301 | Where is this date from? | Gen 7:12 | BMyers | 215032
Thanks, for explaining. You may want to do some additional research, due to the flood date has been placed between 2,000 and 3,000 BC by some Biblical scholars (some even go older). I will not pretend to understand it all, but I know from the articles I read, that the estimates (fancy word for guess) on the flood date was centered around dates of the Exodus and other events that they can tie to known event dates and then they work back from those dates. I checked my ESV Study Bible, NKJV Chronological Bible, and NASB Zondervan Study Bible which all had dates of 2,000BC or older. (Remembering these are just educated guesses.) Maybe someone that has spent time studying this topic of dating could explain better than I, but it is an interesting topic (I've only read a little on Biblical dating (not talking about the boy-girl dating either)), not only dating of the flood, but many Biblical events. 302 | Place where Bible stood still one hour | Joshua | BMyers | 215028
According to the scripture, it appears to me that it may have stood still for longer than an "hour". If I'm reading it correctly, it appears to be stating that it was a whole day, not an hour. So, once again, I'm not sure that it was an hour, I think it was longer. Please give me scriptural support that it was only an hour. Thanks, Brad |

Hi Vintage68, Where did you get your date of 8402? So far, nothing I have read validates this date. I was wondering where and how it was calculated. Thanks, Brad |

304 | Place where Bible stood still one hour | Joshua | BMyers | 215012
I'm not sure about the sun standing still for an hour, but here is the scriptural reference in Joshua: Jos 10:12 At that time Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon." Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. Jos 10:14 There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD heeded the voice of a man, for the LORD fought for Israel. (ESV) Brad |

307 | What does the Bible say about gambling? | Ex 20:17 | BMyers | 214695
I'm sure John will answer in greater detail, but the main issue of gambling is the fact of stewardship. Are you being a good steward of what God has blessed you with? Along with the central issue of stewardship, what about the effect it has on the community and/or the individual. I will give you a prime example, we have a gambling boat in the neighboring community. A lady went and gambled six thousand dollars (one article says eight thousand) of her money away. She then realized what she had done and instead of confusing to her husband, she went and shot herself. She survived and then told the police she had been robbed. (The articles are in The Telegraph for Alton, IL). This is one of hundreds of stories about how gambling has destroyed a person/family. Are we called to be our brothers/sister keeper? Romans 14 I still say the main reason that gambling is wrong, is that one is failing to be a good steward with what God has given them. Brad |

I'm answering this quickly, which has traditionally been a mistake for me, but working long hours has allowed a minimal amount of time to post or research topics. My answer (remember this is my answer, not researched, nor studied) is that Tyre is not where Satan was casted down to. The quick reason, Satan was cast down prior to the town of Trye being established (hence Satan was in the garden of Eden). Sorry my thoughts can't be more in depth, but have to get back to the jobsite. Brad |

Tyre (From International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) tir (tsowr. tsor, "rock"' Turos, "Tyrus"; modern Sur): 1. Physical Features: The most noted of the Phoenician cities situated on the coast, lat. 33ø 17 minutes, about 20 miles South of Sidon and about 35 North of Carmel. The date of its foundation is uncertain, but it was later than that of Sidon. It is mentioned in the travels of the Egyptian Mohar, dating probably from the 14th century BC, and in the Tell el-Amarna Letters of about the same period. Herodotus describes the temple of Hercules at Tyre and says it was built 2,300 years before his time, which would carry back the beginning of the city to more than 2700 BC. It was a double city, one part on an island, a short distance from the shore, and the other on the mainland opposite. The island city had two harbors, connected by a canal, one looking North and the other South. The island was rocky and the city was fortitled on the land side by a wall 150 ft. high, the wall being of less elevation on the other sides. It was an exceedingly strong position, and is referred to in the Bible as the "strong" or "fortitled" city (Joshua 19:29). The space within the walls was crowded with buildings, and is said to have contained 40,000 inhabitants. The town on the mainland was situated in a plain extending from the Ras el-'Abyad, on the South to Sarepta on the North, a distance of about 20 miles. It was fertile and well watered, the river Leontes (Litany) passing through it to the sea, about 5 miles N. of Tyre, and the copious fountain of Ras el-'Ain, 3 miles to the South, furnishing an abundant supply both for the city and the gardens. |

314 | Gen 6: 2; angels are "sons of God" ???? | Matt 22:30 | BMyers | 214396
There is debate on what the "sons of God" means. I've attached the notes from Bible below. Notes from my ESV Study Bible: The identity of both groups is uncertain, and various solutions have been advocated, although none has gained universal support. Various scholars have proposed that the “sons of God” are (1) fallen angels (cf. Job 1:6; some, however, suggest that this contradicts Mark 12:25, though the reference in Mark is to angels in heaven; see also 2 Pet. 2:4–5; Jude 5–6); or (2) tyrannical human judges or kings (in the ungodly line of Lamech, possibly demon-possessed); or (3) followers of God among the male descendants of Seth (i.e., the godly line of Seth, but who married the ungodly daughters of Cain). |

315 | Elaborate on last days timeframe | Heb 1:2 | BMyers | 213343
Doc, still working (bummer to be at work on Saturday, but thankful for job), do you believe in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit and that they are still active today? My understanding from previous conversations, were no. The classification of this is cessationism, which there are various levels and as you have pointed out maybe it isn't various levels of cessationism, but of continuationism. Saying that a person is going outside of what the Bible teaches by believing in the gift of tongues or prophecy, I believe, this is where we disagree. Discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, I don't believe is violating the terms of use of the forum. Just because some don't believe they are still active, doesn't mean they are right, especially since the debate centers on the very scriptures themselves and how one understands 1 Corinthians 13:8 and "perfect". Unfortunately brief notes don’t always allow full explanations, purpose wasn’t to offend, but point out different view point that is scripturally based. Brad |

316 | Elaborate on last days timeframe | Heb 1:2 | BMyers | 213336
Not everyone agrees on the issue for looking for guidance outside of scripture (Holy Spirit). When you use the term "we" I'm assuming that you are reffering to the mindset of Doc and yourself, which I believe is Cessationists, but not all Christians believe in this theology. I can say after reading books that Doc has recommended and others have recommended, that I'm not of that mindset and still feel that the Holy Spirit can and does prompt us and guide us, but never contradicts scripture (this could be a very long post, but at work right now).
