Have you ever heard a parent say to their arguing child: "I'm right, because I'm your father(mother) and I said I'm right, now quit arguing." In any form of government, we need a leader and that leader needs to be able to make a final decision and then everyone can move forward from that point. Just as the parent above (and being a parent is a form of government - some say a democracy, some say a dictatorship) - just as the parent above, there is a time for discussion and debate, which the Church allows, and then the time comes in which a final decision needs to be made, so the familly can function as one, instead of living in the seperation created by constant arguing and challenging of each other. Someone in a family must be a leader and the other members of the family must accept that person. The acceptance of that person as the leader may be called by some, as submission. Other may call it trust in the leader of the family. Some may accept that persons leadership out fo humility and some may accept that persons leadership and decisions on the basis that they know the leader is only concerned about making the right decision for the good of the family. The Pope is the leader of a Church. The Pope is a man. The Pope is not God. The Pope is a man. When making a decision, we are hopeful that the Pope is seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit, in the same way a congregation is hoping that their Pastor is seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit. In this forum, there has been discussion regarding the responsibility a Bible class teacher has to his/her students. If the teacher is not teaching God's law properly, the teacher is doing a grave injustice to the student, who is relying on this knowledge and guidance to properly serve God. The role of the Church is to insure proper understanding of God's law in order to properly educate its members. Look at all of the different Churches which have been formed by people leaving the Catholic Church and think of all of the time and energy spent fighting the Church as the enemy. The Church is not the enemy, Satan is. Focus your hatred and distaste towards the true enemy and unite with those who are fighting the same enemy as you. Satan is successful in dividing the House of Jesus among itself and keeping everyone's attention on infighting, rather than on him. I realize that the members of this forum are dedicated and commited to God. Would we not have done a better job of serving God if we had taken the 100-200 man hours spent here debating Papal infallibility and instead, spent this time serving God, by reaching out to our fellow man to fight Satan. Aren't we falling into Satans trap of dividing our house to fight to other, instead of fighting Satan. Luke 11: 17-18 17: Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18: If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? Today, we are seeing the birth of a new sin - probably the greatest sin ever tempting man - taking the life of an unborn baby and selling it for a profit to prolong the life of another. Who will join this Catholic in fighting Satan on this sin rather than debating each other on who is the better Christian. Can we unite our house of Christianity to serve God? Is anybody up for a really good fight? - Let me know. |

Every Church has a form of government, whether it's a local pastor or a national council. These are the people who are in charge - here on earth. |

Some call it submission Some call it humility Some call it infallibility Some call it trust On the day the decision was made, I trust the Pope has made a decision in the best interest of the Church. Would the Popes decision be different if it was made a month, year or century later, maybe. Is it better that the Church corrects an error or allows the error to remain, in order to avoid criticism? |

By the time that Peter assumed the leadership role of the Church, he was a Christian. There is no mandate that the leader of the Catholic church be Jewish. |

I am quoting this because I am not the enemy. If you only listen to what you want to hear, you will miss a great deal of wisdom that can be found from the other people within this forum. In addition to a better understanding of God, you have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of your fellow man. I have found my understanding of my fellow man actually helps me, better understand God and Jesus. My ministry is the sick and dying. Hearing what these people think and feel as they prepare for death has enabled me to understand the teachings of Jesus more than I could ever have hoped for. And not out of fear of death, because I don't fear death - but out of seeing living, breathing examples of what Jesus has tried to teach us. Again, I am not the enemy and maybe we can learn from each other. |

2 Timothy 43 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. |

I'm afraid I wasn't clear in my definition. It does not say that the Pope is without error or failure It says if he is wrong or perceived as being worng - his decision will still be accepted - because his decision is made with good intentions. He will be given the benefit of doubt. |

