1 | Memorize the Bible? | Deut 6:6 | Lee Delbridge | 3827
I think that Scripture memorization is the best and quickest way to gain a working knowledge of the Bible. Deut. 6:6-7; John 15:7; Matthew 4:1-11 as well as many other Scriptures teach that we should memorize Scripture. I memorize by topics because it is the way I use the verses. Some of the first verses to memorize are I John 5:11-13; I Corinthians 10:13; Philippians 4:6-7; Romans 8:28. Scripture memorization is not easy, but IT IS WORTH IT. Regular review of your memorized verses can be a spiritual daily revival. I use the New American Standard Bible for my memory work because it is the most accurate English translation available.
2 | Memorize the Bible? | Deut 6:6 | mechfp | 5590
Whenever I have sought to memorize passages of scripture they have always been verses that speak to me personally. I have a method that works well over the years. I start by reading the verse several times over. Then I try to recite it without looking at the verse. It may be necessary to "peek" at the verse to help you along. Once you can recite the passage without looking for help then begin writing it down. If you again have to peek that is OK. Once you can write it down by memory then stick that in your pocket and review it thru the day, trying as much as possible not to look at the verse. How long it may take you to "memorize" the passage I cannot say. Continue to process until you "have it down". You will also need to review daily for a while until you have burned it into your mind. Do not neglect the work of the Holy Spirit in this process. God is the one who promised to recall all things to rememberance through His Spirit. |
