281 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92763
get real! Then I guess THOSE who lived good lives as best they could, being lead only be their consciences and having never heard the name of Jesus and the promises in Him, will go to hell? Sorry. You need more study. |

282 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92757
Oh, I see. Well I trust in your mind that includes those in that Nordic tribe we never met in the Bible and also the South American Indians who had a religion of their own being convinced there was God but didn't know how to worship Him.
283 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92751
"After God's direct revelation of Himself, not before that and not through creation" No way for Noah. He just believed and lived righteously. Should I repeat that? Abraham went out under the stars and made a determination. God heard him. Now what else did God do before Abe believed?..Zippo. |

284 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92750
"What it does NOT say in the passage you've quoted is that anyone will receive salvation at this judgement" Then why a have a judgment at all if not for the possibility of pardon or a lessoning of the sentence? Why not call it the great white condemnation? What do the verses imply, Steve? |

285 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92747
What about God's Grace to those who would have accepted Christ if they had been given the opportunity, Steve, but died maybe centuries too soon? Do you really believe God to be that unfair? I've been trying in a round-a-bout way of trying to make to see this.
286 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92740
"I didn't rip the verses from their moorings. Paul did." No, Paul didn't, You did. You have misapplied what Paul was speaking of to mean something he wasn't saying. He was speaking of the general condition of all mankind. There have always been those within that 'mankind' who lived with consciences directed toward God, who believed He was. Why don't you consider Abraham and maybe Noah.....Just for starters. |

287 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92738
"Yes, it IS too bad they never heard the gospel." ----------- Well I guess Rev 20.12 can't ever apply, in your mind. If it does you have some reconciling and explaining to do. since it has NOTHING to do with rewards, as good Baptist teaching would have you believe, but EVERYTHING to do with one's salvation. Rewards have to do the son's of God who have fought the good fight of faith and have overcome the evil one per 1 John 1 and not those you confess the name of Christ on Sunday, by showing up, but never mention His name at any other time. Rev. 20:12-15 (KJV) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. [14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. |

Very true, indeed. Now what should happen AFTER one, living in the age of the Holy Spirit made available, believes for his salvation? In oher words, what must one do to be a follower of Christ to become a son in His likeness? Should 'being saved', in your estimation, mean more than 'being redeemed'? What's the diiference that should be recognized? Hint: Luke 17:17 (NASB) And Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine-- where are they? |

289 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92729
So I guess everyone went to hell to be in torment for eternity. Too bad they never heard the gospel. BTW, who was Paul quoting that you ripped from it's moorings? When was it written? |

290 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92685
Yes, those who have heard the gospel have the greater responsibility because they have had greater revelation. But that does not mean that those who are a law unto themselves (as it states in Romans 2) are believers. Again, they have never heard the gospel which is required for belief according to Romans 10. Steve How about responding to the rest of what I stated in that post, Steve. I really don't like "runnin rabbits", if you get my drift. |

291 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92684
Again, they have never heard the gospel which is required for belief according to Romans 10. But is it required for salvation or those who never heard and yet lived with a hope and fear of there being a God?......and at this point I refuse to begin repeating myself. |

292 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92683
You ask: "Building what?" Perhaps I should have add verses 10-11 in order to get the context of the paragraph. Paul is refering to building on the foundation of Christ Jesus. We build by the works we do after salvation. But what can those works amount to if you know nothing of the foundation on which Jesus Christ would have you build? To say you build on Him can be a truth but what is the depth of that truth? If you examine what He says you will see it is the Kingdom message that He commissions those who know Him, to preach. Can a saved but carnal Christian do that? Can I stay in my carnality and claim the name of Jesus for myself while not abandoning myself to Him and do the great commission? ------------------------------------- "No, works will not keep me saved. That's part of 1 Cor 3 that I quoted. If we believe on the Lord Jesus, we will be saved even if we do a poor job in this life." What do you mean "poor job in this life". He calls us to perfection. Matthew 5:48 (NASB) "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. But can you do that with the attitude of 'just being saved'? ---------------------------------------- "You should worry about works for two reasons. First, because God wants us to do them. Ephes. 2:10 (ESV" What kind of works do you think He means? ---------------------------------------- "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." The operative word here is "prepared". How is one prepared? Who's initiative is it that we should be in a prepared state? Hint: "Many are called..." ---------------------------------------- "Second, because they prove to others the faith we have. James 2:18-20 (ESV) But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. [19] You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe?and shudder! [20] Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? What faith is this, your's? Your [or my] faith can never be pleasing the God in the sense that these verses refer. If you are born again you are to live by the faith of Jesus Christ who is in you. His faith alone is pleasing to God because it is the only faith equal to God, Himself. You and I are to practice that faith to show ourselves approved. Now our WORKS will demonstrate our FAITH not to be 'just in' Christ, but 'OF' Christ. Now, show me your works that will reveal Christ in you because your works will originate IN the mind of God! He calls us to perfection....His. Can you see that? "Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.... [see also Romans 8.2] |

