Dear Brother Doc, I owe you my note of conference on Revelation presented remarkably by a local theologian Dr Simon Chau. In respond to your quote from Rev.K DeYoung, Dr. Chau presented pretty much the same idea on the number of 144,000. Revelations is full of symbolic language (and so much tied with the OT) which targeted to the intended readers (the 1st century Christians)and they (unlike us - those modern people) would not have the problem to understand what John was talking. Dr. Chau said that if we have not read the OT or any idea of the OT, there is no way that we could understand Revelation properly. We also have to put our foot into the intended readers' shoes. Sadly that nowadays, OT is so much neglected on the pulpit that many Christians lack the proper understanding of the Bible as a whole. Shalom Azure |

Dear Sister Azure, Thank you for your note. It was particularly interesting to me as I had only just read the following statement by Charles H. Spurgeon. No doubt it is expressing the same idea as Dr. Chau. "I am persuaded that most of the mistakes which men make concerning the doctrines of Scripture are based upon fundamental errors with regard to the covenants of law and of grace." In the same sermon, Spurgeon went on to say, and so ought we, "May God grant us now the power to instruct, and you the grace to receive instruction on this vital subject." Have a blessed Resurrection Day! In Him, Doc |
