461 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | BMyers | 211147
Doc, You asked for me to list my reference materials. I read articles in the following dictionaries: Nelson New Illustrated Bible Dictionary Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary Bridgeway Bible Dictionary I looked up some terms in the Smith’s Dictionary and the Unger’s Bible Dictionary. I read about the verses we have been discussing in the following commentaries: Matthew Henry Commentary New International Bible Commentary MacArthur Bible Commentary Expositor’s Bible Commentary Believer’s Bible Commentary JFB Commentary I don’t have the links to all the different websites I went to for articles. I just typed in the topic and searched. I would say about 2/3s of the websites I went to on both sides of the discussions were not worth looking at. They made nothing but emotional arguments with very little actual content. When I first posted in this topic, I had no idea this was such a hot button item. Yet, I’m glad I did post. I feel when a topic challenges me to truly look at my beliefs and research, pray, and pray some more, this has to be a good thing. I’m not done researching, actually anxiously awaiting the arrival of my books to do some more reading. Just wanted to say thanks Doc and others, in my own strange way. Even though I still don’t agree with Doc, it is nice to have my views respectfully challenged. I may never agree with Doc on this topic, but you have driven me further into Word and educated me on topics as a Christian I should be aware. Your brother-in-Christ Brad Pro 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. |

462 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | BMyers | 212032
Thanks for the reply. I haven't finished reading all the books that I had ordered, but so far, Dr. Oss and Dr. Deere both have made good arguments against the cessation of Spiritual Gifts and that they should still be alive and active in the believer today. I haven't had a chance to read Dr. Fee's books yet and have only partially finished Dr. Deere's book before my wife took it and has started reading it. I've been really thankful that this discussion has come up on the forum, because of it I have been challenged to dig deeper and study harder and I prayer that this has happened to others that have either posted or just read through the topic. 463 | Will we know each other in Heaven? | 1 Cor 15:52 | BMyers | 201707
Hi Doc, I'm trying to grasp your post, if I'm reading it correctly, you are saying we will not get new bodies? My limited understanding was that we would be raised (rapture) in our old (current) body and when the rapture occurs we would be trading off our old bodies (the perishable) for new bodies (imperishable). I don't know if that means I will get a whole new body or if God will just change this one I have. I know your current time is short so you may not have time to reply in depth that this topic could involve and if so that is find, I understand having your time taken by other responsibilities. Thanks Brad |

465 | Why did god make man in it's image? | 2 Cor 3:18 | BMyers | 233950
I would rephrase your question in my mind to say why do humans look like God? God was here first and decided to bless us as humans with His image. Now discussions have been had does that mean physically we are like God? Does it mean we were created with a soul, mind, and body? The discussion can take many directions and have heard good sermons bringing up both points. Ultimately our creation as humans is to glorify the Lord. Why did God chose this form or humans to be blessed like this, when you get to heaven you can ask Him, if you still find the question important. I know myself, many things I ponder know will become a whole lot less important when I lay my eyes on Him. Brad |

467 | Can a Christian go to Night Clubs | 2 Cor 6:14 | BMyers | 222673
You may want to consider reading Romans chapter 14. The key point that I take out of the chapter is verse 17-21 with the emphasis on verse 19. Is going to the Night Club up building to you or those that you influence? If you are questioning rather you should go or not, then most likely you already know the answer. 1Co 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1Co 10:32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 1Co 10:33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.(ESV) Brad |

468 | Can a Christian go to Night Clubs | 2 Cor 6:14 | BMyers | 222699
Hi Ariel, can you give scripture for your statement? In the incidents that come to mind, eating with the religious outcast and when Jesus was perfumed, didn't involve the location, but the issue that was brought up was the people that Jesus was with. Although, maybe I'm not remembering a passage, hence the request for the scripture. Brad |

470 | Bible Qotes about being aganist racism | Gal 3:28 | BMyers | 202298
ZEC 8:17 ‘Also let none of you devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love perjury; for all these are what I hate,’ declares the LORD.” MT 22:37 And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ MT 22:38 “This is the great and foremost commandment. MT 22:39 “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ MT 22:40 “ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” MK 12:29 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; MK 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ MK 12:31 “The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” RO 13:9 For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” RO 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. GAL 5:14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” Brad |

