1 | Where is Dan? | Josh 19:40 | JonnyRay49423 | 2536
We are not to take Rev.7 literally. What we have described in Rev.7 is a spiritual picture of the redeemed Church. In Rev.8 we have the seventh seal broken pointing to the final judgement. God seals the 144,000 meaning the elect will be spared the Day of Judgement. Dan is not listed because the purpose of the chapter is not to set forth the twelve tribes of Israel as set forth in the OT. The writer of Rev. is giving us a heavenly picture of the Church.
2 | So are you saying | Josh 19:40 | TerryM | 2570
So are you saying that it was an oversight that that John left Dan out of the listing? That those sealed are any 144,000? That John was not referring literally to the tribes of Israel but just those who believe in Him? If so, then why list any tribe at all it is just "heavenly picture if the Church"? Dont' get me wrong. I am not questioning the validity of your answer. I am just not throughly convinced that it is as simple as that. Why do people always say not to take Revelation literally? How do we know what to take literally and what not to take literally? Am I to believe that those who reject God will be consumed in a "lake of fire", that the priests of God and Christ "shall reign with him 1000 years", that no man will be able to buy or sell unless he has "the mark or the name of the beast", but not that the tribe of Dan be included among the "sealed servants of our God"? |

I know there are Christians out there who want to interpret the The Revelation of Jesus Christ literally-so when we come to Rev.7 this must be a real picture of the OT tribes of Israel in heaven with the tribe of Dan missing-to me this interpretation would not make sense-what we find in Revelation are visions. I do believe in the doctrine of eternal punishment-it is a literal lake of fire? That I do not know? I do not see a literal thousand reign of Christ on the earth taught in the Bible. I do not see the mark of the beast to be something visible to the naked eye. Once again what we have here are two different approaches to how one interprets Scripture. |
