1 | If any man destroys the temple | 1 Cor 3:16 | New Creature | 55455 | ||
Makarios - thanks for the commentary. The part that makes it difficult to understand is in verse 17 where it says - "If any man (singular) defile the temple of God, him (not them) shall God destroy; So can one person defile the temple to which point God must destroy that one individual? |

Greetings New Creature, That is an interesting question. I suppose that it could be possible for one person to defile (and eventually split) and cause the demise of a church, and the consequences of being a part of such a severe tragedy would be sinister indeed. Paul is definitely giving the Corinthians a warning, if not admonishing them to straighten up and clean up their act. And we could apply the same principle to the present day church as well. We must clean up our act and do what we are supposed to do, or God will hold us accountable. And what that entails (judgment), no one could answer but the Lord Himself. But seeing the death of a church is in itself too heavy and too terrible of tragedy to endure. Blessings to you, Makarios |
