402 | Why Miriam and not Aaron | Num 12:10 | BMyers | 202635
Here is what Matthew Henry Commentary has to say: "Miriam was struck with a leprosy, but not Aaron, because she was first in the transgression, and God would put a difference between those that mislead and those that are misled. Aaron’s office, though it saved him not from God’s displeasure, yet helped to secure him from this token of his displeasure, which would not only have suspended him for the present from officiating, when (there being no priests but himself and his two sons) he could ill be spared, but it would have rendered him and his office mean, and would have been a lasting blot upon his family. Aaron as priest was to be the judge of the leprosy, and his performing that part of his office upon this occasion, when he looked upon Miriam, and behold she was leprous, was a sufficient mortification to him. He was struck through her side, and could not pronounce her leprous without blushing and trembling, knowing himself to be equally obnoxious. This judgment upon Miriam is improvable by us as a warning to take heed of putting any affront upon our Lord Jesus. If she was thus chastised for speaking against Moses, what will become of those that sin against Christ?" Brad |

403 | "I have anointed you king over Israel." | 2 Kings | BMyers | 202634
Is this the passage you are referring to? 2KI 9:1 Now Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “ Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead. 2KI 9:2 “When you arrive there, search out Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and bid him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room. 2KI 9:3 “Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the LORD, “ I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee and do not wait.” 2KI 9:4 So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 2KI 9:5 When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said, “I have a word for you, O captain.” And Jehu said, “ For which one of us?” And he said, “For you, O captain.” 2KI 9:6 He arose and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘ I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel. If so, the answer would be Elisha the first time and "the young man, the servant of the prophet" said it to Jehu following Elisha's directions the second time. |

404 | meaning of Proverbs 20:10 | Prov 20:10 | BMyers | 202593
In my humble opinion, what this verse is dealing with is being dishonest. MHC: The various arts of deceiving that men have, all which evils the love of money is the root of. In paying and receiving money, which was then commonly done by the scale, they had divers weights, an under-weight for what they paid and an over-weight for what they received; in delivering out and taking in goods they had divers measures, a scanty measure to sell by and a large measure to buy by. This was done wrong with plot and contrivance, and under colour of doing right. Under these is included all manner of fraud and deceit in commerce and trade. 2. The displeasure of God against them. Whether they be about the money or the goods, in the buyer or in the seller, they are all alike an abomination to the Lord. He will not prosper the trade that is thus driven, nor bless what is thus got. He hates those that thus break the common faith by which justice is maintained, and will be the avenger of all such. The question is are you being dishonest with your customer? I know business will give some customers 'breaks' due to the volume of their business. I don't see that as trying to stealing. Just my two cents. Brad |

409 | What does the bible say? | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 202322
Welcome to the forum! The Bible is God's word to man. The some of the important parts: 1) We are sinners (Romans 3:23) 2) God loves us (John 3:16) 3) Jesus saves (Romans 10:9) That is the mile high overview. Yet the Bible has so much more, from the fall of man (sin entering the world) to the redemption of man (via Jesus Christ) to the final judgment and everything in between. Attempting to summarize everything in the Bible in one post would not do the Bible justice. Volumes have been written. Many, many topics have been discussed and can be searched by using the search feature on the right side of the screen. Is there key topic(s) you are interested in? May God bless you as you study and grow in His word. Brad 2TI 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2TI 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. |

ZEC 8:17 ‘Also let none of you devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love perjury; for all these are what I hate,’ declares the LORD.” MT 22:37 And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ MT 22:38 “This is the great and foremost commandment. MT 22:39 “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ MT 22:40 “ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” MK 12:29 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; MK 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ MK 12:31 “The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” RO 13:9 For this, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” RO 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. GAL 5:14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” Brad |

411 | bible verses about fighting fairly | Eph 5:33 | BMyers | 202238
There is no such thing as a fair fight. If you going to fight, you are fighting to win. As others have pointed out, the Bible teaches to love and to 'turn the other cheek'. Not always an easy thing to do. Proverbs even tells us we are supposed to be nice to our enemies. Pr 25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. Pr 25:22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Speaking from experience, just because you win the fight, doesn't mean you feel any better. I've tried to go from worrying about winning the fight, to working on making my wife happy. Oddly enough, the fights have all but disappeared and we are BOTH much happier. Brad |

