You may already understand this, but if you do not I will take the time to explain that this Forum is for the purpose of posting Questions and receiving answers supported by scripture on what the Bible says. Therefore there would be several follow up questions I would ask before I would understand your question. Do you mean what was the Old Testament Jewish Law given by God to Israel concerning the succession of the Levitical Priesthood? Or how did God choose Judges in the OT before there were Kings. Or what was the law of birthright as it relates to the Hebrews. Or what is God's Plan for appointing Pastors in local New Testament Churches? If you want to know how a leader is appointed today in a New Testament Church, the bible declares that God Calls men to the ministry of the Word of God. You can look at almost every first verse or first few passages of Pauls Letters and see him declare this fact. There are many scriptures on how men are called. I will some scriptures after this explanation. How God Chooses a Pastor of a church after one pastor goes on to be with the Lord, or is called to do another work, is first and formost a call of God on anothe man's life who through prayer knows that is God's Will for them, then they will also have gifts of the Holy Spirit that demonstrate they are called, in some congregations they vote for the next pastor, but they are taught to vote only on those that qualify. There is no such thing in the Christian church of a man lording it over a flock and then when he passes giving the rulership to his son. There is no such thing as the son of the pastor Inheriting the pastorship by "birth right". If you are hearing of such a teaching in the church today I would call that a cult and run for my life. If that is the case that church is built by man and not by God. A true church will continue growing into the image of Christ whether the pastor that started it moves on or not, passing the leadership to the biological son might occur if the son is called by God and gifted by God to pastor, and always a holy life is required. The fact that a son of a pastor takes over after the senior pastor is gone, is more a testimony of the son being raised up in an environment to heed the call to ministry when it came. There is no such thing in the christian church of inheriting a call of God. You are called by God not as a result of who your father was but simply because God calls and gifts you for that purpose. Some sons of pastors are not called and some pastors try to fit their sons in that mold, it makes life miserable for the son and an embarrasment to the pastor. May God Bless You as You Study His Word. Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: |
