Third paragraph the "we" should read "he". As in why he didn't address the question to the books publisher.
282 | Does the Cepher have Family Records? | Bible general | EdB | 243376
Before everyone goes after me perhaps you need to understand what the Cepher is. It is book that basically disagrees with the canon of both the Old and New Testament. It includes books like the Book Jasher, Enoch and other books that aren't considered canonical. It also modifies most accepted translations claiming it is true to the original manuscripts, however the accepted translations have been widely accepted as authentic translations some have stood for hundreds of years. This "book" is published by a publisher other than Lockman, so I was more than a little curious as why we didn't address his question to "books" publisher since they would surely know what their "book" contains. It was if he was using the Lockman funded StudyBible forum to advertise an another publishers work. SPAM? Now after all the furor generated over it I would say he was successful. |

Justme I apologized to WamYah for my response. When I first read his question I thought it was an attempt to add credibility to a false book. I reacted incorrectly and I apologized. I ask your forgiveness for my ill manner behavior. |

284 | The sign of the times | 2 Tim 3:1 | EdB | 243369
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2Â For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Â unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4Â traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5Â having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6Â For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7Â always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Having a form of godliness but denying its power. I believe most of this is done today by denying the ability of the Holy Spirit to move as sovereign God, by defining what the Holy Spirit can and can not do according to their intellect and man's logic. |

285 | Founded on the Rock is Testable | Matt 7:25 | EdB | 243368
Problem is many can seemingly be in accord with both credal test and the moral test and still be false. Many deflect worship from God to Creeds or Theology, in an effort to further their agenda. They claim the are God's agents but in fact the are the agents of a philosophy the rings true to THEIR intellect or logic. They have their favorite scripture passages that seemingly support their position but to accept their teaching one must ignore overall premise of scripture. Likewise they have learned to rebuke any passage that disagrees with their agenda. They use such arguments as this word doesn't really mean this or that, when we take this passage in light of the society of the time it really means this or that. To accept the passage at face value is an afrront to man's intellect or logic. In other words they, using their intellect and logic, define God and if anyone worships God that does not fit to their definition then that person is wrong. This is explained by tearing down the nature of the person. 2 Cor. 11:4 |

286 | family in heaven | Rev 21:4 | EdB | 243366
Lionstrong Your proof text Luke 16:27 is talking of a person in Sheol not a person in heaven. I believe we will know our relatives that are in heaven as you proved citing Matt 17:3. But I thought the question was would we in heaven know of our loved ones that aren't there but in the Lake of Fire. I think that would cause us distress and we are assured heaven will be stress free Rev 21:4 |

287 | God Prepares His Own for the Best | 1 Sam 2:6 | EdB | 243365
This is the worst exegesis of 1 Sam 2:6 I have ever read. Read this passage in context and see if you an make the connection Luther imagined was there. What loving father destroys the hope of his child to teach them he is father provider? 1 Sam 2:6 is simply confirming God held the keys of death before He gave them to Jesus. It was part of the prayer Hannah prayed when she fulfilled the her oath to God. She is reassuring herself of the power of God and His promise of resurrection. |

288 | Hyper calvinism and Backsliding? | Bible general | EdB | 243363
Hebrew 6 doesn't skirt around the issue. Itclearly says a person can lose their salvation. And if they do there is no return for them. Now if someone wants to change the meaning of the words spoken in this passage they can but scripture is very clear on that too. Rev 22:18. I don't see the mystery. And I also fail to understand why Calvinist are worried about it. Live life holy and trust in Jesus for your salvation and there is no problem. The problem only comes when you teach you can live as the world and grace will save you because you were chosen. Such non sense! |

289 | Disciplined Study of the Word | Prov 17:7 | EdB | 243360
Paul establish his credibility saying you know us and how we live among you. Lifestyle must be judged and if a person's lifestyle does not support what he teaches something is radically wrong. 1 Thess. 1:5 Many past so called theologians lived a lifestyle contrary to the very scripture they "tried" to explain. Can their teaching be trusted? Scripture suggests not! |

290 | Disciplined Study of the Word | Prov 17:7 | EdB | 243359
Scripture says we will know them by their fruit as their fruit becomes more evident that they are inventing theology instead of properly handling truth should they not be called out? Many that proclaim to be theologians but have little or no training in theology, do other things than study theology and scripture, and are known to be wordsmiths. They often want to establish theology that contradicts the word of God. Citing man's intellect, man's logic to explain God, when in fact God has already said man can not explain God. To reveal this their lives education (lack there of) their lifestyle must be revealed to show they are not qualified to teach, let alone form theology. Revelation 22:19 |

291 | Out of the Heart... It's Observable! | Ps 119:49 | EdB | 243358
Doesn't this contradict once saved always saved? If the temple is holy and God walks there how can it become polluted with sin, as in putting swine into God's temple? Or is the author saying you can be filled with sin and still be saved? Hebrews 12:14 Sounds like he is agreeing with Hebrews 6 discussion on backsliding. Too many worry about strange fire when in fact there is no fire at all. Jesus said He rather we be hot or cold but promised to reject the lukewarm. The people with no fire, maybe a few smothering sparks, but no fire. Acts 7:51 |

