2 | WHy four gospels not one? | 1 Cor 15:3 | Emmaus | 95358 | ||
Owl 90, As others have pointed out, there is in the largest sense only one Gospel, which the Apostles were commissioned to preach by Jesus (Matt 28:16-20; Mark 1:1). This they did orally for years before some of their teachings were recorded in written form. The four Gospels found in the Bible are those which the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, (John 16:13) recognized and affirmed as being of Apostolic origin and in conformity with the Gospel preached and handed down by the Apostles (1 Cor 11:2; 2 Thess 2:15; 2 tim 2;2; 1 cor 15:1-2). Other writings claiming to be "Gospels' were rejected for a variety of reasonas, but mostly based on the criteria that they were not in corformity with the Apostolic teaching and could not be traced to the Apostles or "Apostolic men" such as Luke and Mark who were companions to Apostles, Paul and Peter respectively, despite some false claims to apostolic origins. Emmaus, I like this string of pearls. Great answer. How did you put it together? Is there a topical source? Do you know these scriptures by heart? (The Navigators refer to 2 Tim 2.2 as "The 2-2-2 priciple, by the way). Colin |

Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and [for] all the house of Israel his companions: And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand. And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou [meanest] by these? Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which [is] in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, [even] with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand. And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes." This is a reference to the Book of Mormon and the Bible being companion books, complimenting each other. This is under the Joseph Smith reference because the two go hand in hand. The Book of Mormon is a true volume of scripture, prophesied in the Bible, and brought forth by God. Therefore, Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God. |

gbt1997oct alias Gbennet I hope any one that sees the Mormon commercials on TV thinks of your actions here on the forum as a real example of Mormonism rather than what the TV tries to portray. Thanks for showing the world how a true Mormon behaves. As Jesus said you will know them by their works. EdB |
