply or if you have another view on this I would also be willing to listen! hidden in Christ, Lissa |

40 | Mitch, How is this promise for you (all) | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146668
Hello Saints, I only saw this question presented about the Promised Land (I didn't review the entire thread). But I would like to refer to Josh. 1:13- "Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, 'The LORD your God gives you rest and will give you this land.'... Isn't the promise of the Promised Land linked to the rest that we now have in Christ... Hebrews 4:1-3- Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH,THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. Wasn't the Promised Land a foreshadow of the rest that we receive through Christ through faith? Also, Hebrews 4:8-11- For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. So, can't this promise actually still be for we believer's today in this sense?? hidden in Christ, Lissa |
