The concept God illustrates throughout scripture is choice. We must choose to follow Christ or else we will die spiritually. Yes, God commanded the Isrealites to destroy the children of pagans in several instances during the OT times. He himself destroyed all life on earth at the Flood, but the souls of these children, unable to ever understand and obey His commandments, were spared for eternal life. To say otherwise would make God unjust and we know that is impossible! See also Matt 19:13-15. |

104 | Do all men belong to God? | Job 33:6 | Aspiring Overseer | 131927
Momma, Here are but a few verses which answer your question. Deut 10:17-18 17For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality, nor take a bribe. 18He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. NAS Job 36:5 5"Behold, God is mighty but does not despise any; He is mighty in strength of understanding. NAS Acts 10:34-35 34And opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, 35but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right, is welcome to Him. NAS Rom 2:4-9 5But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6who will render to every man according to his deeds: 7to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; 8but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. NAS Col 3:24-25 25For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. NAS 1 Peter 1:16-19 17And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay upon earth; 18knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. NAS Col 1:20-23 21And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach-- 23if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made NAS Heb 3:4-6 5Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; 6but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. NAS Heb 3:13-15 14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end; 15while it is said, "Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me." NAS Heb 6:10-12 11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, 12that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. NAS Heb 10:34-11:1 35Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. 38But My righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him. 39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. NAS Rev 2:10 10'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. NAS AO |

105 | Do all men belong to God? | Job 33:6 | Aspiring Overseer | 132596
Momma, I am sorry for the delay in responding. You pose two excellent questions. The first, "Do men have a need to "belong"?", is answered in Acts. Acts 17:24-28 24"The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things; 26and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation, 27that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said,' For we also are His offspring.' NAS We see that all mankind was created "that they should seek God". Not just some, but all. Why must we seek God? God desires His creation to chose Him! OT examples: Ex 32:25-27 25Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control-- for Aaron had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies-- 26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!" And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him. 27And he said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.'" NAS Josh 24:14 15And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." NAS God tells us to seek Him: 1 Chron 16:11 11Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. NAS And Prov 8:17 17"I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me. NAS Jesus tells us to seek His kingdom above all else: Matt 6:33 33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. NAS A person must seek with sincerity and truth otherwise God will not draw them to Him. 1 Cor 1:18-19 18For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside." NAS John 6:60-65 60Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard this said, "This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?" 61But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble? 62"What then if you should behold the Son of Man ascending where He was before? 63"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64"But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. 65And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been granted him from the Father." NAS The Father grants access to Christ (the opportunity for spiritual life) only to those who obey His commands. God sets the standard for all people to either follow or ignore. Here lies the answer to your second question, "Does our response to this "need" determine to WHOM we belong?". Yes, those who choose to seek God, sincerely, will belong to Him. Those who choose to ignore God or to seek Him without understanding, will belong to Satan. Be careful to understand, however, that it is US who have the ability to chose which path we will follow. God does not direct or predispose some to choosing and some not to choosing. Each of us has the same test as the above verses demonstrate. I hope this is not too late for assisting you with your study. I am at your service should you desire to discuss this further. AO |

106 | How can I spiritually endure? | Psalm | Aspiring Overseer | 106694
Dear Angellove, This is the test a Christian faces, “How do I spiritually endure?”. The only way to accomplish this is to put truth into your mind so that evil is shoved aside. We know that light and darkness can not exist in the same location, thus by continual study and teaching a Christian keeps their mind free of fleshly lust. Their focus must be spiritual rather than worldly: Matt 6:19-22 19"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22"The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. NAS How do you lay up “treasures in heaven”, but through teaching others the truth. The wise man wins souls. Christians must master their tendency to sin through the renewing of their mind, or in other words, the study and practice of God’s commands, through which they become transformed to their “new self”, as effectual doers. Eph 4:19-24 20But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. NAS This means being an independent thinker in scripture, not dependent upon the opinions of others, as the Christian must be able to stand alone before God with a clear conscience for all he has done. During life, they must overcome their fleshly nature and prove to God that they understand and practice His will. Rom 12:1-2 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. NAS In the end, the best course is to pray for guidance and an open mind. God is always faithful. AO |

