1 | What of Paul | 1 Cor 1:1 | BradK | 76729 | ||
Hello Julie and welcome to the Forum. Your question is a good one, and one that time will only allow me to give a brief response:-) You said you call yourself a Christian? Does that mean that you have placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? Along with that, I'd ask if you trust the Bible as the Word of God? ( John 17:17) Paul was "called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God" (1 Cor. 1:1) He was the apostle to the gentiles, Romans 11:13. As I believe in the unity of scripture, I'd challenge the assertion that Paul "is a false teacher" based upon his inspired authorship of 13(14 if we include Hebrews) of the 26 NT books. To learn something of Paul from a biblical basis, I might encourage you to read Acts 9-28, and at least the opening chapter of each of his epistles (Romans through Philemon). As to him having never met the Lord Jesus, Paul claims he "received it (the gospel) through a revelation of Jesus Christ" ( cf Gal. 1:11-18) Other helpful references could include Eastons' Bible Dictionary. Pauls' own testimony regarding Christ speaks volumes! "For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake."(2 Cor. 4:5) "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." ( 1 Cor.2:2) I hope this helps, Speaking The Truth In Love, BradK |

I am a Christian and I have placed my faith in Jesus. If He were not in my heart, I would not study to try to understand and know more about Him. I believe the bible is the word. I realize it is written and interpreted in various different versions...some containing different books than others...and some books that aren't in any at all but maybe should be...BUT I don't reject it. |

Hi Julie! Welcome to the Forum. Do read Tim Moran's excellent post by putting 48438 into the quick search field. One thing that I would remind you about is 2 Peter 1:21 which says, "no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." Paul is just one of many men who God used to bring His Word to the world. He is no different from Isaiah or Moses or Luke or John. All of these men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write what God wants us to know. Have you ever heard the expression, "Don't shoot the messenger?" Paul is just a messenger of the Gospel - he is not the Author! I am reminded to the words of God to Samuel when the people rejected his divinely appointed leadership in favor of an earthly king. God said, "It is not you they are rejecting; it is Me!" (1 Sam 8:7) Could this be the case with those who reject the teachings of God through the Apostle Paul? Just something to consider. I hope that you will continue to seek God through His Word! Blessings, mommapbs |
