Hi Doc, I found the following website http://www.nsbible.org/pastor_not_founder.htm which begins with.... PASTOR RUSSELL NOT THE FOUNDER OF "JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES" Contrary to some publicity made concerning "Jehovah's Witnesses," Pastor Russell is not the founder of this religious group. He has never associated with "Jehovah's Witnesses" nor did he ever claim the name. Pastor Charles T. Russell died in 1916. The "Jehovah's Witnesses" came into existence later. Associating Pastor Russell with "Jehovah's Witnesses" leaves the decidedly mistaken view that their teachings and beliefs are alike. Such is not the case. After speaking of differences in beliefs between the two, the article ends with... From these facts it can be seen that Pastor Charles T. Russell was neither in principle nor in spirit, the founder of "Jehovah's Witnesses." Just thought you may want to know. Bows44 |

Hi Bows, According to "The Kingdom of the Cults" in chapter 4 on the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the opposite is stated. Dr. Walter Martin writes, "Charles Taze Russell was the founder of what is now Jehovah's Witnesses and the energetic administator that brought about its far-flung organization. The name Jehovah's Witnesses, incidentally, was taken at Columbus Ohio, in 1931, to differentiate between the Watchtower and the true followers of Russell..." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Forum: I should have checked the site first! However, it is called North Seattle Bible Students- actually just north of me. I've never heard of them, but in reading their rather weak defense against Russell, it appears they are more or less a splinter-group or an offshoot of the JW's. I wouldn't put much credibilty in their version of facts:-( Thanks for the reference though. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
