Justme As Billy Graham said, God is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah if He continues to allow this society to go unpunished. EdB |

New Creature Did you get that Pastors name? I would love to know cause I can check and find out what he is preaching. You may not know this but AG churches are sovereign Which in effect allows a pastor to pretty much preach what he wants. While most AG churches conform to the AG doctrine many have left for richer (richer in this world only) fields. Let me assure you most AG pastors never see that kind of money and in fact many aren't paid at all. EdB |

Justme I agree I'm not a big fan of the Left Behind for two reasons. The first and biggest is they portray the tribulation period as an adventure. With good guys and bad guys mixing it up. However if I read Revelations right the tribulation period is going to be more dog eat dog and just surviving is going to be an effort. The bad guys will be in charge and all hell will be broken loose. It will not be a time of high adventure it will be a time filled with regret and anguish. The other problem I have is too many are going to use this series for theology. It is like the movie Ten Commandments where they portray the children of Israel leaving Egypt with the stretchers with sick and crippled hobbling on their way. That is how many people picture it except Psalm 105:37 tells us “He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes. “ People completely miss this great miracle of God after 400 years of slavery God strengthen them to walk out. This is just one example of the bad the theology people pick up. Does the book do good? Yes at least while people are reading them they aren’t able to be reading Harry Potter or some other piece of junk. EdB |

8244 | Seven Church "ages"? Is it scriptural? | Revelation | EdB | 95893
John There seems to be some correlation between the seven churches and seven periods of time in the church history. This view is Historicist view and can be described as an alternate to the Preterist, Spiritualistic and Futuristic views. These are some brief excerpt from course notes of mine, which discuss the subject. Church of Ephesus It was a church in the middle of wanton materialism, paganism and heathenism. Church from 30 AD - 100 AD Church of Smyrna Smyrna is the martyr church, the church that suffered martyrdom for Christ. Smyrna means "Myrrh" which carries the meaning of suffering. Similar to the church during the period 100 AD to 314 AD From the death of John to the edict of toleration by Constantine which ended the persecution of Christians. Church of Pergamos Pergamos means tower. Representative of the church from 300 AD to 590 AD Paganism unlimited. World move into the church without conversion, church committed fornication or Balaamism. The Church of Thyatira Representative of the church from 590 AD to 1500 AD this period was known as the dark ages. Rise of Papal church with Icons that people bowed down to idol Worship. Inquisition and Crusades can be seen as forms of Jezebelistic persecution. The Church of Sardis The church between 1500 and 1789. The reformation church where Martin Luther nailed his Ninety five theses to the door of the church. Church given over to formalism and ritual. A form of Godliness but without power. Reformation was a political struggle more than a religious struggle. Church of Philadelphia The revived church 1789 - 1900 AD. Revivals of Whitefield, John Wesley, Charles Finney and D. L. Moody. Evangelistic and missionary minded. Church that turned back to the word of God. Church of Laodicea Modern church rich and self sufficient. Neither hot nor cold going through the motions but not really fighting the good fight. EdB |

8245 | A New Reformation? | Revelation | EdB | 95954
New Creature If his congregation was large and wanted to lavish money on him that is their choice and that may have been the case and I pray that is. My fear is He may have been like so many today, men that get into the pulpit and work the people for the money. I know one man that brazenly brags how he can draw money from the people. I have seen as many as five offerings taken in a service and most if not all that was received ended up in the pastors pocket. EdB |

New Creature It is just as well. Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. EdB |

Justme They do have a nack for stretching out the story. But once again I like to think of their value being that while people were/are reading them they are staying out of other trouble. ;-) EdB |

