21 | Do I still want to belong scripture back | 2 Tim 2:15 | Jesusman | 198450
There's an old preacher's story about turning the other cheek. A champion boxer once retired and became a minister. He worked for years in the church, helping peopl in his neighborhood, in his church, and spreading the word of God. Instead of the fierce boxer that he had been known for, this preacher had become known to be a gentle and compassionate man. One day he is walking home when two thugs stop him and try to mug him. One thug slugs the Preacher. He turns his head and offers them the other one, and the other thug slugs him there. This preacher then crackles his knuckles, doubles up his fists and speaks. "The Good Lord told us to turn the other cheek, but he didn't say to do it twice." While that may not be what you're wanting, it does convey what I'm trying to say. That is that turning the other cheek can only go so far before you have nothing more than sore cheeks. At some point, action needs to be taken. I would remind your friend of Paul's advice to Timothy. Be diligent .. other translations say "study". In other words, don't give up. Follow the Word of God, study it, and present yourself as one being true to it. You won't have to be ashamed of anything. Others will try to put you down, ridicule you, and push you away. Let them. The one you need to turn to is Christ. You only need his acceptance. Jesusman |

22 | Life span, why not in the 100's now? | Rom 6:23 | Jesusman | 198447
Far be it for me to disagree with a commentary writter, but .. um .. no. Given that after this declaration that the lifespan of man kind went from 700 years plus to about 100 plus years, I give more credit to it referring to the length of man's life. Now it could be also in reference to a length of time that man has to repent, but you can't deny the first interpretation unless you totally ignore the context. Jesusman |

23 | Life span, why not in the 100's now? | Rom 6:23 | Jesusman | 198436
You might also look at genesis 6:3. God declares that Man will only live for 120 years. This comes to pass with Abraham. From Noah to Abraham, Man's lifespan drastically reduces. Jesusman |

24 | death and spirits | Bible general Archive 4 | Jesusman | 196425
Greetings, The teaching of soul sleep, that the soul is asleep in the grave until the coming of the Christ cannot be fully supported by the Bible. It's only true support is Jesus's comments while resurrecting Lazarus. The counters to this is the parable of the Rich man and Lazarus, who are both to be dead at the time and both in their respective places of the afterlife. Also you have Jesus's comments to the thief on the cross. "Today, you will be with me in paradise." He didn't say that he'll be with Jesus in a few hundred centuries after sleeping in the grave. As for life after death appearences to loved ones, There is some biblical support, but not much. One that comes to mind is Samuel's spirit being summoned. Also the appearences of Jesus. However, it's a controversal point. My personal take is that I don't reject it, but I don't support it either. When I read and hear about such events, I don't try to argue over it. jesusman |

25 | Explain Godhead Trinity? | Luke 3:22 | Jesusman | 196291
There are several ways to explain the Trinity and each one fails to accurately explain it 100 percent. Each of the member of the Godhead shares the same knowledge, power, ability, and authority. However, each member has a different function. The Father is the creator, and the judge. The Son is the savior, and husband of the Church. The Holy Spirit is the comforter and counsellor. Now .. All three are the same God. We serve one single God, not 3 of them. How such a union works is honestly beyond human understanding. All three members of the Godhead are one single God, yet all three are distinct from one another. The Closest I have ever come to explaining this is via looking at a corporate head. At the head of a corporation, you have the Chairman of the board. He doesn't deal with the day to day workings of the Company, but he is in most respects the owner. You have the CEO. He runs the Company, makes the business decisions and so forth. You also have the Chief of Operations. He makes sure the operational proceedures are running as they should. Together, these three make up the head of the company. However, each one is a separate entity within the Company. Now, there are obvious inconsistancies between comparing God to a Corporate head. However, no one can understand the nature and relationship of the Godhead 100 percent. I hope this helps, Jesusman |

Greetings, If memory serves, I believe Job is the oldest, or one of the older books in the Bible. Genesis is the first because it begins the chronology of Jewish History. Jesusman |

27 | Rev 20:10 | NT general | Jesusman | 195787
Did the Prophets resort to name calling and flimsy insults? No, they didn't. They proclaimed God's message, reguardless of what danger it put them into. They also knew it was from God because they prayed, studied, and were diligent to God's revealed will in his Word. None of us are saying your visions weren't real. We're saying that in order to be sure of their validity, you need to examine God's word, pray, and compare the vision you recieved against the word of God. Remember John's words in 1 John 4:1. Beloved, Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Jesus Loves you, Jesusman |

