521 | When was Cyrenius governor? | Luke 2:2 | BMyers | 197921
Cyrenius, which is used in the KJV, is called Quirinius in the NASV. Reading through my books (New Illustrated Bible Dictionary and Who's Who and Where's Where int the Bible), there is some discussion on how Quirinius was governor. Some believe that he was a two term governor, with the first term being served during Christ birth and then at 6 AD. Others feel that he served as a military co-governor during the birth of Christ along with Quirinius Varus. Varus and Quirinius sharing civil duties. |

522 | Holy Spirit operatin our churches today? | Acts | BMyers | 197909
AC 2:38 Peter said to them, “ Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. AC 2:39 “For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” RO 11:29 for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. RO 12:6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; RO 12:7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; RO 12:8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 1CO 7:7 Yet I wish that all men were even as I myself am. However, each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner, and another in that. 1CO 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 1CO 12:5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 1CO 12:6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 1CO 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1CO 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 1CO 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 1CO 12:10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 1CO 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. 1PE 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. |

523 | I forget where the bible says you will b | Acts 11:26 | BMyers | 197895
BradK is correct with his reference to Matthew 7:15-7:20 If I'm correct, the word "Christians" is only used in Acts 11:26 and nowhere else in the Bible. Matt 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. Matt 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? Matt 7:17 "So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. Matt 7:18 "A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Matt 7:19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matt 7:20 "So then, you will know them by their fruits. |

524 | what was the Capernaum residents knowled | NT general | BMyers | 197861
Capernaum saw the miracles and teaching Jesus had first hand. If you do a word search for Capernaum, you will see Capernaum is mentioned several times. Read Matthew 11:23,24 and you will see that Christ has done miracles there (heals man lowered through roof, heals Peter's mother-in-law, heals servant of Romman commander). Jesus made Capernaum His new home town (Matthew 4:13). I would say that the people of Capernaum had front row seats to one of the most exciting time periods in human history! |

526 | Who are Us? | Gen 3:22 | BMyers | 197837
My understanding the 'Us' is God who is speaking on behalf of all the heavenly host. The 'take also' is referring to them eating the fruit of life just as they had eaten the fruit of tree of good/evil. The phrasing of the scripture can make it a little confusing. I don't care for paraphrased Bibles much, but once in a while they come in handy. 22 Then the LORD God said, "Look, the human beings* have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!" |
