igsb737 Try this link for traditional Roman religion. There are others if you search "Roman Religion." http://www.novaroma.org/religio_romana/ Keep in mind that shortly after Christ death , Resurrection and Ascension, that Roman religion was transitioning to Emperor worship and much of the early Church persecutions had to do with the refusal of Christian and Jews to make a public act of worship by burning inmcenes to the Emperor or in front of his statue. 222 | Jehovah's Witness Question | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 124979
"Thank you for responding to me. Please explain "begotten not made" to me a bit more if you can before I can comment on your question to me." VictorA, In the context of the Trinity, the term begotten is not quite the same as a man begets since men need women and a man does not beget within himself. In the Creed it means that the Son was always with the Father as the Word or Logos, consubstnace, "one in Being" with the Father." So te Son is uncreated and eternal, always existing with the Father and the Holy Spirit. After this evening I wll be away for a while and may not be able to respond. Emmaus |

223 | Jehovah's Witness Question | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 124980
VictorA, A little more on your question. "Thank you for responding to me. Please explain "begotten not made" to me a bit more if you can before I can comment on your question to me." It is also worth noting that in John 1 "In the beginning, the Word was with God and the Word was God." We will not focus on the elusive article "a", but rather on the past tense "was" in relation to "the beginning" of time and creation that is. The Word "was" before the beginning. Past tense, already eternally existing. ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE. Now, how about that answer to my single question. Emmaus eMMAUS |

I would like it to stay for a awhile please.:-) I have many large blood clots in my right leg, that have gone to both lungs. This is a critical and dangerous condition. The prognosis is grim from a medical stand point. The doctors are amazed I am not in great pain and I can breath with good oxygen saturation. Everyone is stumped as to how I have made it thus far. The next 90 days either will take me home to be with the Lord or I will begin to improve. I request specifically that you to pray for me to be in the Father's direct will for my life, and for my family. Blessings to all the Forum for you have been a rich blessing in my life! I am at peace, and rest in Jesus Christ. I have known Jesus Christ as Lord from the age of 9. My favorite Scripture is Psalm 139. justme (Mike) |

225 | What is missionary dating? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 125274
MsGrant, "Missionary dating" is a term that referris to the unwise practice of men or women dating non-believers in the hopes of converting them to Christ or one's own denomination. This usually proceeds from mixed motives involving romantic feelings and more often than not leads to misery rather than happiness. The bible does not speak of "missionary dating" but does tell us: "do not be unequally yoked" (2 Corinthians 6;14)and warns against marrying unbelievers in various places. Emmaus |

Rev 14:8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality." Rev 14:9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, Rev 14:10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. Rev 14:11 "And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." Eph 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Col 3:6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, |

230 | Why we have to suffer for the sin of Ada | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 126198
Johnny, Hope this helps some. "How did the sin of Adam become the sin of all his descendants? The whole human race is in Adam "as one body of one man".By this "unity of the human race" all men are implicated in Adam's sin, as all are implicated in Christ's justice. Still, the transmission of original sin is a mystery that we cannot fully understand. But we do know by Revelation that Adam had received original holiness and justice not for himself alone, but for all human nature. By yielding to the tempter, Adam and Eve committed a personal sin, but this sin affected the human nature that they would then transmit in a fallen state. It is a sin which will be transmitted by propagation to all mankind, that is, by the transmission of a human nature deprived of original holiness and justice. And that is why original sin is called "sin" only in an analogical sense: it is a sin "contracted" and not "committed" - a state and not an act. The doctrine of original sin, closely connected with that of redemption by Christ, provides lucid discernment of man's situation and activity in the world. By our first parents' sin, the devil has acquired a certain domination over man, even though man remains free. Original sin entails "captivity under the power of him who thenceforth had the power of death, that is, the devil"(cf. Heb 2:14).Ignorance of the fact that man has a wounded nature inclined to evil gives rise to serious errors in the areas of education, politics, social and morals. The doctrine of original sin is, so to speak, the "reverse side" of the Good News that Jesus is the Savior of all men, that all need salvation and that salvation is offered to all through Christ. The Church, which has the mind of Christ, knows very well that we cannot tamper with the revelation of original sin without undermining the mystery of Christ. The consequences of original sin and of all men's personal sins put the world as a whole in the sinful condition aptly described in St. John's expression, "the sin of the world".This expression can also refer to the negative influence exerted on people by communal situations and social structures that are the fruit of men's sins." 231 | How our Loving God commanded such things | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 126201
Johnny, It is God's way of cleansing the earth of sinful people on a smaller scale than the Flood of Noah. The bible is full of passages in which God says he is using one people to chastise another. See for example Isaiah 10:5-7, 13-16. and consider that the Assyrians for all practical purposes wiped out the ten "lost" tribes of Israel. The wrath of God is no small thing. Emmaus |

232 | WAS MY IMPORTANT DIVORCE A SIN | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 126281
TLKPCONFUSSED, Even the strictest position against divorce takes into consideration the sometime legitimate need to protection oneself from abuse. In this strictest interpretation no sin is incurred by the divorce itself in such a situation but only if one marries again. So you have not commited an unforgiveable sin by protecting yourself legally from abuse. Emmaus |

236 | reference to praying for the dead | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 126407
"Can someone tell me if there is reference to praying for the dead in the Bible." There is in Catholic bibles in 2 Macabees 12:42 -46 "Turning to supplication, they prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted out. The noble Judas warned the soldiers to keep themselves free from sin, for they had seen with their own eyes what had happened because of the sin of those who had fallen. He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin." The Jews still pray for their dead. Emmaus |

240 | Where is God? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 126922
Schoolman, I understand your situation well. I think at some point we have to stop knocking and asking and starting looking and listening for God in every situation. We have to look around us and say. Where is God in this situation and what is is He trying to say to me or teach me or ask me to do? I have found that helpful for the application of the Christian life in me. I also recommend praying the Psalms. You can't get too much of them. If you time is limited focus in prayer on the Gospels and Psalm in equal measure. Knowing God is not so much a head thing or an intellectual exercise as it is an exercise of the heart. I hope this helps you some. Emmaus |