Greetings Wanna, I am greatly disturbed by what you have written so far. Let me see if I have an understanding of how you view God. Please correct me if I am wrong about this. According to what you have stated so far, God is one to be afraid of. God isn't eternal and all powerful because he doesn't use force to save someone from judgement. God is also vain, jealous, and selfish because someone doesn't love him. Am I correct so far? God is all powerful. However, he also fair and compassionate. Let me ask you this. In today's society, how is it viewed by others when someone is grabbed, pushed down onto his knees, and forced to obey another? It's called slavery. Correct? Do you want a slaver for a God? Something else. Why are you afraid of God? Are you afraid he'll snuff you out of existance with a thought? I have a fear of God, but not one of trembling and terror, but one of respect and reverence. God is a father. He's our Holy Father. Like any father, he loves his children and cares for them. I like how John phrased it in his first letter. "Beloved, how wonderous it is that 'WE' are called the 'Sons of God'." Paul tells us that God adopted us, that we can call him "Abba". Know what that means? It means "Daddy". The close and personal term a child calls his parent. We have full right to call him "Daddy". God is Love. He also merciful and gracious. Those he punishes have been given chance after chance after chance, time and time again through out their lives to come to love and obey God. Paul makes this abundantly clear in Romans chapter 1. There comes a time when God has no choice but to give them exactly what they asked for, separation from him. The thing is, that also includes being punished for continued disobedience. There is one factor that seems to be evading your thoughts. There is more going on than your supposed concept of God acting like a spoiled brat not getting his way. You also have Satan decieving and corrupting the thoughts and minds of people, spreading lies. In closing, Your contempt and disregard for God's word is the reason why you believe what you do. I strongly .. very very strongly .. recommend that you sit down, open your Bible, and start reading it. Look up these verses and passages that we are providing. Read them thuroughly, over and over. Pray to God before reading the Bible and afterwards. Pray for Knowledge, guidence, love, and forgiveness. Study God's word. That's why it's there. Jesus Loves you, Jesusman |

30 | Rev 20:10 | NT general | Jesusman | 195773
Greetings Doc. God will place them on trial. He will judge fairly and accurately. He will pronounce judgement, and follow through accordingly. The original post lead one to believe that God or one of his agents will be down there in hell adding in additional punishment, cracking a whip and such. The Bible doesn't say that. After the judgement, God establishes his eternal kingdom in the new heaven and new earth, void of evil. This judgement is self-imposed. Romans 1:18-32 describes exactly that. God reveals his wrath again unrighteousness. The unrighteous continue in their evil. There is no excuse that can be made. Their continued disobedience is done so on their own volition. God made it known what will happen if they continue. They continue anyways. Paul makes it crystal clear that any punishment brought on by sin is due to the sinner's own willfull sins. It's not because God forced it on them. So the torture or torment that happens to the Unrighteous in hell after the judgement is done so because the Unrighteous broght it upon themselves. Jesusman |

31 | Rev 20:10 | NT general | Jesusman | 195751
Greetings, One thing you seem to overlook is that God isn't the one doing it. There won't be God or one of his angels with a demented look of enjoyment on his face sticking the Devil with a hot poker over and over behind iron bars. Those who are sent to hell aren't dragged their by the hairs on the head. God has provided a choice. Those who refuse to obey and love God deserve this. These aren't the misunderstood innocents who have been convicted by mistake. Those cast into the lake of fire will be evil, sinful, and those who hate God. How can I enjoy heaven when there will be people in the lake of fire? I will enjoy heaven very much, because I will know that I am safe from the evil and wicked. I will enjoy heaven because I won't have to worry about the evil and wicked. I will enjoy heaven because I will be in the presence of God. Remember, God isn't torturing them. They are torturing themselves. They chose to be separated from God. God is giving them exactly what they asked for. Jesusman. |

