Greetings Mouse, 1 Thess. 5:17 tells us to "pray without ceasing" while 1 Cor. 5:5 speaks of Paul deciding to expel a sinful man from the church, putting him out into the devil's territory where Satan would be allowed to bring affliction upon the man, so that he would be moved to repentance. However, there is not a contradiction between the spirit of prayer and the spirit of discipline, since church discipline should always be intended to restore a person back into fellowship once they have recognized and repented of their sin. However, if a person does need to be expelled or separated for a time from the body as a whole, then we are to continue in prayer for them (2 Cor. 2:5-11), so that they may be restored to the fellowship after repentance. Blessings to you, Makarios |