412 | "youth renewed like the eagle"?ps 103:5 | Psalm | BMyers | 202162
Here is what Matthew Henry's Commentary has to say: “He has given thee a prospect and pledge of long life: Thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” The eagle is long-lived, and, as naturalists say, when she is nearly 100 years old, casts all her feathers (as indeed she changes them in a great measure every year at moulting time), and fresh ones come, so that she becomes young again. When God, by the graces and comforts of his Spirit, recovers his people from their decays, and fills them with new life and joy, which is to them an earnest of eternal life and joy, then they may be said to return to the days of their youth, Job 33:23. Hitherto the psalmist had only looked back upon his own experiences and thence fetched matter for praise; here he looks abroad and takes notice of his favour to others also; for in them we should rejoice and give thanks for them, all the saints being fed at a common table and sharing in the same blessings. 413 | How do I forgive adultry if it continues | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 202103
TJS, first I would like to welcome you to the forum. Reading your post, you are asking about the sin of adultery. Before I even attempt to discuss that topic, I'm concerned about a statement you made. "I never forgave her for the adultery" You have been deeply hurt by this act and have personally experienced how destructive sin can be, not only to an individual, but to a whole family. Forgiveness is a key part in this issue. We are told by the Bible that we are to forgive those that sin against us. COL 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. MT 6:14 “ For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. MT 6:15 “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. MK 11:25 “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. Once you have worked through the forgiveness, then the healing can start to take place. I would encourage you to seek some counseling from a Godly Pastor. Finding condemnation for your ex-wife will not solve the issues you are dealing with. Only the healing of the Holy Spirit working to mend a broken, trampled on heart can help you find the joy of Christ. Brad |

414 | How important is growth? | Eph 4:12 | BMyers | 202098
"Do you think that maybe there is a relationship between the kind of church/preacher one choses and how much daily study is done?" YES! People that want to go to church just to be 'entertained' will search until they find a church that meets that desire. I think many people forget that the church isn't all about them. The church is meeting place for believers to come together, build up one another, and worship/praise God. All these involve you putting other things in front of yourself with the primary focus being on God. It is hard concept in today's society when we live in a 'me' world. The only 'me' in a Christian relationship is the willingness of 'me' to submit to God's divine will and purpose for 'me'. I'm not sure how I got off on the 'me' thing, but if a person doesn't study the Word of God, how can he/she know if what is being taught in church is correct? Don't misunderstand me; I think churches with different ministries are vital. I don't want to give the impression that every church should be sitting around 24/7 doing nothing but in depth Bible studies. The teaching/preaching at churches need to be in accordance with the level the congregation is at and include additional activities/ministries that will help the body grow. An example would be a Saturday car wash put on by the Youth group to help raise funds for missions or to send kids to camp. Directly, this activity isn't a Bible study, but indirectly you are teaching the kids about concepts and principals from the Word. I think 1 Peter 4:11 sums this up: 1PE 4:11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. We need to as a church, as a member, and as a teacher/pastor make sure that we are to doing all things so God may be glorified. Don't see nothing in that scripture about making little old Brad happy or entertained. Yet as we do as the Word states, we will have joy. GAL 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, GAL 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Brad |

416 | Are they pastor/teachers? | Eph 4:12 | BMyers | 202093
Hi Thomas8, I don't think all churches have the problem of being 'entertainers'. There are many churches out there that have hard working ministers that have a deep love and passion for Christ, who are doing the best they can with their God-given skills to feed the flock. I'm not sure that it is always the Pastor that is lacking growth, more so it is the members. HEB 5:11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. Matthew Henry Commentary: II. He assigns the reason why he did not say all those things concerning Christ, our Melchisedec, that he had to say, and what it was that made it so difficult for him to utter them, namely, the dulness of the Hebrews to whom he wrote: You are dull of hearing. There is a difficulty in the things themselves, and there may be a weakness in the ministers of the gospel to speak clearly about these things; but generally the fault is in the hearers. Dull hearers make the preaching of the gospel a difficult thing, and even many who have some faith are but dull hearers, dull of understanding and slow to believe; the understanding is weak, and does not apprehend these spiritual things; the memory is weak, and does not retain them. Instead of looking at the pastors, we need to look at the members. How many of them spend time in God's Word outside of Sunday? How many spend time in prayer, besides dinner? How many spend time contemplating and hiding God's Word in their heart? Brad |

417 | is there any difference between a 'God f | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 202079
Yes, no, and maybe. Depend on what context you are using the phrase 'God fearing'. In the past and still at times today, it is/was used as a term to indicate a "Christian" person. In the modern use of the term, people will say they are 'God fearing' but do not have the personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is there a particular verse you are lookig at or just the broad use of the statement in modern life? Brad |

418 | being brought out | OT general | BMyers | 202077
I did a quick search and found the term "brought out" used 33 times in the Bible. All 33 times occured in the Old Testament. Most reffered to items being brought out (most that I looked at which was about 1/3). Others referred to the Hebrews being "brought out" of Egypt. Compared to other terms such as 'blood', or 'works', the phrase 'brought out' is used a relatively low amount of times. Brad |

This is when your handy dandy concordance comes into play. You can look up both of those words and see how often and where they are used. 'fellow soldier' (Strongs #4961) is used twice-once in the verse you mention and once in Php 2:25 'fellow worker'(Strongs #4904) is used 6 times (fellow workers-6 times and workers-1) Rom 16:9, 16:21; 2Co 8:23; Php 2:25; 1Th 3:2 (plus the verse you mentioned) Brad |
