Hello all. The reason for my question here is simply to try to get people’s thoughts on this. So here it is: I just found a website that has an “astronomy picture of the day”, and it got me thinking. Our sun has a quite a few planets orbiting it (we’re finding more all the time)and our galaxy is jam-packed full of stars like our sun. Then I see pictures where whole galaxies seem as proliferate as the stars. So here’s the question to ponder. Do you believe that there are other created beings on other planets? I guess my question is, looking at the size of God’s universe, do you believe it likely that there are countless unfallen worlds? Just a question. Colossians 1:20 “…and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” Ephesians 3:10 “…so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.” Let me know what you think. First, how probable is it that there is another habitable planet like the Earth? From what Astrobiologists are saying that the likelihood is not very likely. You would have to find a solar system with a star like the Sun to increase the probability of having a planet like the Earth. Another situation is the position of solar system in the galaxy. Our solar system is located in between the tail that is not so dangerous of a place compared to like the intense place of the center of the galaxy. The Earth is special and was created in that fashion. Much fine tuning went into the Earth to allow for life. Change any of the forces such as the gravitational force by just a fraction of a degree and we would not be able to exist. The Bible is not a scientific book and does not clue us into what God has done in other parts of the universe. I think the reason for the incredible size of the universe is to give us a clue how great God is and how vast he is. Romans 1:20 "From the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly observed in what he made." Notice also the location in the galaxy and clear atmosphere we have for discovery. God wanted us to be able to see how vast and great his creation is. |

Now I don’t want you to take any offense to this, but are you saying that all that universe out there is all for decoration? Not that that’s beyond God. But it just seems to me anyway, that God would be creating millions of inhabited worlds. I don’t really have any scripture to back that up though. Regarding your comment on how probable it is that there’s another planet inhabitable like Earth, probability wouldn’t be an issue where God is concerned. Not that I’m disagreeing with you. Oh well, this may be one of those “Questions for Heaven”. Ocelot |

No offense taken. I don't see it as decoration but for discovery. I believe there will be things discovered looking at astronomy that will be more evidence for a creator. I believe in a time when God's elect will be resurrected with new bodies at Christ's second coming. (The following is speculation and should be taken as opinion that is speculatory in nature.) We will be able to do amazing things such as I don't know like move at the speed of light or even thought. I believe that we may be able to go to the far ends of creation and discover the vastness of God's creation. Revelation talks of the new heaven and earth. I believe that could mean the second law of thermodynamicsis out of effect and that energy and matter that diminshes will be reformed into a condition that doesn't diminshes. We will have an eternity to discover which I think is in our nature. |
