2961 | How do I obtain what I'm asking for? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 199983
Hello Davis, Here's what Oswald Chambers had to say about prayer. It remains one of my favorites: "Prayer alters CIRCUMSTANCES through me- It is only when a man flounders beyond any grip of himself and cannot understand things that he really prays. It is not part of the natural life of a man to pray. By “natural” I mean the ordinary, sensible, healthy, worldly-minded life. We hear it said that a man will suffer in his life if he does not pray; I question it. Prayer is an interruption to personal ambition, and no man who is busy has time to pray. What will suffer is the life of God in him, which is nourished not by food but by prayer. If we look on prayer as a means of developing ourselves, there is nothing in it at all, nor do we find that idea of prayer in the Bible. Prayer is other than meditation; it is that which develops the life of God in us. When a man is born from above (rv mg), the life of the Son of God begins in him, and he can either starve that life or nourish it. Prayer is the way the life of God is nourished. Our Lord nourished the life of God in Him by prayer; He was continually in contact with His Father. We generally look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves, whereas the Bible idea of prayer is that God’s holiness and God’s purpose and God’s wise order may be brought about, irrespective of who comes or who goes. Our ordinary views of prayer are not found in the New Testament. It is not so true that “Prayer changes things” as that prayer changes me, and then I change things; consequently we must not ask God to do what He has created us to do. For instance, Jesus Christ is not a social reformer; He came to alter us first, and if there is any social reform to be done on earth, we must do it. God has so constituted things that prayer on the basis of Redemption alters the way a man looks at things. Prayer is not a question of altering things externally, but of working wonders in a man’s disposition. When you pray, things remain the same, but you begin to be different." [Oswald Chambers, If Ye Shall Ask] I trust this will help, BradK |

2962 | just a question? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 200035
Hello nandi12, While I can empathize with your situation, the question really is outside the scope and boundaries of the Forum. As, such I wouldn't think it appropriate to even try and answer. It appears more like a possible medical/psychological issue. So, I'd highly encourage you to seek the advice of a doctor and other qualified medical provider. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2963 | GOD speaks,malachi and mathew,where? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 200784
Hello again, Norman, This period is referred to as "The Silence of God" and it lasted roughly 400 Years! Ray Stedman has an article available online that is good. Also, a book titled, "The Silence of God" by Sir Robert Anderson is a worthwhile read. If I can be of futher help, you're welcome to e-mail me from my address provided in my User Profile. 2964 | Book of Mark questions I have | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 200949
Hello robert, The questions you ask seem that they may be related to a class and/or test? Any decent Study Bible would provide the background detail you're seeking. The original Greek text would read, 'Kata Markon', "According to Mark". The central theme or message of Mark can be summarized by 10:45, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Mark essentially portrays Jesus as a Servant. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2966 | need question to ask my study group? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 201417
Hello junnei, Welcome to the Forum! Your question is very general? Is your group part of a local church? Do you have a Book of the Bible, or related Topic for your Study Group? I think before you ask a question, you need to decide WHAT it is you intend to study, i.e., what is the purpose or focus of your group? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2967 | this is question in my church bullitin. | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 201445
Hello sayamen, Welcome to the Forum. I know that the Mustard seed is the "smallest of all seeds on earth" (ESV Mark 4:31. Yet, I cannot find any references to "mosquito" (save The Message- Is. 18:1) in any translation of the Bible I checked (some 18). I'll have to defer to some of my more astute colleagues! 2968 | interpretive, literary techniques 2 sm11 | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 201848
Hello study girl, This sounds like a class assignment? Honestly, the interpretive issue for me was deciding if "2 sm11" (sic) was a reference to 2 Samuel 11:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2970 | Does suicide negate one's salvation? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 202847
Hello brh, Welcome to the Forum. There is much discussion on this topic, and suicide is indeed a sin- as is anything not of faith (Rom. 14:23)! I know of no such caveat in scripture that would "negate one's eternal salvation"- if they are truly born again. The question begs the corollary, "why would one who is truly saved and 'in Christ' (want to) commit suicide? I hope this helps, BradK |

2971 | Prophet touched on the rib by God? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 202970

