1 | where did saul go after death? | 1 Sam 28:19 | mommytimesthree | 124885
What did Samuel mean when he said you will be with me, was he referring to 1) being not alive on earth, 2) being in heaven, 3) some other place? I don't understand how it could be heaven, since God was now Saul's enemy.

Hi, mommytimesthree! There are many passages in the Bible that are difficult to digest... as your argument presents: either Samuel is in Heaven or he is simply dead. Yet if he is in Heaven, then how is Saul going to end up in the same place since he has been disobedient to God, and, in essence, has become God's enemy? ...if we read from 1 Samuel 28:8 (as well as 28:11), we will find that Saul's disposition is not that Samuel is in Heaven with God, but that he is in the realm of the dead: And so Saul, disguising himself and changing his clothes, set out accompanied by two men; their visit to the woman took place at night. 'Disclose the future to me', he said, 'by means of a ghost. Conjure up the one I shall name to you.' It is Saul's state of mind that determines where he will end up: Saul and his sons will end up in the realm of the dead--the place where he thinks Samuel was residing. Samuel did not receive authority to reveal anything further than the fact that Saul and his sons would die at the hands of the Philistines. Was Samuel in Heaven or not? As Paul said: now we know only partially, then we will know as we ourselves are known! (1 Corinthians 13:12) God Bless! Angel |
