203 | difference Christian and catholic | Acts 11:26 | Jesusman | 50849
Hello, As for your first question, One of the main differences between being Christian and being a Catholic was started by the Catholics themselves. When the Great Reformation grew more and more, the Catholic church excommunicated most of those involved. As a result, those people were viewed not only as non-catholic, but non-christian as well. In fact, you will find it a popular belief among catholics that the Catholic church is the only true christian church and all others are phoney. In addition to that, they believe that they haven't changed since Christ first started the Church, which is laughable when you read some of their history and beliefs. The "true" church is stated clearly with in the Bible (Old and New Testament). When you look at some of the Catholic traditions and practices, you see many heresies, falsehoods, and questionable practices. For example, there is no office of Pope mentioned by name, described, or explained at all in the Bible. According to Catholic beliefs, the Pope is infallible, sinless, and the head of the Church. That is the description of Jesus Christ alone, not some man. In fact, Paul in Romans clearly teaches that all people have sinned. Paul also teaches that Jesus alone is the head of the Church. Jesus christ himself even confirms all of this in numerous places. It is clear that the office of Pope is a non-biblical role, and is even heretical because it goes against Biblical teachings. Another example, from many, is their teaching about Mary. According to Catholic tradition, Mary was born of a special birth just as John the Baptist and Jesus was. According to tradition, if I remember correctly, Mary's parents were visited by an angel and told about the importance of their future daughter. Now, on the surface, this appears to be okay. However, it goes against the Old Testament Prophecies. Allow me to clarify. The Prophet Micah speaks of a period of darkness in which the Prophets will go blind, and where God will NOT speak to mankind at all. According to Micah, this period of Darkness begins with the return of the Isrealites to their homeland after the Babylonian Exhile, and ends with the coming of the Messiah. Now, the Prophet Malachi, the last prophet of the Old Testament period, prophecied during the Return from the Exhile. He prophecied that the Messiah will arrive after Elijah. A prophet will come before the Messiah, will be in the spirit of Elijah, and will prepare the way for the Messiah. So, in all, you have the Period of Darkness ending with the Coming of Elijah, or John the Baptist as Jesus confirms. Now, according to biblical teachings, an angel being sent to earth is the same as God speaking. Any miracles happening is God speaking. So, if Catholic tradition is true, then Mary the Mother of Jesus is Elijah returned, John the Baptist is the Messiah, Jesus is wrong, the entire Bible is false, and we've all been practicing the wrong religion for 2000 years. Athiests could have a field day with this one! Also, those two prophecies of Micah and Malachi prove that the Apocrypha is not canon and should not be in the Bible. Why? The Apocrypha is proven to have been written during the 400 year period between the Testaments. To be canonical, a book must be insired, or spoken, by God. So, how can the Apocryphal books be canonical if they were written in a time when God was not speaking? See my point? As you can see, the Catholic church has some major areas to work on if they want to be concidered the "True" Church. Now for you other question. The matter of not being able to show how you feel about God in church is a matter of tradition, privacy, and fear. First off, the main factor is fear. Many people are afraid to show anything in public for fear of looking like fools. The Second factor is privacy. Jesus commanded that our prayers should be private. In fact, many of the prayers in the Bible were done in private. IN fact, the Bible teaches that our relationship with God should be largely private. The idead being that if our private lives are in sinc with God, then our public life will reveal that as well. The final factor involves tradition. This goes all the way back to the hebrew worship practices. Much of the hebrew worship services were quiet occasions. Then add on the Catholic Church's influence on that, and you have people not speaking or anything during worship. Also you have the verse from Paul being majorly distorted that reads, "Women should keep silent in church ...". Bring all of these together, and you have your answer. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

