Luke 1:24-26,36 confirms that "Elizabeth was in her 6th month" when the angel appeared to Mary, so John was at least 5 months older than Jesus, since Jesus' conception was still in the future tense when the angel revealed this to Mary (Luke 1:31,35). We don't know at exactly what point the Holy Spirit came upon Mary to conceive Jesus, but it would appear from Elizabeth's greeting in Luke 1:42 that Jesus was already growing in Mary's womb when she arrived at Elizabeth's home.