Number 1, 2 and 3 The full answer to these questions - the proof you are seeking - is a very long answer, which does not lend itself to this forum and in reality, I don't know if I am the person that can give you the full proof you seek. I will answer your questions, but please allow me the right to summarize in places, and accept some of my discussion as having a foundation. John Paul II (1978 to present), our current Pope is the 265th, with Peter (years 32 to 67) being the first. The second Pope, Linus (67 to 76 or 79), is thought to be the same Linus, Timothy refered to in 2 Timothy 4:21. The Church recognizes 30 antipopes. An antipope is a false claimant of the Holy See in opposition to a pontiff canonically elected. First, why Rome for the location of the Church. Peters final years were spent in Rome, or more specifically, in an area known as Ager Vaticanus. This area did not belong to ancient Rome, nor was it built within the walls of Rome. This is were Peter died and was buried. This simply became the physical center of the Church. When Peter lead the Church, he created a Senate consistng of 24 priests and deacons - this is documented. One of the roles of this Senate was to elect the new Pope - with Linus being the first Pope elected by men. Over time, the Senate structure while having taken different shapes - has remained constant. Keep in mind, Peter gave formal organizational structure to the Church. This is important, because this is the correcting factor when the office of the Pope was occupied by a man who was more interested in this world, than in heaven. It is through this election of the Pope by the Senate (College of Cardinals), this formal organization created by Peter, which enables us to discern who the properly elected pontiffs were as opposed to the antipopes, who, at the same time, were claiming the Church. How do we know Peter was choosen by Jesus to head his Church. Three reasons: first, Matthew 16:17-19, And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church Second: In numerous references within the Bible, when Jesus spoke to the Apostles as a group, He directed His conversation to Peter Mathew 26:40 - And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? Third, on various occasions Peter speaks in the name of the other Apostles (Matthew 15:15; 19:27; Luke 12:41, etc.). Then Peter said to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?" Is there anyplace in the Bible where Jesus flat out said 'Peter - your the first Pope', no. It is not the strength or depth of the discussion between Jesus and Peter, it is the fact that it was Peter acting as the representative head of the Apostles with Jesus. Did Jesus intend for Peter to be the head of the Church, or did Peter just assume this role. I believe Jesus selected Peter. |

393 | Evangelicals and Catholics | Rom 3:28 | Brian.g | 12426
Number 5 Infallibility is: Exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. Like the father of a family, the authority of the father is absolute. His wife and children may discuss and debate with him, but when the final decision of the father is made and that decision is truly made in the best interest of the family, then his decision must be accepted and followed. When the decision is made out of love and commitment to his family, then there will be no wrong decisions made, there will be no decisions which the family cannot accept. The father will be accorded the respect of infallibilty - the exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. We, as members of the Church, must humble ourselves to understand and believe that the man choosen as the successor to Peter is a good and honorable man committed to Gods law and that his decisions are made with the best interest of the Church, her members and in accordance with God's law. He must also be accorded the same respect of infallibility - the exemption or immunity from liability to error or failure. |

394 | I guess I'm asking because... | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 12276
At this point, I feel it is important to address some basic issues. First, why does the Church exist - to insure that God's law is taught properly in order to enable men and women entry into heaven. Second - why does Church leadership exist - these are the people entrusted with the responsibility to insure that God's laws are being taught exactly, as God intended. This is their sacred responsibility. When teaching a Bible class, the teacher has the responsibility to be sure they are teaching Gods law exactly as God intended or they are doing a disservice to the students. Jesus taught many disciples and then picked the original 12 Apostles from his following and later selected an additional 72 disciples, again from a larger number. These were the men Jesus entrusted to teach the word of God - Jesus did not pick every person - only a select few. Acting upon their responsibility, today's Church leaders have the same responsibility to insure that today's teachers also are well choosen for the task. Subsequently, the Church leaders, have not only the right, but the responsibility to the STUDENT, to insure the teacher is properly qualified to teach. Can Church leaders ever make a mistake or error in judgement - yes, all humans can. What is the responsibility of the Church members to complying with decisions of the Church leaders. There will be many times in which the members will disagree with the Church leaders. However, the leaders of the Church have the responsibility of insuring Gods laws are taught properly. The members must be humble when they disagree and accept the ultimate decision of the Church leader. The members must understand that the Church leaders are not acting out of malice, but according to the responsibility which they have accepted. |