210 | The Silent Journey | Bible general Archive 1 | Jesusman | 50208
Hello, The other day, I was walking around under the stars when I noticed something different about them. For the first time, I began to think in a different perspective. It was a perspective I knew all along, but never chose to think in that way before. Allow me to share this with you. When most people refer to space, constellations, galaxies, planets, solar systems, stars, and so forth, They refer to it terms that it's all in a fixed position. That somehow all of the things we see at night are always there in the same spot day after day. I began thinking about this when all of a sudden it hit me. Things in space are not stationary. In fact, everything is moving. It appears that when people think of the stars being in the same place day after day, they fail to concider the fact that the Earth has moved nearly a million and a half miles since the day before, the solar system has travelled as a whole nearly a million miles, and the rest of the galaxy has also moved. This movement has been constant since the day of creation. However, you have people who come along and boast about the Big Bang Theory without ever concidering the Phenomenon past the fact itself; never thought about the kinds of changes that that picture of the Universe implies ... the vast silent journeys, the terrible speeds. They never concider how such a blank explaination diminishes the wonderous story of God's hand. When I look into the nighttime sky, I don't see a silent journey anymore. I see the precision of God's handiwork. I see his ever steadying hand guiding the course of each and every star. Yes, the Universe is moving, but look at the precision in which it moves. The constellation Orion has been noted all throughout History. The name Orion is believed to have come from the ancient Summarian name of that constellation: Uru-ana. The Orion Constellation is that of the Hunter. It's form is steeped in mythology from nearly every culture across the gloabe throughout history. What amazes me is that through nearly 10,000 years of recorded history, this constellation has remained the same. With all the movements and travels that this old Universe has undergone, the constellations of today appear the same as they did several thousand years ago. With all this precision visible to Mankind, how on earth can people say "There is no God!"? When all is said and done, all I can do is quote Hebrews 10:31. "It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the Living God!" Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

211 | root word study, "sons of God" OT | Job 38:7 | Jesusman | 50206
The term most commonly found is "Bene" or "Ben". It carries three Common meanings. The first is in Blood relatives. My dad mated with my mom, and, nine months later, I became their son. The Second is in terms of similarities. Let me explain. I am a son of God not because God mated with my mother and I was born nine months later. Therefore, I am not a blood son. However, I am a son of God through spiritual adoption as well as because I follow God's teachings. So, I am a son of God because I follow God. The Third meaning is in terms of Heratige. Jesus was a son of David, but David did not mate with a woman and have Jesus Nine months later. Through ancestry and lineage, Jesus was a son, "Decendant", of David. Understand? Now, with that, one needs to figure out what the author is referring to. In the case of Job, I do not think that he is referring to Angels. In fact, I do not believe that "Sons of God" ever refers to angels in the Bible. I think that, in Job, "Sons of God" is referring to believers in God. When the passage refers to them being before God, I believe that is a description of Worship. Part of the reason why I hold to this is found in Hebrews 1:5. In this verse, the question is asked "To which of the angels did HE ever say, 'thou art my son, today I have begotten thee?'" The answer is "NONE!" You will never find a passage where God claims an angel to be his son. So, with that, you have proof to say that not only is Lucifer not Jesus' brother, but that Jesus is not an angel. 212 | need for a bible-anyone | Bible general Archive 1 | Jesusman | 50205
Hello, I'm glad to here that are born again. That kind of news is always welcomed. Many of the others who have responded have provided information concerning where and how to get a full bible. Therefore, I will turn to your comments concerning the Old Testament in relation to the New Testament. First off, what is a "Testament"? A Testament is a covenant or promise made between two people or groups. In the Bible, God made 8 covenants with men. Each of the covenants build upon the one prior. The New testament is about the "New Covenant". This "New Covenant" is the last one God has made. With this Covenant, God sent Jesus Christ to Die, be buried, and to rise again. Through this new Covenant, Salvation was provided for mankind. Now, what about the other 7? The Covenants begin with the Edenic Covenant in Genesis 1-2. With this covenant, God decreed that Mankind would Marry, and multiply across the earth. Also, he established the Garden of Eden as the beginning spot. The Next covenant is the Adamic covenant in Genesis 3. With this covenant, God cursed mankind, the serpent, and the land. He also established the first prophecy of the Messiah in Genesis 3:15. This covenant establishes Man's sinful nature and the need for redemption. The third covenant is the Noahic Covenant in Genesis 9. With this covenant, God promised to never attempt to destroy sinful man again through waters and floods. The Fourth Covenant is the Abrahamic Covenant Beginning in Genesis 12. This covenant spans across Abrahams life. It begins with a promised land, goes to include an heir, and ends with the promise of a nation through which the Messiah will come. The fifth, and most noted covenant is the Mosaic Covenant. This Covenant is also known as the Law. It includes the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Next to the New Covenant, this one is the most important. Not only does it establish the Law, but it reveals God's ultimate will and plan for mankind for the First time. The four prior covenants share small portions of what God has planned, but they don't deal much in how sin can be removed. This covenant covers what it takes to be sinless, which only the Messiah can be. The Sixth Covenant is the Palestinian Covenant in Deuteronomy 30. This covenant establishes the Land once promised to Abraham to be given to the Israelites as their nation home land. This is also the land where the Messiah will come from and the Kingdom he shall reign from. The Seventh Covenant is known as the Davidic Covenant found in 2 Samuel 7. This covenant establishes the House of David to rule forever. This is another Messianic Covenant in that it establishes that the Messiah will be of David's house. These seven covenants form the basis of the New Covenant, which Jesus established. In the Parable of the Rich man and Lazarus, Abraham says that the brothers of the Rich man have the Law and the Prophets to guide them. Well, we've already discussed the Law and the Covenants. Let's take a look at the Prophets. The Prophets sort of fill in the gaps. They attempt to explain the Covenants and God's will in further detail. They are divided into three groups. 1) Non-writting prophets: Prophets like Nathan, Elijah, and Elisha fall into this group. There are others, but these are the most noted ones. 2) Major Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and Ezekiel. Lamentations, written by Jeremiah, is also included here. They are called "major" because their books span their entire life. 3) Minor Prophets: The rest of the writting prophets fall into this category. They include: Amos, hosea, micah, malachi, zephaniah, zechariah, habakkuk, haggai, Nahum, Jonah, Joel, and Obediah. They are called this because their books contain only portions of their lives. This is a basic breakdown and summary of how the Old Testament applies to the New Testament. Basically, The Old Testament is the background to the New Testament. Without the Old Testament, It would be like watching Star Wars: Return of the Jedi without ever watching the other movies. I hope this helps. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