107 | References to His Command | Ps 27:8 | Aspiring Overseer | 136917
Lissa, Here is a brief study on the topic of seeking God: Heb 11:6 6And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. NAS Two prerequsities of Faith: Belief and that God rewards those who seek Him. How do we believe? Rom 10:16-18 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. NAS Bible proofs demonstrate to us that God’s word is true. Once we know it is true, we have a decision to make; to seek God or not. Why do we seek God? God made us that way: Acts 17:24-28 24"The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things; 26and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation, 27that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said,' For we also are His offspring.' NAS Why must we seek God to receive His reward? God desires His creation to choose Him! OT examples: Ex 32:25-27 25Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control-- for Aaron had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies-- 26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!" NAS Josh 24:14 15And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." NAS God tells us to seek Him: 1 Chron 16:11 11Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. 19For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. 65And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been granted him from the Father." NAS We can not be with Christ in heaven unless we obey God. God sets the standard we must follow if we seek salvation. Only those who obey God are granted that reward. AO |

114 | to serve god | Matthew | Aspiring Overseer | 136922
Lissa, We can also address the service question with Romans 12:1-2: Rom 12:1-2 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. NAS Our spiritual service of worship is to present our bodies as living and holy scarifies, as you say, "by loving Him..", but what does it mean to love God? Is it to tell Him we love Him or to show Him we love Him? P.S. You must be a night owl! AO |

115 | Looking for verse on God's opinion of us | Matthew | Aspiring Overseer | 138584
Try these: Acts 5:27-30 27 And when they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, "We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." 29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, "We must obey God rather than men. NAS Gen 3:17 17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. NAS 1 Sam 15:24 24 Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; I have indeed transgressed the command of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice. NAS Mark 7:7 7'But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.' NAS Acts 4:17-20 18 And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; 20 for we cannot stop speaking what we have seen and heard. 116 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | Aspiring Overseer | 163660
Sonlit, Perhaps these verses may help you. -Should prayers be made for non-believers: 1 Timothy 2:1-7 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time. NAS -As for man’s ability to repent: Jeremiah 18:1-10 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying, 2 "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I shall announce My words to you." 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. 4 But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me saying, 6 "Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. 7 "At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it; 8 if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it. 9 "Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; 10 if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it. NAS The “clay” which spoiled (v. 4) was not unconditionally predestined. If the sinner turns from their evil (v. 8), God relents. God has designed man with the ability to choose. (Note that the “potter” did not originally make a vessel to destroy it (v.4), but rather it was REMADE in his hand so the “spoiled” (unrepentent)creation could be used.) Isaiah 55:7 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. NAS God has given mankind the free will to repent of his sin; just as we have the ability to choose the God we serve. Best regards, AO |

117 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | Aspiring Overseer | 163705
Hi Doc, Yes, I pray that people come to the knowledge of the truth so that they may be saved, but targeted specifically for those that are seeking God. It is my daily prayer to be able to speak the truth plainly to those individuals and that God lift the veil which has clouded their understanding. AO |
||||||
118 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | Aspiring Overseer | 163733
Doc, No, I am praying that God will grant them understanding. If that is against their will (choice), God will not allow the veil to be lifted further until they repent. It is still their choice. It is like the illustration of a drowning man praying for God to save him. God sends a boat, but the man waves them on telling them God will save him. A ship comes along next and they are waved on, as well. Finally a helicopter comes on scene and the man waves for them to leave, yelling "God will save me!". After finally drowning, his soul asks God, "Why did you not help me?". God did not change his will. It was the man who stubbornly refused to choose the way provided by God. James 4:8 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. NAS AO |

119 | Praying for the 'World'. | Matt 5:44 | Aspiring Overseer | 163772
Doc, I appreciate your confusion as I think you may have misunderstood my previous posts. God created all mankind to chose Him. Many, unfortunately, rebell against God by refusing to chose Him. Matt 6:33 33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. NAS Luke 11:9 9"And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. NAS Man must first seek before finding. Answers to your Q's: Q1. No, they have already exercised their free will by failing to ask. Q2. No, man has first rejected Him. They do not hear (understand), because of their continued rebellion. Why should God throw pearls before swine? AO |
