1 | this cant be tb the true meaning | Luke 14:26 | Kwamena | 225259 | ||
Hi, When you say, "this could not be the true", I want to think you imply the translation is misplaced. However, it is not. Matthew in [Matt. 10:37] gives a better meaning to what Jesus said. "He who loves mother and father more than I (Jesus) is not worthy of me". First ask yourself who a true disciple is? The 8th edition of the Oxford dictionary defines the word 'disciple' as a follower of a principle or someone (paraphrased). Did Jesus hate his mother and family or his life? The answer is no and yes. No,because Jesus was never gross to His mother and yes because for instance, He never allowed His mother's duty as a mother to interfere with His calling [Luke. 2:49]. Jesus on several occasion avoided the Pharisees and Herod because they sought to kill him before His time [Luke 13:32 cf Jn. 7:1]. But when He was supposed to lay down His life for the salvation of many, He willingly laid it done obeying the WILL of the Father [Luke 22:42]. Therefore as a disciple of Jesus whose first and foremost allegiance and love was to His Father in heaven, then you are required to do likewise. If you can love Him more than you love your family, wealth or life,if you can give up all these things just for his sake, then you are indeed His follower. He gave up His glory and wealth; treated as a thief and a slave just for you and me. Today He asks, 'what are you willing to give up for Him'? John Wesley explains as thus "He that loveth father or mother more than me - He that is not ready to give up all these, when they stand in competition with his duty" is not worthy of CHRIST JESUS. Will you put Jesus first or your life, money and family first? I hope this helped. |

Bitterness, as I have read from the scriptures have been used in various ways. Jobs spoke of the bitterness of his soul. Proverbs contrasted between the bitterness and joy of the heart. I do not know If bitterness as used by Paul has the same implication. What then are the principles governing bitterness? Is bitterness a sin? If yes, why and if No, why? |