2972 | Jesus uses questions where and how many | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 207127
Hello scrapmomma, The questions by Jesus alone are too numerous for me to tally- at least right now:-) The book, "All the Questions of the Bible" [Libronix] is an excellent resource on this topic. Most, if not all would be found in the Gospels. What I can tell you is this: Matt.- 177 Questions; Mark- 121 Questions; Luke- 165 Questions; John- 167 Questions A very high percentage of these were of course asked by Jesus. If you'd like more specifics, feel free to send me an e-mail. My address is under my User Profile. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2973 | What are 8 charastics of a shephard? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 207822
Hello Marcie, Your question sounds a lot like a homework assignment? Hint: Jesus gives at least 1 characteristic in John 10:11- "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep" :-) I hope this helps, BradK |

2974 | can divorce be initiated | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 208350
Hello Tim, Forgive me for stating this, but the question appears beyond the scope of the SBF! Is this a question asked in speculation or is it a real-life situation? The former is not really the purview of this Forum, and if the latter is the case, you'd be better to seek appropriate counsel of your pastor, and/or a qualified attorney! In Him, BradK |

2975 | stand up for what you believe | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 209429
Hello truth, Can you provide a more specific example of how "hyper-dispensationalist ashamed of admitting what they are?" I'm familiar with this theology, though I don't hold to such an extreme. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2976 | more than one gospel? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 209431
Hello truth, Without necessarily endorsing the view, the book by C.A Stam, "Things That Differ" would provide a first-hand summary of this view. Basically, they hold that the Gospel Jesus taught was under the Law and to Israel exclusively.(Matt 10: 5-6) Paul, as the apostle to the Gentiles (Rom.11:13), was revealed the "mystery"(Eph. 3:2-10) writes to those in the Body of Christ. The believer in the Body of Christ is not under the law (Ro. 6:4). They make a distinction between the Gospel of the Kingdom and the Gospel of the Grace of God. I hope this helps, BradK |

2977 | more than one gospel? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 209440
Hello truth, I'm well aware of what they teach. I've attended a couple ultra-dispensational churches in the past. I've read Stam, Bullinger, Welch, and O'Hair. I wouldn't call them heretical. They don't generally deny any of the essential doctrines and uphold Orthodoxy. But-as I see it- they focus on a fringe and major on splitting hairs. They are a minority when it comes to numbers and churches. I consider the WOF movement much more dangerous! Speaking the Truth in Love, Bradk |

2978 | stand up for what you believe | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 209458
Hello Truth, I've been among this crowd, so I know of what you speak and am aware of the extremes this framework can lead to. From my experience, oftentimes when we get labeled, we must then defend the label. So, I prefer to say, "ask me what I believe and I'll tell you". Sometimes, it depends on what side of the coin you're on- so to speak- as far as calling someone a "Hyper"-this or "Ultra"-that. I hope that makes sense? There's understanding to be had on both sides. Part of the problem may be that your "friends" don't really know or fully understand "what" they believe. If they did, they should be able to address the concerns. For me, the challenge became the dead-end. Once you learn all the "doctrines" and schemes, then what? I read just about everything I could, and ultimately, it lead me in circles, with the end being burnout. I lost interest in the "things of Christ" (Phil. 2:21) because I was seeking after knowledge. Knowledge became the quest- and it was empty after 8 years! It wasn't till a few years later- and after I came to the Church where we currently fellowship, that I regained my desire and passion for Christ! Much of that was additionally fueled by my involvment and fellowship right here on the SBF! It opened me to new horizons and study with other believers. I've since come to really embrace that we have much more in common in the essential doctrines of the faith than we do by splitting hairs through (Hyper)Dispensationalism! Our battle is spiritual (Eph. 6:12) and not with other believers who don't see the "Mystery"- if you know what I mean? I encourage you to stick around and learn and grow with us. I challenge you to become part of the solution:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2980 | Is the Holy Spirit ever feminine gender? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 210249
Hello SSC, There may be some input by ones more capable than myself on the gender references to the Holy Spirit in the Greek NT! However, I feel compelled to offer some well-intended advice not given lightly. 1. Why are you "studying" this book?; 2. I'd dimiss most of anything either one of them have to say- especially when it gets into the Greek NT! Both are VERY liberal in their theology. Campolo being basically a socialist, McLaren denying most (if not all)of the essential doctrines of Orthodox Christianity. (1 John 4:1-3) I strongly encourage you to run from this book my friend! Rather spend your time in study, prayer and meditation of God's Holy Word! You'll reap much benefit be so doing (Heb. 4:12) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
