In 2 Cor 5:17, Paul states that we become a new creature. When we are in Christ Jesus our Spirit is reborn in the image of God. It is new, free of the sinful nature. I, my Spirit nature, continues to live in the sinful flesh. Throughout Romans, Paul points out the battle betwoeen the flesh and the Spirit. This battle will be an issue until I(my spirit) is seperated from this body(flesh). In Gal 5:16 we are told that as we "Walk by the Spirit, we will not carry out the desire of the flesh." James 5:7-8 is scripture that I return to often. If I find myself being confronted with sin, I know I need to "Submit to God, resist the devil" and I then have the promise that devil will flee from me. As I walk according to the Spirit, I am not obligated to fulfill the desires of the flesh. So, even though the devil will come at us, God has given us a way out and shows us that the devil is not stronger than our God. | ||||||
