583 | Clarification of entering the temple | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 71776
Chusarcik, Her is one perspective on Rev 15:5-8 from the Navarre Bible commentary. "The text now goes on to describe the divine intervention, which is as it were a response to this hymn of praise (v 1-4; its language is very similar to that used in connection with the blowing of the seventh trumpet (CF 11:19). This helps t link up th two passages. The difference is that the tent of witness now takes the place of the Ark of the Covenant. Both tent and ark are supposed to remain hidden until the advent of Messianic times (2 Macabees 2:4-80); once they were rediscovered, the glory of God would make itself manifest again, as happened when the temple of Solomon was dedicated . The cloud of smoke (a symbol of the glory of the Lord0 meant that the priests were unable to perform their ministry (cf. 1 Kings 8:10-11). The appearing of the tent signals that God's design is about to be fully realized. The author is telling us that the Parouisa is imminent; he will describe it further on. Because the seven bowls are used to cast the seven plagues upon the earth, they are said to be full of thewrath of God: in other words, they are filled with divine justice, as will now be made manifest to all. The bowls , then, symbolize both the prayers of the saints (which have caused God to intervene: (cf.note on Rev 5:8)and the effects of those prayers-the victory of good and the punishment of evil. Strctly speaking the bowls symbolize the prayers of the saints; their content is not the plagues as such but the outcome of prayer-action on God's part which serves to console the righteous (the perfume of incense) and punish the followers of the beast, those who work iniquity (the wrath of God)." In reading v 5-8 see these refernce verses; Wx 25:21 Lev 26:21 Rev 14:10 Wx 40:34 1 Kings 8:10 Is 6:4 Ezek 44:4 Emmaus |

586 | diccerence between old test and new test | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 72776
ladyappleman, Here is one of the simplest brief explanations I have seen of the difference between the two Testaments or Covenants. "one of the most significant differences bewteen the old and New Covenants: the Old Covenant is adminsitered by God with human mediators who came under oath and then sinned- like Adam (see Rom 5:12-21) and Israel (see Hebrews 3-4)-thereby triggering the covenant curses. In contrast, the New Covenant is established by the God-man, Jessus, but only after he had fulfilled the terms- and borne the curses- of the Old covenant. He thus became the mediator of the New Covenant (see Hebrews 8-9), which he ratified by oath-swearing." A Father Who Keeps His Promises, by Scott Hahn, p 26 1994, still in print Emmaus |

590 | Trinity explanation made easy??????????? | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 73314
dat, I don't know that there are any "easy" explanations of the Trinity that can do an adequate job. The most popular seem to be the three leaf clover and the , water, ice, steam analogies.. But they break down at some point because the Trinity is ultimately a divine mystery accessable only by faith. But that said let me refer you to this link for a more detailed efoort at explaning the Trinity to the extent that it can be explained: http://www.christusrex.org/www1/CDHN/believe.html#TRINITY Emmaus |

591 | The Human Race... A few questions | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 73333
purduebid, A few questions to ponder Regarding the human race in general terms: 1 Is human nature inherently good or evil? It was inherently good as God originally created it Genesis 1:31), but since the fall it it has an inherent tendency toward evil and death, which is known as consupiscence. 2 Are human biengs born good? Good in the sense of holy, No. "By Adam's sin many (all men) were made sinners...sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned" Romans 5:12,19. Humans are born in a state of sin that is "contracted " by the transmission of a fallen human nature from parents. This state of original sin is a condition of fallen human nature, not a committed act. But the fallen nature and state of original sin leads humans inevitably to personal acts of sin. 3 Is human life more valuable than any other life on earth? why? Yes, because only humans are created in the "image and likeness of God," that is capable of self knowledge, possessing a will and freely able to enter into communion with other persons, even as God does. Human beings are the summit of God's plan of creation and though the image and likeness of God was defaced and crippled by original sin it was not completely destroyed. 4 Are there any answers in the Bible to current issues related to human life? Although many issues related to human life today ( in vitro fertilization, genetic manipulation, cloning, euthanasia, abortion, etc.) are not in the Bible, basic principals found in the Bible related to human dignity and the perogatives of God and man can be applied to draw moral and ethical conclusions about current issues. "Am I a God at hand, says the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? says the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the LORD. Jeremiah 23:23-24 "He is in all things giving them being, power and operation; so He is in every place as giving it existence and locative power." 594 | Abomination by remarrying your ex? | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 73784
rjc, In the spiritual realm this would be a reconciliation and restiration of your marriage. Civily is would be a remarriage after a divorce. In this passage: " "You are right in saying that you have no husband (lord)(Baal). I tell you you have more than one husband," Jesus is making a word play on the would Baal for husband (the lord of a wife) because the Samaritans were transplanted into Israel from five pagan cities also conquered by the Assyrians and they brought their five Baals (gods) with them. Jesus is not condoning her lifestyle. Loose sexual conduct (in this case, adutery)in the Bible is an analogy for idolatry. Read the book of Hosea. For the ancient Israelites the difference between a contract and a covenant was te difference between an encounter with a prostitute (an exchange of goods and services) and marriage ( a giving of one's total self to on another). That is why the marital image of God relationship with Israel is often depicted as a marriage relationship and Israel's idolatry is depicted as adultery. But God is always seeking reconciliation. |

astafford, I do not think you will find a single example of anyone laying hands on themselves in the Bible. It seem that it is always someone with authority who lays hands on another to transmit some blessing, spiritual gift or to confer authority on another. Emmaus |

Kaydulce, This is not a chat room, but a bible stucy forum with a wide range of opinions and some disputes on various issues. Because you are just starting out in your relationship with Christ you would probably be better off getting in person advice at a good Church from a good pastor. Do you belong to a Church? Does it have a good teaching program? Emmaus |

597 | what is spiritual bondage | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 74809
mellow, Look at the following verses in their contexts. John 8:33 Romans 8:15 Galatians 5;1 Hebres 2;15 And look at the entire book of Exodus which is as much about the spiritual bondage of an entire people as their phsyical bondage and how God led them kicking and screaming and backlsliding out of bondage. it is hard to be free after you have been a slave. Freedom comes with responsibilities and accountability. Emmaus |

600 | How many lashes Jesus received | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 75289
The number of lashes Jesus received is not specified in the Gospels. Deut 25:1-3 limits the number of blows to 40 but that was Jewish law and Jesus was scourged by the Romans not according to Jewish law. |
