2841 | question | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 151245
Hi jtvd, Thanks for being honest:-) I guess my advice as a former (and still student) is that it's always best to do one's own research first. Use or make available all resources at your disposal. Then when you've exhausted that, post a question. In posting to the SBF, let us know what your predicament is and where you are running into a snag, and you'll receive some sound direction (usually). Again, I hope this helps, BradK |

2842 | verse about Marijuana in the Bible | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 152356
Hi redhotmoon, The closest reference may be Gen. 1:11-12. Even at that, I wouldn't spend too much time looking, because you won't find it! There is simply no such scripture and the Bible in no ways talks about or endorses illicit drug use! Take it from a former "pot head", Jesus is the Prince of Peace! The only way you can find any such verse is to twist and bend the meaning of scripture to support it- and you'd have to work to do that! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2843 | Dead Sea Scrolls? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 154067
Hi Seedling, I'm no expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls, however I do have a resource titled, "The Dead Sea Scrolls and Modern translations of the OT" on my Libronix that may be of help. I'd be happy to e-mail you sections of in, if it would help. Here is a segment that may touch on your question: "THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS AND MODERN TRANSLATIONS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT Bible translators are faced not only with the issue of obtaining manuscript evidence from the Dead Sea Scrolls (and elsewhere) but also with how this evidence can actually be used in making new translations and/or revising old ones. The traditional assumption of most translators was that in general the best available avenue back to the “original text” of the Old Testament was through the Masoretic Text (MT). Nevertheless, translators have generally accepted the view that to a greater or lesser degree there are still problems in the Masoretic Text as preserved in the great medieval codices such as Codex Leningradensis, used as the basis of Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia and the Aleppo Codex, the basis of the “Hebrew University Bible Project.” In some cases difficult Hebrew constructions that puzzle modern translators were problematic for ancient translators as well. In such situations Ellington (1989:22–25) proposed a “consensus system” for making textual decisions by following the majority vote of five major modern translations: Revised Standard Version (RSV), New American Bible (NAB), Today’s English Version (TEV), New International Version (NIV), and the New Jewish Version (NJV). Osborn (1981) proposed a similar consensus approach. But this method, despite Ellington’s belief that it is an objective system, fails to take into account the fact that our understanding of the textual history of the Old Testament is being completely revised in light of the Dead Sea Scroll discoveries." I hope this helps, BradK |

2844 | Who build the mosque Kabah? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 156113
Cleanelements, "Who build (sic) the mosque Kabah" is not a biblical question. That is, it's answer cannot be found in the pages of the Bible. As this is a Study Bible Forum, it's proper to ask questions that relate directly to the Bible. I hope this helps, BradK |

2845 | Please explain Chapter 10 - verses 16-20 | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 157247
Hi Karen, Since I don't know our background, here are some general tips. I would read and re-read the passage, if possible from several different translations. Take particular note of the context! Who's speaking, who's being spoken to and what is being spoken about. Also, there are a number of good online resources such as crosswalk.com. there are serveral Commentaries available that should aid you. Here are some basic principles of Biblical interpretation from CARM.org that hoprefully will be useful: Biblical Interpretation The Bible is God’s Word. But some of the interpretations derived from it are not. There are many cults and Christian groups that use the Bible claiming their interpretations are correct. Too often, however, the interpretations not only differ dramatically but are clearly contradictory. This does not mean that the Bible is a confusing document. Rather, the problem lies in those who interpret and the methods they use. Because we are sinners, we are incapable of interpreting God’s word perfectly all of the time. The body, mind, will, and emotions are affected by sin and make 100 per-cent interpretive accuracy impossible. This does not mean that accurate understanding of God’s Word is impossible. But it does mean that we need to approach His word with care, humility, and reason. Additionally, we need, as best as can be had, the guidance of the Holy Spirit in interpreting God’s Word. After all, the Bible is inspired by God and is addressed to His people. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand what God’s word means and how to apply it. On the human level, to lessen the errors that come in our interpretations, we need to look at some basic biblical interpretive methods. I’ll list some of the principles in the form of questions and then apply them one at a time to a passage of scripture. I offer the following principles as guidelines for examining a passage. They are not exhaustive nor are they set in concrete. 1. Who wrote/spoke the passage and to whom was it addressed? 2. What does the passage say? 3. Are there any words or phrases in the passage that need to be examined? 4. What is the immediate context? 5. What is the broader context in the chapter and book? 6. What are the related verses to the passage’s subject and how do they affect the understanding of this passage? 7. What is the historical and cultural background? 8. What do I conclude about the passage? 9. Do my conclusions agree or disagree with related areas of scripture and others who have studied the passage? 10. What have I learned and what must I apply to my life? I hope this helps, BradK |