293 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92678
What you are not understanding is that the gospel must be heard in order to believe--again look at Romans 10. Those appearing before the throne in Rev 20 are not all believers waiting to receive rewards. The text does not say that. What it says is that each gets judged according to his works. But you must believe that some are. What about them? And never mind rewards at this point. Lets just think about the salvation unto life eternal in Heaven. Those that stand there who have done good deeds are the ones Jesus died for [though He surely died for all]. Hence their names are written in the book of life along side those of us who have had Christ preached to us and have believed on Him for salvation.. Now the question becomes: What did you/we do with Christ? We have the greater blessing and the greater responsibility inasmuch as we can be and SHOULD BE His disciples. Those others knew nothing of being "born again". Who will receive the greater reward given the opportunity we have and don't seize it? Who is the promise of Pentecost for, if not for us? |

294 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92666
Say what? What do you mean fire testing my works? What works? You tell me I have to do works to be saved? Build what? Maybe you mean works after I'm saved? Well what works would they be? Will they keep me saved if I do them? Why do I need them if grace is what it is all about? Why should I worry about works if I'm saved anyway? You got alot of questions to answer, my friend. Good Luck. But then again maybe the verses you post are meant for born again folk who know what the kingdom of God is all about; Disciples of Christ. I think so. |

296 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92655
You just might now consider what the preaching of the gospel to be all about if not the telling of the good news concerning the kingdom of God to those who think upon God, live their lives accordingly and desire to know HIM that they become jointheirs with Christ by the KNOWING of God as Jesus knew Him.. That's what evangelism SHOULD BE all about. That's what Jesus explained and Paul taught. Do you really believe 'just saved people' are joint heirs with Christ? |

"To what am I not paying attention? You said that there are those who have not heard the gospel which will be in the book of life. Scripture says you are wrong" __________________________ Sorry but scripture says I'm right. Rev. 20:12 (YLT) and I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and scrolls were opened, and another scroll was opened, which is that of the life, and the dead were judged out of the things written in the scrolls—ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.... Malachi 3:16 (KJV) Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. ...... .......wondering who He could be maybe and living their lives accordingly? Does that sound like people going to hell? I don't think so. I believe they are those who Jesus redeemed from the grave....and will continue to redeem from the grave. |

298 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92645
A side question for you, Curtman: Sometimes these two words are interchangeable in scripture but, in your estimation, is there a difference between being 'saved' and being 'redeemed'? A second question I might ask is what relationship does being "born again" have to do with both/either these words? Can either stand independent of the experience of the INDWELLING? If not, why not? |

299 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | Ken hepting | 92641
Before Jesus was born the world was filled with people residing in many places. They were a mixture of the wicked and the righteous, as best they could be who showed they were by they're good deeds, who all died. Even during His lifetime and afterwards, this was and is the case even today. My question for you is: Does the salvation Jesus provides extend to any of them?

"The Old man is done away with and I am now concerned with the New Man, the things of God? I'm thinking that all this is a RESULT of Salvation. Is there a Real Issue of why Jesus came to earth, other then to save people, or did I miss your point somewhere??" Who said the old man is done away with? Where do you read that? If that were so then there would be no reason to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling", after you're saved. Isn't that what Paul exhorts us to do? Then why the need if the old man is dead? Why the need to purify the soul if there isn't more to being a Christian than just being saved and believing [wrongly] the old man to be dead? Read 1 Peter chapter 1 in light of Heb 5.8. If Jesus is the first of the first fruits are we not expected of the Lord to be sons and if sons then to expect to suffer as Jesus [the man] suffered; to be tested as He was tested? John 15:2 (NASB) "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, HE TAKES AWAY; and every branch that bears fruit, HE PRUNES IT, that it may bear more fruit. This is why we must bring our Old man into obedience with the dictates of the NEW man we are, in Christ. That's not an automatic. Success in this is a result of our success with living the Great Commandment. What is Spiritual warfare all about if it isn't about conquering the biggest enemy we have, our selfish old natures? We all have to expect to have our own personal wilderness experiences where our allegiances are revealed. If Jesus had His, why not us also? What would have happened if He had failed? What will happen if we fail? ----------------------------- Your post is excellent inquiry. I've searched this thing out for years and am now able to see the conclusion to the matter. i.e., Once we are born again we MUST LEARN how to embrace [with all our emotions] the Great Commandent by prayer and the study of the word that reveals God's ultimate intention for those who love Him followed by our resoluteness in seeking the Kingdom of God. In all this is the power 'to become' given us because of the Spirit of the law of life working in us. [Rom.8.2] He shows the things of Christ that we appropiate them for ourselves. They are ours! It's His PROMISE to us that we, who seek with our whole heart to love Him, become like Him. That IS Father's 'ultimate intention'. There's much scripture to support all of this. In fact, the whole NT supports this. |
