1 | what is trinty ? | 1 John 5:7 | Kepha | 157450 | ||
Trinity is an understanding of God as 'three-in-one', that attempts to explain how God can be Father Son and Holy Spirit acting separately at times, yet be one God at the same time. This concept and the name Trinity come from the 2nd. century, when a man named Marcion, a very intelligent fellow, brought into the adolescent body of believers the name Trinity, from Greek mythology. This god indeed was a three-in-one god,and the concept suited his (Marcion's) theology and so he used it to explain God. This conflicts with Deuteronomy 6:4-6 where YHVH declares who He is, that He is One, and there are many other Scriptures that help describe and explain just how God is One, yet identified as three distinct personalities. Consider Him this way: take yourself as an example... if you are married you have a distinct relationship with your partner. If you have children you have a distinct relationship with children. If you have siblings, you have a distinct relationship with siblings. Now, you are just ONE person, yet you can enjoy and have happening these three distinct relationships at one time, in the same room, at the same time. Your wife, children and siblings will see you distinctly in the relationship in which you interact with them, yet you are ONE person. YHVH or God comes to you and me in all three relationships at the same time, distinct yet as ONE God, and in this we can't totally understand, or fathom the depth....because we are finite in this life and He is eternally infinite, able to transcend all created concepts. Yet, He has given us enough in Scripture to believe, and receive Salvation, or Purity. Hope this helps... |

Hi, Kepha... I'm sorry, but what you have presented here is an error known as Modalism. "We worship one God in trinity and trinity in unity, neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the Substance." --The Athanasian Creed "There be three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one true, eternal God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory; although distinguished by their personal properties." --Westminster Larger Catechism "To know this God, who both condescends to share all that we are and makes us share in all that He is in Jesus Christ, is to be lifted up in His Spirit to share in God’s own self-knowing and self-loving until we are enabled to apprehend Him in some real measure in Himself beyond anything that we are capable of in ourselves. It is to be lifted out of ourselves, as it were, into God, until we know Him and love Him and enjoy Him in His eternal Reality as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in such a way that the Trinity enters into the fundamental fabric of our thinking of Him and constitutes the basic grammar of our worship and knowledge of the One God." --Thomas F. Torrance For an excellent outline for the Biblical support for the doctrine of the Trinity, please see: http://www.apologetics.com//articles/doctrinal_apologetics/bowman-trinity.html In Him, Doc |