2847 | where can I find step out in faith | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 157555
Hi mobubree, Welcome to the Forum! The phrase "step out on faith" is not found in the Bible. It is, however, a human expression of our placing trust in Christ and walking by faith. That Jesus "will always be with me" is probably attributable to Jesus in Matt. 28:20. I hope this helps. BradK |

2848 | doctrinally unsound? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 157626
Dear uma, I don't know if this is intended as a leading question or not? But, offhand, it is all scripture, every word of it from the Bible. The only thing "unsound" about it is the random stringing together of the verses of scripture. The verses themselves are sound. The random piecing of them together may not be. Could you elaborate as to where you're headed with this? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2849 | agreed? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 160168
Jimmy, YES!! You really need to stop with the leading questions young man. Like it or not, you're immaturity is showing through and it is not edifying. I don't know what your point is- if there is one and I'm not buying into your game. Jimmy, many of us are on the Forum to study scripture- and we take it seriously. Please take the time to read the "Terms of Use" and "About the Forum" should you wish to continue. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2850 | Harold Camping ? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 161370
Hi Calmrage, Yes, there are problems with Harold Campings' theology. You may find some sound analysis of his errors at www.apologeticsindex.org. There are several other sound web sites that detail his heresies. False predictions are one strong key to someone heading down the path to error- if they're not there already. Since no one knows (Matt. 24:36), I find it amazing so many try to speculate- especially from silence! I might suggest you go to CARM.org, under "The Bible" where they have a very good, basic list of interpretive principles. Interpretation of scripture is for a purpose: To understand God’s word more accurately. With a better understanding of His word, we can then more accurately apply it to the area that it addresses. I hope this helps, BradK |

2851 | Protestant and Catholic Bibles? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 161740
Hi JohhnyB, Welcome to the Forum! That's a great question, but also one that can be too detailed to spell out on the Forum- at least for myself:-) I'd recommend you go to www.bible.org. Once there, check the left margin and under List Content, click on "by topic". On "C", choose "canon" and I think you'll have more than ample material and ersources to satisfy you. Particularly, the Q and A at the bottom should have a specific answer to the Catholic verses Protestant bible. I hope this helps, BradK |

2853 | The Hell questions. | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 162931
Hi MJH, I have a book entitled, "The Consuming Fire" by Edward Fudge. It deals in-depth with the doctrine of eternal punishment and views on hell. It may be of help to you. You can go directly to his web site, www.edwardfudge.com. Further, there are many Journal articles that give scholarly insights. I'd start by a word study on "hell" and how it's used in scripture:-) God Bless, BradK |

