8101 | musical instruments or not? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 11009
Norrie your right it does seem like legalism, but understand God does make certain demands on others we are not aware of. We must respect and adhere to Romans 14:4 "Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand." That is why I told the questioner to ask his pastor, if the pastor holds a deep conviction in his heart that this is what God wants for this church then the he needs to know it and either get on board and support it or find another church. |

8102 | musical instruments or not? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 11001
You need to ask the Pastor this question. Some of us know that there are churches that do not hold with musical instruments. But unless you ask your Pastor and hear his explaination you do not know his heart on the matter. You need to know his heart if he is to be effective in pastoring you. You also have to have enough trust and confidence that he will give you truthful and correct answer. You need to know if you can receive from this Pastor. Whether your church holds to instruments or not really will have no effect on your salvation, but the fact you can or can not receive from your pastor may. Talk to your pastor.

Appleseed I'm sorry for any perceived sarcasm, I was simply trying to show how wrong the statement was that we have the same authority as Jesus. I am trying to be helpful you are living where I once walked and by the grace of God I had my eyes opened before it destroyed me. I believed similar to you, that all I had to do was ask anything and God would run over and do it. God is not a car hop, God is not at our beck and call, God is sovereign, majestic, and supreme and until you get a grip on that concept you are open for deception. I deal with people after the they come crashing down and I try to pick them up and show them God didn’t fail, what failed was what they were told. I have seen people as they get hit between the eyes when they get the call that their son or daughter is in jail accused of shooting a drug dealer and their lives crumple. Or worst yet their son or daughter is lying in the ER and they might just get there before they die. The first question out of their mouths is, ”How can this be happening, I thought… where is God in all of this …” Don’t tell me we have the same authority as Jesus until you have held the bloody head of a dead nine year old and tried to explain to her mother God is still the throne. Or sit in the living room with the parents of a SID baby who is lying there between you, and can’t be moved until the coroner arrives. Trying to explain to them why they couldn’t bind Satan from touching their child, why what they heard on TV didn’t work. That God loves them and that God cares. God is sovereign, He is not ordered by anything or anyone. He does what He desires, and He brings things into our lives and takes things out of our lives as He sees fit. Always for our good but not always to our liking. You said let’s agree to disagree and if that is how you want it I will more than comply. However I will not stand idly by if you make statements that might mislead others. I don’t enjoy picking up broken pieces. I only wish I could help you see God for how wondrous He really is, how marvelous and how sovereign. Your in my prayers Ed |

8106 | When a prophet? | Nahum | EdB | 10967
Actually Jonah was afraid to go to Nineveh. They had probably one of the most cruelest civilizations known to man. If a person went there and said something the king found objectionable that person would be put to death in one of three most horrible ways. I won’t go into details but let me say it took days and from the word go it was not pleasant. Their hideous tortures were world renowned and I’m sure Jonah when God gave Jonah the opportunity (?) to bring correction to the city, that he viewed the whole thing as a rotten idea and a lousy way to die. I know getting thrown overboard was preferable, however I imagine somewhere between the second and third day in the digestive system of the fish probably changed his mind. Ed |

Bravo! You are truly a scholar and a gentleman. It was a pleasure to discuss this with you and I hope soon to explore another equally interesting issue with you. Thanks for your kindness, your genuine interest, and thanks most of all for your patience in teaching me your point of view. I know I grew from this and I hope you benefited also. I look forward to your offer to look up Paul and get it from him first hand. Be blessed and be a blessing Listening for the trumpet! Ed |

8110 | Why Babylon to punish righteous Israel? | Habakkuk | EdB | 10922
Fantastic answer Fatherchuck, I would like to add there is something we need to keep in find. When Israel went into captivity even the righteous among them suffered. Daniel and the three Hebrew children, who from the book of Daniel we know were righteous, were forced into slavery and made eunuchs. We as people can not just ignore the our antics of our leaders and say let God deal with them. The leaders in Israel is what lead Israel on the road to decline read 1 and 2 Kings. Ed |

