21 | Who are the "sons of God?" | OT general | Burning Bush | 44738
n2deep, This is long so hold on. A phrase with 3 meanings. 1)Job1:6 and 2:1 is used for angelic beings or non-human. Satan appears with them but is not one of them. 2) N.T.--Appears as a name for the people who are in a covenant relationship with GOD.This exact phrase never appears in the O.T., although the idea is implied. Isa43:6,45:11,GOD refers to the children of Isreal, whom he promised to gather together as sons and daughters. Rom 8:12-19, Gal 4:5,Heb 2:10,12:7. The process is described as one of adoption by which believers become a child of GOD. Other passages use the phrase children of GOD with the same basic meaning. Jn 1:12, Phil 2:15, 1Jn 3:1-2. 3)- Gen 6:1-4 The contxt of these verses gives important clues that the " sons of GOD" in this case are not angelic beings. One clue is found in the total biblical text. Nowhere else in the Bible is there even a hint that a non-human and humans can mate. There are many parallels in pagan thought, but not in biblical thought. 2nd clue occurs in the passage its self. The Hebrew verb in verse 2 translated "took them wifes" is the standard verb in the Old Testament for marriage. In the N.T.,Jesus states, that angels do not marry (Matt 22:30

26 | baptismal regeneration - true or false | NT general Archive 1 | Burning Bush | 51597
New creature, Thank you for this thought provoking question. I hope this will help. I have a PC study bible on my computer and this is the answer it gave.Regeneration, the initial gift of life in Christ is, in the church's normal system, associated with the sacrament of baptism. The basis for this teaching and practice of the church is found primarily in Our Lord's discourse to Nicodemus-Jn 3:1-8, where in the new birth is associated not only with the quickening spirit but with the element of water. The Saviour's words, literally translated are as follows"Except one be born (out) of water and spirit (ex hudatos kai pneumatos gennoamai), he connot enter into yhe the kingdom of god.

36 | Consuming alcoholic beverages: ok or not | Deut 14:26 | Burning Bush | 60942
tepridemore, There are so many verses that talk about drinking. Pro.20:1, Isa.5:11,22,Rom.14:21. You can look up these and come up with your own conclusion. From a personal point, God delivered me from 17 years of alcoholism.Anytime people drink, for the most part, their mind is being altered. This gives ways to the powers of darkness. Jesus said to stay away from any appearance of evil. You have seen with your own eyes what drink can do, am I right? Teach your children to be holy and righteous. Let them stay as pure as possible. The bible does not say that drinking a glass of wine is bad.Why give satan a foothold when you have the choice to serve God with all your spirit, soul and body. This is just my point of view and I hope and pray that God leads you into all truths. BB

38 | Is that Jesus in an O.T. appearance ? | Josh 5:14 | Burning Bush | 63738
Constantin, This is rather long . Christ is revealed in Joshua in three ways: by direct revelation, by types, and by illuminating aspects of his nature. In 5:13-15, the triune God appeared to Joshua as the "Commander of the army of the Lord." By His appearence, Joshua was made aware that God Himself was in charge. It was Joshua's task, as ours, not so much to follow the Commander's plan as to know the Commander. We need to be on His side , not He on ours.A type is a symbol, an object lesson. Types can be found in a person, in religious ritual, even in historical events. Joshua himself was a type of Christ. His name, which means "Yahweh Is Salvation," is a Hebrew equivalent to the Greek " Jesus,". Joshua led the Isrealites into the possession of their promised inhertiance, just as Chirst leads us into possession of eternal life. One of the aspects of Christs's nature reveled in Joshua is that of fulfilled promise. At the end of his life, Joshua testifies, " not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your god spoke concerning you. (23:14) God, in His grace and faithfulness, has sustained and perserved His people by bringing them out of the wilderness and into the Land of Promise. He will do the same for us through Christ, who is the promise.

40 | Character from childhood | Proverbs | Burning Bush | 59925
lialia1212, The bible say's to train up your child in the way he should go and as he is old he will not depart from it. The spoken word of any language can build up or cut down. Jesus used words to build up and to rebuke for the building up of one's character when you need to be corrected. If we as parents speak Godly things to our children from a young age they will grow up beliving Godly things. Why would we want to hinder our children with negative words when God spoke positive things to us.