2855 | Do evil spirits posses people today? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 164627
Hello ChristianOnly, It would depend whether you're referring to a believer or non-believer. However, consider what 1 John 4:4 tells us: "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." Here are the passages that deal with Demon Possession: 1. Man of Capernaum, healed by Christ in the synagogue on the Sabbath Mark 1:24; Luke 4:35 2. Maniac of Gadara, possessed by and healed of a legion of demons Matt. 8:28–32; Mark 5:2–13; Luke 8:33 3. A mute man healed by Christ, causing the multitudes to rejoice Matt. 9:32–33 4. A girl from Tyre and Sidon, healed at request of her heartbroken mother Matt. 15:28; Mark 7:29 5. A boy at the base of Mount Hermon, healed at the request of his heartbroken father Matt. 17:18; Mark 9:25; Luke 9:42 6. A blind and deaf man whom Christ was accused of healing by the power of Beelzebub Matt. 12:22; Luke 11:14 7. Woman with an 18-year infirmity, healed by Christ in a synagogue on the Sabbath Luke 13:10–13 8. Mary Magdalene, healed by Christ of seven demons Mark 16:9; Luke 8:2 9. Judas Iscariot, possessed by Satan himself Luke 22:3; John 6:70; 13:27 10. A slave girl with powers of divination, healed by Paul at Philippi Acts 16:16–18 11. Sceva’s sons, renegade Jews at Ephesus Acts 19:15 12. The Antichrist, world dictator during the Great Tribulation Rev. 16:13 13. False prophet, evil helper of the Antichrist Rev. 16:13 [Willmington, H. L. Willmington's Book of Bible Lists.] May you have a blessed and Merry CHRISTmas, BradK |

2856 | Watch out that no one deceives you.... | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 164919
Hi Brenda L, I'd be very cautious about following any teachings of this Mary K. Baxter. Here's why: 1. The Bible already tells us quite alot about hell. Her statement implies we can't find the answers in the bible? It's a little like coming to and intersection when you have clearly posted Stop signs and signal lights. I doesn't make much sense:-) 2. The claim that Jesus took her there reeks of mysticism. It is extra-biblical and not very credible. 3. It negates the authority of scripture- it is and end-run around the Bible. If we can't or don't accept what the Bible clearly teaches and we instead rely upon highly subjective experiences, scripture becomes meaningless! (2. Tim. 3:16) We had a lady in our adult Sunday school class who has similar experiences. They carry very little credibilty! I would focus my efforts on what the Bible teaches. God has revealed what He wants us to know in the pages of scripture. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2857 | Watch out that no one deceives you.... | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 164947
Hi Brenda L, Glad I could be of help. The gist of what I was saying is found in Eph. 4:14; "As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;" Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2858 | Is it a sin to be love with your cousin? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 165282
Hello Lost Lamb, First, I don't know your intentions- long term- but you might want to check your specific State Law first to find out if it's even legal...? Second, it's not necessarily wrong to be "in love" with your cousin. It's the actions that are taken on it that may be wrong. Are the feelings mutual? As this isn't a counselling Forum, you would be better served by seeking the advice of a Pastor or other mature Christian whom you trust and would value their advice. I Hope this helps, BradK |

2859 | Life Of Daniel! | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 165903
Hi Grace, If you're refering to "The Book of Daniel", absolutely not! It's title is entirely misleading and the show is a crock of amoral, politically correct junk! Despite what was already written about the show from American Family Network, I watched the first 15 minutes last week for first hand info! That was all I could waste. As expected, the theology was bankrupt ("we don't need to ask God or Jesus to forgive us, we need to forgive ourselves first). However, the complete and overboard disfunctionality of the family overshadowed the thinly veiled attack on Christians and the "politically-correct" morality. It will be a complete failure as it relates to no real-life believers I know. The show portrays a disconnected "Pastor" with a wife who drinks martinis,a openly gay son, another son who is "sleeping around" and a busted, drug-dealing daughter! Give me a break! I would even speculate that the very liberal John Shelby Spong would have problems with the lack of character ethics! This guy is a pastor of a church? He can't even manage his family! The show would be better titled, "The Book of Hallucinations", or "The Complete Dysfunctional Family". The "Book of Daniel" is not even funny or remotely serious and a big waste of time in my humble estimation. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hello yram, Are you focusing on "nurturing" or "gift to God"? You can always do a word search or study to find related verses. I'm afraid I'm not completely grasping your question. Could you possibly re-phrase it? BradK |