Justme I too like to read the Word, however I think we are in the minority. Most of the world would rather watch TV, see a movie or do most anything than read. If they do read they have a way of shunning any thing worth while. So while I'm not a great fan of the Left Behind series I would rather see my grandchildren reading that than watching Boy meets boy on TV. Also if you go to into any Christian Book store and look at the fiction section or in some cases the Christian Living section you will see books that contain so much lousy theology they shouldn't be allowed in a Christian Book store and won't have been twenty years ago. 8251 | Seven Church "ages"? Is it scriptural? | Revelation | EdB | 96104
John While I agree with you to a great extent I thinkk there remains some merit when viewed as effecting the whole church. In 30-100AD the WHOLE church was exposed to this. Today there are areas that such conditions don't face the church although I will say they are very few and very far between. Also the time period of 100AD to 314AD effected the whole church not just in certain areas like today. We certainly can't say we face persecution although some Christians who would like to think it is religious persecution not their obnoxious personalies that get them into trouble. Once again as far as today's church it almost universally enjoys a life with little care. Again there is no denying there are situations where the church struggles but life in general is a struggle in most of those places also. So what is taking place to the church not an exception casued by their belief but rather the rule caused by political and economic existing situations. As for the Phildelphia era your right the USA was very much involved, but so was a good part of Europe, South America, Australia, and even some areas of Asia. While your right this teaching has no real Biblical basis the idea has the same basis as the Preterist, Futurist, or Spiritualist views of Revelation. These four ideas are compared in an excellent work tittled "Revelation Four Views" Edited by Steve Gregg and published by Nelson EdB |

8253 | Seven Church "ages"? Is it scriptural? | Revelation | EdB | 96106
John Forgot to mention the Historic view can be seen in the works of Anselm of Havelberg 1129-1155, in Robert of Deutz 1111-1129, later Joachim of Flois 1130-1201 and it seemed to be the favorite view of Marin Luther 1500 all long before the church in America was really a factor. In fact Historisism is considered the approach to Revelations of the Reformation and the Preterist view championed by the Jesuits was forward as a defense to that teaching. EdB |

8254 | Sequence of events in Rev 14 and 20 ? | Revelation | EdB | 110128
Emmy Something tells me your questions is birthed in something other than your curiosity. Could this be homework? Or better yet would you tell us what generated these questions? The reason I ask is the answer to these question require more yes no or abc cba. There are various schools of thought on the rapture, tribulation and etc. To place these events in any order without offering an explanation would do you and the events a great disservice. EdB |

8255 | guiding principles to Revelation | Revelation | EdB | 129328
Since the Book of Revelation is considered prophecy I give you some guidlelines I came across a few years ago that have served me well. Sorry I can not provide where I got this. 7 RULES REGARDING PROPHECY. 1. Understand prophecy as history written before hand. 2. Give the same meaning to words of prophecy as you do words of history. 3. Do not seek hidden meanings. 4. Do not think prophecy must be fulfilled before it can be understood. 5. Do not interpret God's own interpretation of anything in prophecy. 6. Take all prophecy literally unless it is clear that you can't have a literal meaning. Then get the literal truth conveyed by the figurative language. 7. Let the Bible be it's own interpreter. |

Reighnskye I see someone else gave you some examples. Revelations is a very hard book to get your arms around just reading through it. It must be studied and studied hard. When I study prophecy such as the Book of Revelation I try to apply these seven principals. 7 Rules regarding prophecy. 1. Understand prophecy as history written before hand. 2. Give the same meaning to words of prophecy as you do words of history. 3. Do not seek hidden meanings. 4. Do not think prophecy must be fulfilled before it can be understood. 5. Do not interpret God's own interpretation of any thing in prophecy. 6. Take all prophecy literally unless it is clear that you can't have a literal meaning. Then get the literal truth conveyed by the figurative language. 7. Let the Bible be it's own interpreter. I think if you will study the Book appling these principals you will be able to answer many of your questions for yourself. EdB |

8260 | John | Revelation | EdB | 235943
Internal and historical evidence points to John the apostle as the author. John was one of Jesus’ original twelve disciples, chosen personally by Jesus to follow and learn from him. John also wrote one of the NT Gospels (the Bible’s four narrative accounts of Jesus’ life) and three other NT letters (see introductions to John’s Gospel and 1, 2 and 3 John). Other church leaders of the late first and early second centuries support the belief that John is the author. For example, Irenaeus verifies that Polycarp (Irenaeus knew Polycarp, and Polycarp knew the apostle John) spoke about John writing Revelation near the end of Domitian’s reign as Roman emperor (A.D. 81-96).