34 | Jesus unheard of in the old testament!!! | Bible general Archive 4 | Jesusman | 195583
Greetings, I enjoy topics like these. Cause it shows the stupidity of skeptics. First off, There is more than one single passage in the Old Testament about the Massiah. One of my personal Favorites is in Micah. I love the book of Micah, because it lays out like a time line. Chapter one predicts the fall of Israel and Judah. Chapter two predicts the period of exhile in babylon. Chapter three speaks of a period of darkness from God. A time when he won't speak to the prophets. This fits perfectly with the 400 years between the testiments. Chapters 4 predicts the coming of peace in the land, which can be the Pax Romana, or peace of the Roman Empire. Chapter 5 talks about the Messiah himself. I could go on and lay out the rest of the book of Micah, but this is enough to prove my first point. Micah was living during the same time as the Prophets Isaiah and Hosea. They were the earliest of the Prophets. Micah predicts the events of the fall of Judah and Israel. He predicts the 400 years between the testiments. He predicts the peace under the roman empire. He predicts the coming Christ. He lays it out perfectly in a concise time line. Second, he claims that Jesus is a fabrication. If so, then he is one hell of a fabrication. There are roman manuscripts confirming the existance of Jesus, where he was born, that he died of crucifixion, and that there was no body after the Crucifixion. You also have confirmed accounts of the first church members willing to die over this so called fabrication. NO man is willing to die over a lie, let alone the untold number of martyrs during the first century. There are reputable modern day historians who will hail the Gospel writers as being Historically accurate. Dr. Luke specifically has been hailed the most accurate historian of the 1st century. It has been said that there is more historical and archeological support for the life and existance of Jesus Christ, than there is combined evidence to prove that Socrates, Plato, and Alexander the Great even lived. Jesus was a real person. Anyone who denies that is a moron. Third, he says that Paul never knew Jesus. Paul was a pharisee. And given the time that Paul had his encounter, he would have known who Jesus was and what Jesus taught just as well as the Diciples. Paul talks and names Jesus time and time again through out his epistles. He knew Jesus. Fourth, He claims that the Bible has inconsistancies about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Not true. You have the same story told by 4 different people. One is speaking to Jews, one is speaking to Gentiles, one is speaking about a hero, and another is speaking about his best friend. All four are speaking about the same man. To expect the gospel writers to all say the exact same thing about an event, and include the same exact information is rediculous. The facts are all present and consistant. One will add a tidbit that the other 3 don't. Big deal!! Again, he's being a moron. He talks about some things being left out of local history. Well DUH!!! Matthew 28:11-15 tells you that the High Priests told the soldiers to lie. They covered it up. This guy reminds me of the type who knows his version of the truth, and doesn't want to be confused with facts. The facts are there staring him in the face. Jesusman |

35 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | Jesusman | 195427
Let me clarify what I am saying with something that happened to a friend of mine. I had a friend that worked at a bank for several years. Most of the time, he was a teller, handling money. One day, he was invited by the Bank manager to go to the local federal reserve to count money all day. All he did during the period was count money that was fresh off the printers. He did this for a week straight, 8 hours a day. Over and over again. When he got back to the bank the next week, he began counting out money for a customer and stopped. He set a bill aside and pulled another out to replace it. He took the bill he set aside to his bank manage and told him it was a counterfit bill. The bank manager asked how he knew. My friend told him that he had counted the real thing over and over for a week straight. He knew it was counterfit because it didn't feel like the others. A christian who has been faithfull in his walk with christ will be studying and praying continuously. He won't have to study and pray further because as soon as a false teaching comes to him, he'll know it instantly. It doesn't matter who presenting the false teaching. I don't care if it is the Pope himself. If what they are teaching is contrary to the Bible, and if I have a means to communicate with them, I will tell them. I will also show them why their teaching is wrong with scriptural support. If I don't have a means to communicate with them, but can do so to the ones listening to the false teachings, I will counter with the true and scriptural message. Jesusman |

38 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | Jesusman | 195409
Its becoming clear that the best we can do is to agree to disagree. When I hear or see false doctrine being taught, I am greatly offended. Why? Because I have devoted my life to the studying and understanding of the Bible. If I have a means of speaking out against false teachers, I do. If I have a means to correct the false teaching, I do just that. Taking no action is as much of a sin in my eyes as teaching these falsehoods myself. If no action is taken, then these false teachings will pass onto others, and will spread wildly. If anyone has problems with what I teach, then by all means, grab a Bible and let's talk it out. jesusman |

39 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | Jesusman | 195405
Greetings Tron613, We commanded by John in 1 john 4:1 to not believe everyone who claims to be of God, but to put them to the test. Paul told Timothy to study. in Acts 17:11, Paul and Silas were at the church in Berea, and the congregation was comparing what they were taught against the scriptures. We are under the mandate to make sure that everything we teach in God's name and from God's word is done so truthfully and accurately. Jesus himself even said that if we witness a brother sinning, then to confront that brother. In this case, scripture was being taken out of context, and false doctrine was being taught. It is the duty of every Christian to ensure that the Bible is taught with the utmost accuracy. Now, in reguard to my comment about "butchering" the Scripture, the WoF leaders, such as Hagee, Hinn, Copeland, and others do just that. This morning, I watched a portion of Hagee's sermons on the TV before I went to church. In the time span of only 5 minutes, he misquoted the Bible 4 times. After that, I changed the channel. This is supposed to be a trained biblical scholar, and he got the story of Adam and Eve totally backwards. So .. Yes, we do have the authority to question any teaching that is supposed to be about the Bible, and to test it against scripture. Yes, we do have the authority to correct the false teachers. If they correct their ways, then Jesus tells us to welcome them. If they refuse, then ultimately, they are to be shunned. I have no problems with any questionable or controversal teaching, so long as it can be accurately supported by scripture. I also have beliefs that some concider controversal. I also strive to accurately support every belief with scripture, not resorting to taking scripture out of context to support any of my claims. Jesusman |
