EdB: I have a Bible by Foundation Publications and it is a beauty. It's the NASB Updated Edition Side-Column Reference Bible. It's the single-column text with all the translators notes. I had one exactly like it in the early 70s. The exact same edition and binding. The only difference is the first one was the original NASB and this one is the Updated edition. The NASB has been my translation of choice for 30 years. The most used, well-worn Bible I have is the NASB Ryrie Study Bible. I have the new Ryrie in the Updated NASB in a fine leather binding. But I never use it. I can't wean myself away from the Ryrie I used for so many years. By the way, Cambridge does have a website for Bible sales (http://uk.cambridge.org/bibles/). I have an Oxford KJV in hand-grained Morocco leather. But someday I want to get a leather-bound Cambridge King James Version Bible. I remember when you could buy one for 20 or 25 dollars (in the early 1970s). Now of course the prices start at around 100. Talk to Hank sometime about finely bound Bibles. He is very knowledgeable on the subject. For the past 5 years or so the Bible I use every day is the MacArthur Study Bible. It contains more useful information than any Bible I've ever seen. It's like having a one-volume Bible commentary with the Bible text included. Good to hear from you, Ed. Grace to you, kalos |

Kalos I too have the side column NASB and I had an older one from the 70's that I have marked so much I would really hurt if I lost it. I also use the MacArthur Studyt Bible in fact it is sitting in front of me on this desk. See all great minds think alike! :-) I will have to get with Hank acquire some of his Bible knowledge. I wish Oxford or Cambridge would come out with a NASB like the KJV I saw. The bible had bound in it about 50 or more pages for notes. It was also of very high quality. the In touch Bible I was talking about is bound by what they call Top grain leather which is a step up from genunine leather and so near Moroccan leather I couldn't tell the difference. It is glove soft. EdB |

Well gentleman I solved my problem. I returned the Thompson NASB (1977) and purchased an updated NASB wide margin side column reference edition (Foundation Publications) in a beautiful calfskin edition. The print is much better suited to my aging eyes and it's the softest, most beautiful, best constructed bible I've ever owned. I'm looking foward to decades of use. Thanks for your feedback. | ||||||

Tom I envy you, but I repent! :-). I have the same Bible in Genuine leather and love it. The calfskin I think is about the same as the one Foundation did for "In Touch Ministry". It is so soft and sets so nice in the hand, it feels just so right! I would probably never put it down. Just holding and reading it has to be a pleasure. Be careful around water. I have the genuine leather edition and got caught in a sprinkle. The primary purpose of the gold embossing on the edges of a Bible is to protect the pages from moisture. On Lockman Foundation Bibles it doesn’t work well. When a few drops of water hit my Bible instead of the gold embossing doing its job and protecting the pages, it simply washed off. Almost like cheap paint. I now have a Bible with a dozen white spots on the side. It looks funny but still works fine :-) I have many other Bibles and have spilt water and yes even had them in the rain and never have I had this problem. I have just now taken my Thompson Bible and a little water and tried to rub off some to the gold embossing and can’t. I E-mailed Lockman Foundation about the warranty and they said since it was caused by rain it wasn't covered. I disagree but I'm now wiser, I think little of their gold embossing. Do not let water come within fifteen feet of your new Bible :-) EdB |
