41 | Baptism not necessary to be saved | Acts | 4givn | 92469
Thank you for your input, but I believe you are in error concerning baptism. The scripture reference you gave "unless one is born of water"..., is that John 3:5? If so, then the context in which it is given is clearly referring to being born of water as being born a natural birth (when the water breaks). Look at the very next verse: "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." Also, if we are to believe Eph 2:8,9, then there is absolutely nothing we can do to determine our salvation that is a "work". And getting baptised, although one of only two ordinances of the church and certainly important, does not in any way have any saving power. If it did, and a person had to do it in order to be saved, then it would become a "work" (something you have to "do"). Salvation is a "gift". If you add any conditions to it, it is no longer a gift. You cited: Rom 6:1-6 - Are you familiar with 1 Cor 10:2? "They were all baptised into Moses...". The Romans passage you cited is similar to this one in that it is "figuratively" speaking. Acts 2:38 - Peter is telling these Jews to get saved. He is telling them if they get saved they will be indwelt by the Holy Spirit. (vs. 41 says "Those who accepted his message were baptised...". Now, which came first, the "acceptance" of the message or the baptism? To "accept" the message is to "believe". John 5:24 that says "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life". In this verse there is no mention of having to be baptised. I know you probably belong to a denomination that teaches what you have said, and I'm sure you are fairly convinced that what you believe is true. But please consider what I have said, and then ask the Lord to confirm or reject what I have said. |

Thanks. You have made a good point. I guess I am just amazed how some people interpret scripture, especially in light of what is right there in front of someone!
44 | What happens to our soul or spirit | 2 Corinthians | 4givn | 89132
"What about the story Jesus told about the poor man Lazarus and the rich man?" Was this allagorical? He said "there once was..."". It was a real story! How about 2 Cor 5:8, absent from the body, present with the Lord? |

45 | Searching for the truth | 1 Thess 4:17 | 4givn | 89517
Think "spiritually". Will Elijah die a spiritual death (the second death, the lake of fire)? Also, maybe God is not completely finished with him yet. Maybe he will be one of the two witnesses in Revelation and will in fact die a physical death. I am curious, what prompted this question?
46 | What does this verse mean? | Heb 10:26 | 4givn | 90160
Try to read it in context with the whole chapter. Then consider interpreting it in light of other scripture. Try starting at Eph 2:8,9. Salvation is all about what God does for man, not about what man can do for himself. It is a "gift". It is not about what we can do for ourselves (works).Proponents of believers being able to lose their salvation almost always refer to Hebrews 10:26, but what they fail to recognize is how one gets saved to begin with, and what else the bible has to say about it. What about "He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it." ?(Phil 1:6). Try reading Dr. Charles Stanley's book "Eternal Security". It will help you become confident in your salvation. Also, think of it from a common sense standpoint. If a person sins once saved, and then can go to hell, which sin sent him there? All of them? some of them? one of them? The same chapter you are questioning states that "because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy". (Heb 10:14). Hebrews 10:18 also mentions "no longer any sacrifice for sins". What does it mean in THAT verse? Something different? Try reading John 5:24, then read it again, but slowly and paying attention to the words carefully "HAS eternal life" and "WILL NOT be condemned" (emphasis mine). Also, if we are "born again". Then consider someone being "unborn". Is it possible for a son or daughter to be anything other than a son or daughter? What did the Lord say to the pharisees about their "father the devil". If we are born into the family of God, then what happens if we lose our salvation? Are we disowned? Disinherited? Unborn? Think about also the human effort to keep the law, and the reason why Christ had to come in order to keep it and to be our perfect sacrifice. It was because we were unable in ourselves to fulfill the righteousness of the law. Only Jesus could do that as God incarnate. Now what makes us think we can impact our salvation in any way? We couldn't save ourselves, but we can "unsave" ourselves? It just doesn't make any sense, especially in light of all the eveidence in scripture that speaks of security. I will be praying for you!

Is this forum a "mimistry" for you. I have been "drawn", I believe, to this site, and seeing your much activity I have to wonder myself if God is calling me to do likewise.
