1 | What Does 666 Mean? | Rev 13:18 | patawa | 152992 | ||
Hi, I think it is important to also not rule out the posibility of the six hundred and sixty-six identifying a man in the same time period as the writing of the book. The people that take a early dating of Revelation may take the interpretation that the number represents the name of a person in that time period. Whether Nero or some other person of that time. The verse says "Let him who has understanding calculate". So it is possible to use gemotria which is the science of ascribing numberical values to the letters of a word to come up with a name that has the value of six hundred sixty-six. |

Hi patawa, I think Mark is on track here. I don't know what "gemotria" is, never heard of it. Why can't we just take the literal meaning of the text? That seems much simpler and is probably more in-line with Biblical interpretation principles. Would the writer (John) have had this in mind? Trying to "guess" what 666 (or any verse) says by using some sort of mathematical analysis seems a bit of a stretch. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
