Dear Cate, Greetings in Jesus' name! According to the New Ungers Bible Dictionary: Jezebel was a woman in whom were united the sternest and fiercest qualities inherent in the Phoenician people. The wild license of her life and the magical fascination of her arts and of her character were known throughout the nation (2 Kings 9:22). Long afterward her name lived as the byword for all that was detestable. Blessings, Cate- Also note that Ahab gave up his authority of being the leader to Jezebel. In many marriages of today, the Jezebel spirit is alive and strong, with the woman doing and using everything in her power to take over the male leadership role. This is totally going against the will of God, as Jezebel did then. Debbie |