292 | How history sees our lives | Matt 16:26 | EdB | 243355
Two Figures Found in Pompeii There were two figures found in Pompeii when it was unearthed many years ago. One of them was a Roman sentinel. He was standing erect in his place at the gate of the city. His spear was in his burned hand, his sword at his side. His helmet was still on his head. There the ashes had embalmed him, and kept him through all the long, long years. This disaster that reigned down on the city of Pompeii did not put this Roman soldier at the place of duty, and keep him there faithful and true. It only photographed him for us. It only found him in the attitude of faithfulness, and preserved him to be found bearing this testimony. “Moreover, it is [essentially] required of stewards that a man should be found faithful [proving himself worthy of trust]†(1 Corinthians 4:1, The Amplified Bible). There was another body found. It was that of a woman. Her feet were turned toward the city gate. Evidently she was fleeing with all her might to escape the terrible destruction that was engulfing the city. But though her feet were toward the gate, her body was turned backward. Her hands were outstretched toward the ground. Just beyond her finger tips was a bag of pearls. Possibly she had dropped them. Possibly they had been dropped by someone else, and she had spotted them as she fled. She could not shake off their appeal, causing her to turn to pick them up, and the lava came down and embalmed her. But this disaster did not place her in that attitude of grasping covetousness. It only photographed her, so that the future generations might see. “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?†(Matthew 16:26) David Arnold Morning Muse David Arnold ministries. |

293 | Who speaks the truth? | James 3:13 | EdB | 243354
Many "theologians" have written many works of theology. Some are touted as being more accurate than others. Many come from different sides of the street, and since they are contrary they both can not be right. We must judge which to accept and which to reject or at least hold in suspect. When we look at the person of these commentators we see some that have dedicated their entire lives to serving God. Others we see have backgrounds in everything but religion. How can this be? We see men that constantly read and study scripture. Bathing themselves in prayer in a constant search for the truth and we see others have all manner of livelihood even being political and aspiring to higher office and recognition. Which should we grasp too? Let James 3:13 be our guide! |

Calvin right side of mouth - here is evidence against Servetus, letters he wrote me. Calvin left side of mouth - more words of how God in us. Calvin right side of mouth - you have Servetus? Burn him. James 3:11-12 11Â Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12Â Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh. |

296 | Ears Covered So as Not to Hear | Job 36:12 | EdB | 243350
Is this Calvins definition or one that was applied to a certain group of people. the definition of Enthusiasts that I'm familiar with is closer to zealot or one completely sold out to God. |

297 | Ears Covered So as Not to Hear | Job 36:12 | EdB | 243345
This would have been more edifying had you included Calvin’s definition of Enthusiasts without it we don’t know if Calvin is talking of those that deny the Word of God or simply deny the word of man. Throughout history man has attempted to define, explain, and marginalize God. Some do it as deceived pawns of the adversary while others believe their intellect, their logic, their ability to communicate is so superior to mere man, that they must for man’s sake make known to man what God really meant. Though they are quick to deny it they usually have an agenda, a motive and have so convinced others of their great abilities they are given the soap boxes. Men that constantly seek the leading of the Holy Spirit, dedicate their entire lives to prayer and the study of the word are often ignored and looked down upon as not having such rich mental abilities, faulty logic or being deceived by the adversary. What Prophet speaking for Gold was ever given the audience that many that tickle the ear are given to explain, define and marginalize God and holiness are given. 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NASB) but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." |

299 | Confusion about trying to be holy | Rom 12:1 | EdB | 243343
Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. There seems to be confusion between trying to earn salvation through righteous living and being saved and trying to walk in Holiness. Through the generations men have invented words to describe what they fail to understand, usually in derogatory terms. Salvation can not be earned; it is freely given by grace to all that rely on Jesus Christ for their salvation. However Christians are called to walk in obedience, righteousness and holiness as much as our sin tainted world will allow. Are we perfect? No! Not by a long shot but our advocate, Jesus Christ, in heaven makes intercession to cover our imperfections. But that does not open the door to living as if nothing we do, nothing we think affects our relationship with Christ. Scripture repeatedly tells us to be lead of the Holy Spirit but when this is attempted many that fail to seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit stand back and mock. Yet scripture tells us Romans 8:1 (NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. |

300 | The Utter Uselessness of Pietism | Gal 3:3 | EdB | 243340
What the author seems to miss is the fact that there is a vast difference between trying perfect oneself and obedience to walk in holiness. We can only be made acceptable to God by the blood of Jesus. But we are also called to walk in holiness. This is often confused with pietism by those that would rather live neglecting the call to holiness. This is far different than what the Galatians were doing. They were trying to gauge their acceptability to God by their holiness. This is far different than walking in obedience toward holiness. True both require self effort but the Galatians were trying to base salvation on works where the other is walking in obedience to Christ's call to us to be holy. |
