We can also note that part of the "curse" placed on Eve as result of her sin was that the pain of child-bearing would "increase" ("greatly multiply" in Gen 3:16 (KJV))--how could the pain "increase" if she had never given birth before? | ||||||

Greetings Dave, I do not believe that this verse should be interpreted as saying that Eve gave birth to other children prior to Cain. I interpret this verse as saying (God speaking), "The pain that I had originally intended for women to experience during child bearing will increase.." I do not believe that one can immediately assume that Eve had any prior children by reading this verse. I believe that the Lord had in mind His punishment set for Eve, if she should indeed sin, and this would be the increase of her birth pains. Cain was the first child born to Adam and Eve. Blessings to you, Nolan |