213 | Hebrews 6:6 explained | Heb 6:6 | Jesusman | 47257
Hello, It is my cardinal rule, whether it's anyone elses or not is not the case, to always look at the context while looking at a passage. Therefore, when looking at Hebrews 6:6, we must look at the surrounding verses. In Hebrews 6:1-3, the author sets up the passage. Notice his tone and choice of words. He speaks of setting the basic and elementary teachings aside and going further into what he identifies as "Maturity". In verses 2-3, he identifies the teachings that he is setting aside. The subjects he lists entail nearly all of the basic categories of Christian Doctrine. So, it is clear that the author is going to be talking about something higher in thinking. Possibly even theoretical in nature, especially concidering his prayer in verse 3, "...if God permits". In verses 4-5, he sets up his case. There are those who have "once been enlightened", "tasted the heavenly gift", "been partakers of the Holy Spirit", and "tasted the word of God and powers of the age to come". At the beginning of verse 6, he says that there are these same people who have also fallen away. As a result, he says that it is not possible for them to come to repentance again. Why? because they would be crucifying Christ a second time, and putting God to open shame. Now, many people, when studying this passage, have a bad habit of stopping half-way through verse 6, and not going any further. They only see the part that says "it is impossible to renew them again to repentance ...". They fail to read the remainder of the verse and the verses following. The people who do this are the ones who advocate that a christian can loose his/her salvation. That is not the truth, and I'll show why. Before we go further, it is important to point out a few things that should be obvious, but are often overlooked. As the saying goes, if you want to hide something, hide it in plain sight. Well, that is exactly what the author does here. The key to understanding this passage is three-fold. The first part is found in verses 1-5. The tone of this passage is that of a "what-if". "What if this is possible? What would happen?" That is the nature of this passage. His first words in this passage were "leave elementary teachings and move on to maturity". So, he is trying to get the audience to think. The second part of the key is found in verse 6. Notice that he says that such an act of renewal would "put Him to open shame ...". The question that needs to be asked is why would this shame God? Jesus tells us that those who the Father hold are His and that no one will be able to snatch them out of His hands. The author, in this passage in Hebrews, is talking about an event where that, which is held securely in the hands of God, was snatched away. Therefore, such an event would prove God to be not only inept, but a failure and a liar as well. This third part to the key is found in the following verses. In verses 7 and 8, the author brings an analogy of farming. The farming analogy is common throughout the Bible. Even Jesus used the analogy on several occasions. In these verses, there are two types of soil: rich and useful, the other brings thorns and is worthless. He continues to say that the worthless soil is done away with, while the useful soil is tilled and worked. Now, compair this with Jesus' usage of the analogy. The soils represent mankind: the Saved and Non-saved. The seeds and planting would be God's word and works in our lives. Notice that both land types are worked. One isn't chosen over the other initially. Both land types are worked at the beginning. It isn't until after the barren land proves to be worthless that it is rejected. So, here we have the third part to the key. Now, let's pull it together. 1) This is a subject beyond the basics. 2) A Christian losing salvation would prove God to be a failure and a liar. 3) All types of people are initially approached by God. So, with this in mind, the author is saying that once a person has been approached by God, found to be barren and worthless, and rejected because of, as another passage has it, his hardened heart, then that person cannot be saved. Why? well, Paul talks about this in Romans 1. Basically, that person has willfully hardened his heart, and rejected God and his teachings. So, with all this in mind, the author here isn't really talking about the saved person at all, but the non saved person who God has approached, but eventually rejected God. He describes a person who has tasted all that God has to offer, but has rejected it none the less. When this final rejection takes place, that person loses his/her chance for salvation because the heart was hardened against God. I hope this helps. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

