Ray, I think you're right -- the KJV has been around for nearly four centuries and there has been more time to count words! And people a few generations ago didn't have TV and the Web, so they counted words. I have an old edition of the King James with a section in the back of it that gives all sorts of curious facts about the Bible: number of words, verses, chapters, longest and shortest verse, middle verse, etc. Whoever compiled this vast reservoir of useless information must have spent an enormous amount of time on it. I've often reflected that the Bible has many words of wisdom that we can all use to make our lives count, but we shall probably never learn them by merely counting the words! --Hank | ||||||
