After searching Sabbath and reading this post: Acts 2:1 Note Lev 23:15 stjohn Tue 11/3/09, 10:41am 21911 If Jesus said: Matthew 5:36-38. "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. And John teaches: 1John 5:3. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, And God commands: Exodus 20: 8-11. 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. And in Hebrews, the inspired, word says: Hebrews 4: 9-11. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. And Jesus confirms the Sabbath has significance in the future when he says: Matthew 24:20. 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. Why have all almost all the Church doctrine’s bowed to society’s corrosive influence and ignored the clear scriptures and changed what was written in stone by the finger of God? Did not Jesus warn us: Matthew 15:3-9. 3Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God said, 'Honor your father and mother'[a] and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.'[b] 5But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6he is not to 'honor his father[c]' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: 8" 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'[d]" Why do we ignore clear scripture and accept assumptions about other scripture as facts in order to validate custom? |

findrichard, Welcome to the forum. First of all a couple of scriptures. 2 Iim 2:15 and 2 Pt 1:20,21. These are bedrock scriptures when it comes to how we handle God's Word. People take things out of context, twist scripture to make it say whatever they want to say and unfortunately this goes on everyday. As 2 Timothy says, we gotta accurately handle God's Word. Thank you for the kind welcome lionheart. I hope to find some enlightened discussion on this site. It seems to get more activity than other sites I have visited. You hit the nail on the head with 2 Peter 1:20. I have found, generally speaking, that the more explanation one attaches to scripture the further from the truth they tend to wander in their explanation. Thank God that God's Word speaks quite plainly for itself. | ||||||