215 | What is the proper NT church government? | NT general Archive 1 | Jesusman | 46379
Hello, According to 1 Peter 5:2, Acts 20:28, and John 21:17, Pastors are the shepherds of the Congregation. They are also called "Overseers". It is the Pastor who was the head of the Church body. According to Acts 6, where it talks about the first Deacons, they were to be the personal aids and ministers to the Pastor, and weren't originally to have governing power over the congregation. In 1 Timothy 5:17, Elders were to also shepherd the flock. Also, if you look carefully, Pastors were viewed as Elders. Jesusman |

Hello, You commented that I shouldn't tell you what others are saying if I can't help a person. Actually, I was trying to help. The issue about the mosaic authorship was brought up. I provided information and materials that supported the Mosaic authorship and refuted the JEDP idea. In a following post, I provided by what authority I have to make such claims about the Mosaic Authorship. To sum it up, My training in College is in this field. My master's degree will be in this field. I have devoted my life to not only understanding what the Bible teaches, but how we got the Bible. Now, my comments about feeling as though I was being Patronized were brought about because of your recommendation that all I had to do was to go to an online search engine and type in the words. Sorry, but there is much more to it than that. Also, not all of the online content can be trusted. Some can, but not all. I learned that the hard way. Also, I don't know where you get the idea that I was calling people names. I was stating fact, that is all. If you don't realize that, than it's not my problem. Also, you commented that there was no need to get mad or be hostile. My question in return is this, "Why did you get Hostile then?" Jesusman |

217 | ? is the difference of soul and spirit | NT general Archive 1 | Jesusman | 42178
Hello, That's rather a difficult question to answer. The best way I've come to understand it is in reference to the Trinity. According to Genesis 1:27, Man was created in the image of God. According to a former religion professor of mine, that image includes everything that separates Man from Beast. In a personal opinion, I think that image includes a three-fold nature, similar to that of God. The Spirit would be similar in function to the Holy Spirit. As God communes with Man through the Holy Spirit, so does man commune with God through his own Spirit. According to Jesus in John 3, Salvation is when this Spirit is made alive. The Soul would be similar in function to the Father. According to Jesus in John 8, sin is not only death, but it is also slavery. I have come to think of the Soul as being in Slavery prior to salvation. When we are saved, not only is the Spirit born, but the Soul is released from it's slavery. I believe it is the Soul that Paul is referring to when he talks about the Old Man and New Man. To finish this, I have come to view the Body as being infected. Upon salvation, the birth of the Spirit, and the release of the Soul, the Body is then cleansed. ON top of that, I view the Body in a similar way as the Son. As Jesus, being God the Son, was God's physical presence among men, so are our bodies a representation of our inner-selves. Notice that Jesus and Paul both place emphasis upon the actions of true believers. "By their fruits, you shall know them ..." Sometimes, "Soul" is used in reference to the combination of the Spirit and the Body, as in Genesis 2. However, when you study the context carefully, you find that the verse is using "soul" in reference to being alive. As if to say, to quote Dr. Frankenstein, "IT"S ALIVE!" :-) This was possibly more than what you were looking for, but I hope it answers your question. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

219 | Can a man know God without a Bible? | Rom 10:17 | Jesusman | 41995
Hello, I'd have to say yes to this question. In Romans 2:12-16, Paul deals with a similar question. In this case, He is dealing with the Law. Up until Paul's time, the Jews kept the Law all to themselves. The gentiles were excluded from knowing it. That wasn't God's intentions. As a result, Paul says this in verse 14, Those who do not have the Law, yet instinctively do that which is in the Law, their actions become a law unto themselves. Now, while this is dealing with God's judgement in sin rather than the application of Grace, I think the same principle applies. Romans 1:18-32 teaches that God has revealed himself to all of mankind. As a result, man has no excuse before God. This is basically referring to general revelation or God's revelation through natural means. It also is believed that such revelation is non saving. However, God is still revealing himself. Besides, with his power, he can make himself known to any he choses, saving or otherwise. Jesusman |