395 | Does everyone have discernment? | Is 27:11 | Brian.g | 11737
There are two types of discernment. The first being a gift from God for a selected few, in the same manner in which other natural attributes are gifts from God. Being a fine and natural athlete, musician, mathematician and so on. I knew a man who had received this gift and had the ability to accurately understand obscure issues and was often described as 'rounding third base and heading home, while everyone else was just getting to first base.' But,this man while being a good man, had little true understanding - or desire to understand God. The second discernment is also a gift, but is available for all men, through the grace of God, but you must prepare yourself in order to receive it. In this second type, we are given the ability to understand the whole meaning of the Bible, not only the words. But the depths and breadths of the meanings and how the different passages relate to each other to create a complete and total understanding of the Bible as one single text of our relationship with God and about God. You will understand that the Bible no longer becomes a collection of individual phrases, passages, stories, letters and writings. But a single, seamless living document of God. And like God, it has no beginning or end. You will understand that each individual part will be as one with the others. And that you can no longer just pick a single individual passage and use it as a sword to justify a position, because you will now understand that the full truth is in the whole relationship with God. As I said, you must prepare yourself to receive this gift from God. Before all else, pray to God for guidance in your quest for understanding. Trust that God will then be with you. First and foremost is humility. How can the Holy Spirit guide you into understanding the full depth of the meaning when you have closed the door by proclaiming that you already posses full knowledge. Trust God. Be mature and receptive enough to accept that your original interpretations or single dimensional understandings may not be the full and complete message. Trust God to be truthful with you. Be patient, God will help you understand in a manner and at a pace which He knows is best for you. Trust God. |

396 | Eggs for cash: Help! | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 11506
A suggestion on handling this situation... Your niece, like many people, is having trouble recognizing that her egg is the life of her future children and her future family. Second, I'm guessing that her relationship with God is a little bit on the weak side. Any Biblical quotes given to her will fall upon deaf ears and solidify her stance against you. I would suggest taking a step backward and reach out to her on a her level of belief and gently guide her. Let her understand the magnitude of the situation by your questions and her answers. Guide the conversation to discuss, for example, parental relationships and responsibilities. For example, how does she feel about Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac at God's demand. How does she feel about Abraham not protecting his son? With her faith (or lack of) she will probably be in disbelief that Abraham (or any parent) would actually be ready to murder his own son - and for who? - God? She will probably think that Abraham must be some kind of nut, not willing to protect his own son! Ask her, would Abraham have been more justified in sacrificing his son for money? I think at this point you will get a soft 'no', as she begins to relate to the discussion. Then explain to her, that the seed within her is her future child and examine her responsibilities to that child. Guide the discussion along the path of what a parents responsibility is, with regard to protecting their children - and when does that parental protection begin - does she feel that a parent should be willing and even expected to sacrifice their own lives to protect their children. Let her answer that question. Give her food for thought. After she answers, ask her point blank, what do you think will happen to your children (not eggs) if you sell them - list her fairy tale answers as well as the probable answers - she will understand the list as it is being compiled. This will help make her understand the adult decision she is about to make. Then, maybe just some general discussion of her relationship with her parents. If it is good, then wouldn't she like to have the same with her children and aren't her children entitled to what she has had. If there is a poor relationship, then wouldn't she like a better one with her children. Everything that she would have wanted out of the relationship with her parents, she can achieve with her children. Remember, by gently guiding her today, you have the opportunity to help her preserve her body, lay the foundation for a postive future relationship with her children and you are helping her understand the family relationship which we have with God, our Father. You are now planting seeds for her future. Be patient and trust that the Holy Spirit will be with you and remember, only God is allowed to judge, not us. |

397 | Inherit the Kingsom of God | Rom 2:6 | Brian.g | 11396
A drunkard is today known as an alcoholic or, at the very least - a party animal. Being drunk, for an evening, will not prevent you from entering heaven. The thing that I think you may want to put a little bit more focus on, is the 'luke-warm Christian' part. Romans 2:6-8 6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. Remember, only God decides how 'warm' a Christian really is. |

398 | what does God think about marriage | Bible general Archive 1 | Brian.g | 11393
Paul's 'objections' to marriage is focused strictly and only at the disciples and Apostles, in order to dedicate their lives and energies to spreading the word of God. Paul felt marriage (wives and children) detracted these men from their total and complete service to God. For all others, Paul was an advocate of marriage. God has always intended for men and women to join each other in marriage. |

If I am in need, do I have the right to ask you to pray for me? And, will you then pray for me, if I ask. Are you not then interceding with God on my behalf. Are you not assisting me; as service to God. Do I not have the right to ask the Saints to pray for me? You must understand, the Saints are still living, only in heaven and not on earth. Do you feel that the Saints are not allowed to continue serving God in the same way they did while their bodies where alive, and in the same manner in which you will do for me? |

You, who have found God, are not the purpose of the Saints serving God. It is the lost lamb, those who have not found God, to whom the Saints are reaching out and in doing so, are continuing their service to God. |