8111 | Who is the 'lady'? | 2 John | EdB | 10921
Steve It is a the same word both places but that word has many meanings. One use could mean chosen and the other a favorite. I'm not trying to defend my theory, I just know when I read that passage Mary and Jesus' brothers and sisters jumped into my mind. I saw this as a warning against opportunist that would say we have credibility we just came from Mary or Jesus’ brother Jude. Much like authors do today by including other well known personalities pseudo reviews of their books on the cover of it. It is not worth, nor am I willing, to go to the stake over this. Just a thought Ed |

8112 | Tell me who unties them? | Matt 18:18 | EdB | 10918
Appleseed, you have the same authority as Jesus? Okay turn a little water into wine, you don't have to show me just tell you how it tasted. You have the same authority as Jesus go down to the local cemetery pick a name and call the person forth, I don’t have to be there just tell me their reaction. Jesus was telling a parable about servants which at that time were given authority to run affairs of business in their Masters domain. They didn’t have the same authority they only had authority to do what was needed to successfully carry out day to day life. For instance they could not order the death of another slave. They could not decide to sell the masters property. They could not sleep with the master wife (as seen in the story of Joseph and Potiphar). God is sovereign and to even assume we have that same authority as Jesus clearly tells me you have no idea of how awesome He really is. Could you even imagine the chaos we as humans would cause if we had anywhere near the power of God. One of us would be trying to get the world to spin backwards as another would shut up the clouds as another would be calling forth long lost loved ones. My friend we have authority to use the name of Jesus which carries power over demons but we certainly don’t have the same authority as Jesus. He knew better than to give us that. Ed |

8115 | What are the Methodists up to? | Numbers | EdB | 10893
This should not surprise anyone. About five years ago the Methodist women’s ministry hosted a conference dealing with the Goddess of wisdom (I can not recall the name they gave her). They formulated this idea from the book of Proverbs where wisdom is referred to in feminine gender. At the conference attended by a large number (I can not recall the actual number but I believe it to be in the thousands) of Methodist women they set an agenda to do just this. Modify Methodist material to pay homage to this goddess and the feminine gender. They concluded the conference serving communion of milk and honey. I was further mortified to find out some of the participants were in fact topless.
8116 | What kind of whale swallowed Jonah? | Jonah | EdB | 10884
Nolan We're getting serious with this question? :-) Oh Okay! Then the answer must be a Jewfish. A Jewfish so named for their insatiable hunger for Jews. I don’t know about you but I’m having great fun with this. Okay I repent I'll be good! Ed |

8118 | Who is the 'lady'? | 2 John | EdB | 10873
This is going to make JVH0212 go ballistic. But let me add my two cents. Since Jesus put John in charge of His mother Mary's welfare and since church history has John taking care of Mary in Ephesis after his release from the Isle of Patmos. Could the 'Chosen' woman be Mary mother of Christ and he is warning her and her children of men that would profit from being able to say they were welcomed by Mary the mother of Jesus or one of Jesus brothers and sisters? |

8119 | and the word was God | John 1:14 | EdB | 10868
Norrie it is a great explanation but it falls short. Unlike the Trinity a drop of water can not exist in all three states at the same time as the Trinity does. In Mark 1:8-11 we see Jesus, the Holy Spirit descending like a dove, and The Father’s voice saying “this is my Son in whom I am well pleased. Trying to explain the infinite to a finite mind of man is impossible. All our explanations fall short of the glory of God. We have to believe and accept by faith.
8120 | Is "pleading the blood" scriptural? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 10864
I learned something I never knew, that this term was contributed to Pentecostals only. I have heard and used it repeatedly and never thought about it. No it is not in the Bible and to me it is nothing more than a statement of my position in Christ. I am under the blood, therefore when something negative comes up in my life I plead the blood or verbally reinforce my position in Christ, that Jesus has given me the victory and what shall I fear for greater is He (Jesus) who is in me than he who is the world. When I do this I receive a peace and I'm comforted that I'm not along, but He is with me and sticks closer than a brother. |
