1 | Pastoral Authority | Heb 13:17 | soldout | 55600
Our church is currently struggling with pastoral authority. We need scriptural guidance to lead us in how to settle this confusion. Some feel they don't have the right to challenge "God's Man" while others want to hold the pastor accountable when controveries arise.

Scripture ... Mat 20:25-27; Act 17:11; Heb 13:17; Jam 3:1; 1Jn 4:1; 3Jn 1:9-10 Soldout, greetings and welcome to the forum. Hebrews 13:17 has five other strings. See what others have said. Your church's constitution (and type of rule: pastor, elder, congregation) should give guidelines ... hopefully based on the Bible. Hebrews 13:17 doesn't mean there is dictator rule, supported elsewhere (3Jn 1:9-10). He needs to be a servant-leader (Mat 20:25-27). He is accountable to God and has a stricter judgment (Jam 3:1). If he says anything that is not Biblical, he should be challenged (Act 17:11, 1Jn 4:1). Hope this helps, Searcher |