471 | HOW DOES GOD FEEL ABOUT SLAVERY? | Ephesians | BMyers | 215544
I'm not sure that Paul was endorsing slavery, but instead was giving a moral/ethical standard to live by regardless of what level you fall at (slave/master). Eph. 6:6,7 I feel sums up what Paul was saying. Yes, these verses apply to our work attitude. 1Co 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. |

473 | Are they pastor/teachers? | Eph 4:12 | BMyers | 202093
Hi Thomas8, I don't think all churches have the problem of being 'entertainers'. There are many churches out there that have hard working ministers that have a deep love and passion for Christ, who are doing the best they can with their God-given skills to feed the flock. I'm not sure that it is always the Pastor that is lacking growth, more so it is the members. HEB 5:11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. Matthew Henry Commentary: II. He assigns the reason why he did not say all those things concerning Christ, our Melchisedec, that he had to say, and what it was that made it so difficult for him to utter them, namely, the dulness of the Hebrews to whom he wrote: You are dull of hearing. There is a difficulty in the things themselves, and there may be a weakness in the ministers of the gospel to speak clearly about these things; but generally the fault is in the hearers. Dull hearers make the preaching of the gospel a difficult thing, and even many who have some faith are but dull hearers, dull of understanding and slow to believe; the understanding is weak, and does not apprehend these spiritual things; the memory is weak, and does not retain them. Instead of looking at the pastors, we need to look at the members. How many of them spend time in God's Word outside of Sunday? How many spend time in prayer, besides dinner? How many spend time contemplating and hiding God's Word in their heart? Brad |

474 | How important is growth? | Eph 4:12 | BMyers | 202098
"Do you think that maybe there is a relationship between the kind of church/preacher one choses and how much daily study is done?" YES! People that want to go to church just to be 'entertained' will search until they find a church that meets that desire. I think many people forget that the church isn't all about them. The church is meeting place for believers to come together, build up one another, and worship/praise God. All these involve you putting other things in front of yourself with the primary focus being on God. It is hard concept in today's society when we live in a 'me' world. The only 'me' in a Christian relationship is the willingness of 'me' to submit to God's divine will and purpose for 'me'. I'm not sure how I got off on the 'me' thing, but if a person doesn't study the Word of God, how can he/she know if what is being taught in church is correct? Don't misunderstand me; I think churches with different ministries are vital. I don't want to give the impression that every church should be sitting around 24/7 doing nothing but in depth Bible studies. The teaching/preaching at churches need to be in accordance with the level the congregation is at and include additional activities/ministries that will help the body grow. An example would be a Saturday car wash put on by the Youth group to help raise funds for missions or to send kids to camp. Directly, this activity isn't a Bible study, but indirectly you are teaching the kids about concepts and principals from the Word. I think 1 Peter 4:11 sums this up: 1PE 4:11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. We need to as a church, as a member, and as a teacher/pastor make sure that we are to doing all things so God may be glorified. Don't see nothing in that scripture about making little old Brad happy or entertained. Yet as we do as the Word states, we will have joy. GAL 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, GAL 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Brad |

475 | bible verses about fighting fairly | Eph 5:33 | BMyers | 202238
There is no such thing as a fair fight. If you going to fight, you are fighting to win. As others have pointed out, the Bible teaches to love and to 'turn the other cheek'. Not always an easy thing to do. Proverbs even tells us we are supposed to be nice to our enemies. Pr 25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. Pr 25:22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Speaking from experience, just because you win the fight, doesn't mean you feel any better. I've tried to go from worrying about winning the fight, to working on making my wife happy. Oddly enough, the fights have all but disappeared and we are BOTH much happier. Brad |

477 | what are the things above | Colossians | BMyers | 222792
Sorry, I hadn't replied sooner. Just got off vacation and been getting slammed at work. Anyway, 'things above' can be understood as heavenly things. SO that leads to the next question, what is heavenly things? The best answer I can think of is Philippians 4:8. Hope this helps. Brad |

479 | founding a business on Christ | Col 3:17 | BMyers | 231812
I'm not sure what you are asking, but the Bible states we should do everything for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (ESV) Brad |

480 | who will be raptured? | 1 Thessalonians | BMyers | 231629
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ESV) Brad |
