1 | When does forgiveness occur? | NT general Archive 1 | Dalprad | 24085
Is it the realization that we are already forgiven that leads us to repent? Or does forgiveness come after our repentance has begun? Or does forgiveness come at the moment we decide we are in need of repentance? It seems this issue divides many churches I've visited. |

The start of the Church was in Acts 2. Peter just preached to the jews and they asked a very important questions after being cut to the heart. They asked what should we do? Peter's reply was REPENT and be IMMERSED FOR the forgiveness of your sins. Many denominations think that baptism is a work and so they say we we are not saved by works they are correct but baptism is not a work but a command just like to repent. If you are drowning and I throw you a life jacket did you save your self or only take what I provided. Christ did all the work we only obey the gospel which is the death burial and resurrection of Christ. To be immersed is were we contact the blood of christ, This is how we obey the death burial and resurrection. Roman 6. If baptism is a work what is repentance?. Remember that the book of Acts is a book of conversions it is the start of the church. The rest of the new testament is talking to Christians. Remember also the prior to Acts 2 the people were living under the old testament law example the thieve on the cross was under the OT and Christ had all authority to forgive sins. 1 Pet 3:21,Gal 3:26 This is were we are clothed with Christ. You must be in Christ to have your sins washed away. To be immersed is to have your sins washed away by the blood of Christ through the death burial and resurection we are now raised a new life Romans 6. Do not wrestle the scriptures to teach false doctrine. Let the bible speak were it speaks and be silent were it is silent. If you are looking for the new testament church that is preached in the bible without all of the man made doctrine I would suggest you check out the Church of Christ. Rom 16:16. Christ died for his church, his body of believers don't you think we would want to go and worship as he and his apostles taught in the scriptures. Christ built his church and we must obey his will. May God bless your search for the Truth. In Christian Love Guy

Hey Guy, It’s nice to see someone on the forum with the same convictions on baptism! So far you are the only one I agree with. I was baptized in April of 95, after a long time of bible study. I am grateful that brother persevered with me or I wouldn’t be here talking to you (unless God had other plans!) I would dare ask what church you are from. Have you ever heard of “Upcyberdown”? It is a website from my church. I am interested in talking some more with you on your doctrine. Send me a line. Kin |

Kin, What is the web site URL for Upcyberdown? Can you place your e-mail address in your profile? I am a member of the Church of Christ.Rom 16:16. I became a member when Christ added me to his Church by obeying his pattern of redemption. Hearing, Believing, Confessing that Christ is the Son of God, Repenting,to be immersed for the remission of my sins, live a Godly life and continue to become more Christ like. To worship him in spirit and truth acording to his pattern (form) taught in the new testament. |

Hey Guy, The address to that site is www.upcyberdown.org I'm not sure what you mean by placing my e-mail address in my profile. Please help me out with that. Thanx. I am a member of the International Church of Christ. It is a branch off from the "mainline" Church of Christ. The two churches have very similar doctrine with the exception of the use of music in worship and the practice of "discipling". I too came to Christ after studying the Bible and seeing my sin, repenting, confessing Jesus as my Lord, being baptized for the forgiveness of my sins and to live for Him and obeying His teachings. I'm bummed that the two churches are divided over those issues. You would think that these things could be resolved for the sake of Christ. Are they issues of salvation? I don't believe so. But we can disscuss these things further. Kin |
