Does God have our future planned from our birth or do we have a free will to change our future? The question came up last night in our youth meeting, some feel that God knows whether we are going to Heaven or Hell from the begining of our lives, and others believe we have a free will to change our futures by following Gods word and living for him. Could someone direct me to scripture that will back up one theory or the other.Thank you In Gods Love Jim |

I think you are asking two different questions here. First does God know our future? Yes Does God change our future? God is not a puppetmaster we do have free will but God also knows what decisions we will make and incorporates those decisions into His plans. If we step back and take a look at what life is all about it is not about us but rather our service to God. Our decisions don't change the destiny of the earth but they do determine how we serve God. Example God's plan is for a someone to witness to a man named Mike. You are God's first choice but for whatever reason you decide not to. God already knew that and had someone else in place to witness to Mike. That person faithful to his call witnesses to Mike, Mike gets saved and nobody but God knows what took place. However you missed the blessing of telling someone of Christ and seeing them accept salvation. You freely made a decision, but you never know what could have been had you made another choice. In this examply you missed out, perhaps in another case you were used of God and greatly blessed. Psalm 37:23 (NASB) 23 The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. 1 Corinthians 2:10-16 (NASB) 10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 (NASB) 4 Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, 6 who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. |
